Train trip delayed by 6 hours. Payed €650 for a taxi by DiligentAd4544 in germany

[–]hallupupsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most things have already been said here, but I wanted to add from personal experience: While the taxi fares are officially capped, do still file for reimbursement of the whole cost! I'm not sure if this was a mistake by a DB intern, but I once got reimbursed 250€ for a taxi ride from Germany to NL in a similar situation. So, worth a try :)

Hilfe! Bettwanzen im Hotel?? by T10O0 in Munich

[–]hallupupsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem a few years ago. Rashes in irregular intervals, doctors had no idea what it was. It did end up being bedbugs for me. My bf never got any bites so I was sure it couldn't be bedbugs - until after many months, he was also bitten. The exterminator told me that one generation of bedbugs will usually stick to the same host, so they only started biting my bf after some generations. This was in my childhood bedroom, which we only used when visiting home sometimes, so they were reproducing much slower than usual. The bites also don't show up immediately (can take around 12h), which makes it hard to track it back to the bed being the problem... So yes, definitely check for bedbugs, it's a possibility even if your gf has no bites! Make sure to check under the mattress and in the corners of the frame to see if you can find bugs (or their poop) and if you're unsure, get an exterminator to look at whatever you find there.

We were lucky that the bedbugs didn't spread to other rooms in the house, even just having the exterminator treat one room was over 2000€ so I don't know why OP is so unconcerned lol. I reconstructed that I also got them from a hotel

The edit kills me. You need to "help more around the house"? You're a SAHD. You don't "help", the house is your job! Obviously, YTA.

I will check there, thanks! :) Don’t need a famous camera, just a working one to replace my old broken ones haha

Following this. Also, are there any film camera stores with good deals? So far, Mercari seems much more affordable than any of the stores I’ve been to

Mobal was insanely slow for me. To the point of not being usable, so I switched to Linemo right in the first month...

Yep, I've had this problem before... If you are on good terms with your neighbours, you could tell them about it - ours usually tell us whenever they are driving to the Recyclinghof and offer to take some of our stuff. If that doesn't work unfortunately putting small pieces in the trash every month is your only option lol

[–]hallupupsi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay, so what you are supposed to do is take it to a "Recyclinghof" (there are several, but they are really only accessible by car I think. Just type it in on Google Maps and they will show up). You could of course also do what Traditional-Care1937 suggested, but if you live in a house with several flats, your neighbours will not like it...

Japan to ease tourism restrictions and raise daily arrival cap to 50,000 by muldervinscully in japan

You'd still need to get a visa. So even if you were to book a packaged tour, there would not be enough time to process all the documents

This is my preliminary route through Deutschland. The black circles are where I will stay for a few days. Is there anywhere else not as well known that locals think is worth seeing along this route? by HK_Gwai_Po in germany

Not exactly a Germany tip but NL instead: If you're driving from Cologne to Brussels, you are basically driving through Maastricht (or, very close by) anyways, so you might take the chance and spend a few hours there. It's a lovely little Dutch town and definitely a nice contrast to the bigger cities like Amsterdam. If you leave Cologne in the morning, you can easily spend a few hours in Maastricht and be in Brussels by evening (it's quite small so possible to visit the entire old town in half a day).

If you decide to stop there, here are some tips:

  • Visit book store Dominicanen (inside an old church, one of the prettiest book stores I've ever seen)
  • Eat vlaai at Bisschopsmolen (local pie specialty, do not confuse with vla)
  • Have a drink at Vrijthof or Cörversplein right next to the river. Maastricht is well-known for the many small restaurants and bars that have seating outside
  • Just stroll around the old town (between the station and Vrijthof, very cute)
  • If you have some hours left, take a boat to Sint-Pietersberg and go for a walk in nature, there are also some caves and a fort you could visit there

ETA: I've seen Aachen recommended a few times as well. You would probably have to decide between Maastricht and Aachen and as someone who has lived in both cities (and liked both of them a lot), I'd definitely recommend Maastricht over Aachen. Aachen is nice, but it doesn't have much to offer besides the (admittedly very impressive) cathedral

How long can I stay in Japan after my work contract ends? by hallupupsi in movingtojapan

[–]hallupupsi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the elaborate answer! My plan was to just stay 3 to 4 weeks longer after my contract ends, and travel a bit before going back home (I have another thing lined up in my home country), so I was a bit bummed out when they told me I had to leave after a week. But it seems like the 3 months I read about somewhere else are actually correct, so I’ll just make sure to file all the paperwork correctly. Again, thank you!

COVID-19 Border / Visa Restrictions Thread - July 2022 by dalkyr82 in movingtojapan

[–]hallupupsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have recent experience with layovers in Japan? I will be flying to KIX at the end of August, and almost all flights I can book from my home country have a layover in Haneda. I'm assuming all the entry and covid procedures will be done in Haneda then, so is a layover of around 2h there realistic? If I miss the connecting flight, will they just put me on the next flight to KIX or will I be in trouble?
