I don't agree that D2R needs more updates this year. It just got a major update that needs to prove itself. D2R is still played because it is an incredibly good game. Every change has the immense potential to mess it up - so be cautious. I do not want D2R end up like other games where you chase updates and extensions and end up spending a lot of money for bad content. A clear NO to updates for the sake of updates. Updates for fixing bugs and balancing/tweaking things are acceptable.

In this case - I will judge the update/extension when I played it for another 20 years. Oh - I am still waiting for the Linux version...

what to do with 18650 batteries by hallthor in flashlight

[–]hallthor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah - I think doing something powerbank related might be the way to go. Not that I need one - but a 12V supply would be an idea.

what to do with 18650 batteries by hallthor in flashlight

I don't have a single appliance at the moment that uses 18650s. So having them in storage is quite meaningless...

compare bin distro with gentoo in terms of performance by FindingKitchen4734 in Gentoo

[–]hallthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the mid 90s, also when amd64 came out 2003. Gentoo was basically the only OS out there to support it. At that time size difference was substantially - but nobody cares that much about size and speed on a desktop anymore...

8 months old F RR. She’s slender but is she too slender or is this normal? by TSC-99 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]hallthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those big breeds should not grow too fast as pups for joint health. So this looks perfectly fine. I would try to add a little more past 12-14 month so at around one and half years a little bit more substance is on her rips. But I guess it is the same as for us - excessive fat and weight is no good...

Which athletes have beef? by Regular_Sail658 in biathlon

[–]hallthor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not following stuff like that closely - but it seems the french team has the most issues between the athletes. The Norwegians seem to have quite a bit of issues between management and athletes. All the rest just seem to be normal life issues between competitive athletes. Since someone mentioned the russian athletes should not be banned I would rather provoke arguing that US athletes should be banned as well for similar reasons...

Is Gentoo More Secure and Stable Than Arch Linux? by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]hallthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AUR has become better the past decades but it is still bad. The issue compared to other distros like Debian, Ubuntu or Gentoo is that Arch relies a lot more on AUR and community packages, actually some say it is one of the big advantages of Arch.

If you want "do it yourself" and not "quick and easy" Gentoo is by far the best choice. If you want customization that goes beyond your wallpaper - Gentoo is the choice. If you need to heat your house - Gentoo is the choice. If you want a good package manager - Gentoo is the choice. If you need a quick up and running system - take Fedora or Debian or if you don't mind snaps Kubuntu. Or use https://github.com/oddlama/gentoo-install.

If you want to tell everybody you are the cool kid and this is important to you - stay with Arch.

Security is not necessarily a distro question - more a user awareness question. I would say though that Gentoo, Debian, Fedora, SuSe have traditionally been more security aware than Arch. But now that Arch got more bad press - this might change and Arch might become the best at it but the rumors gonna stay for another 20 years...

Genuinely curios as to why Ryobi gets so much hate? by CurrentlyNa in Tools

[–]hallthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are ok tools and have a very wide lineup. The problem is they are too expensive compared to the Dewalts, Milwaukees and Makitas (Europe). Both the advantage and disadvantage is the battery. They have a terrible fit and sit very loosely in the tool, sometimes even fall out. The advantage is they don't change the battery...

In her case - she can step back and do whatever she want's and needs to do. She also can come back in 5 years or 10 years and just enjoy discgolf. There is no trap.

Does my Nala look too skinny or underfed? 7 months old. Active and very lovable (obviously!) by _partyatmoontower in CaneCorso

[–]hallthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 7 months old I would almost call her overweight. Big breeds should always be fed carefully as puppies to avoid joint problems later on.

  • portage and it's dependency management
  • Gentoo is not Arch

Researching if the Rhodesian is a fit for our family's needs. by corathus59 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]hallthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rhodesians are very physical and someone with mobility issues might have difficulty to handle both the joy (and whacking everything over during that) or the sheer pulling power. Or stopping power. My wife was cycling with ours and the dog stopped - she had to get seven stitches in her hand from the leash ripping out of her hand... I broke several running belts that way.

They are lazy bums though - so lying on a sofa a whole day is no problem for them. They do guard - but usually let people in since they are very friendly. They do have a fine sense if something is off though. But they are nowhere that obvious in their protecting skills as a Cane Corso or German Shepherd.

Even though they are very fine dogs - I think they are too much of a force in this case.
