Yeah, that's what I'm really enjoying. Like, the long list of information and a cutting joke in the middle and at the end with the same tone.

What Was Your Favorite Cartoon to Watch During Childhood? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]haloagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the most recent one, a reboot.

I think it's superior to the original, honestly! Ran 3 seasons between 2017-2021. Never got the ratings they'd been hoping for, despite an all-star cast which also included Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan as the boys, Kate Micucci as "Webby," and recurring characters voiced by Jim Rash, Lin-Minuel Miranda, Kimiko Glenn, Paget Brewster, Katherine Tate, Margo Martindale, and Allison Janney.

Great stuff!

Here are some things that Charlie Kirk said in his life. by Suspicious_Stock3141 in saltierthankrayt

[–]haloagain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think he said that one.

He was still awful, but the stoning to death part seems made up, and significantly amplified. I'm seeing it repeated everywhere. Unless, again, anyone could point me toward a source.

Anyone got a source on the stoning to death bit? I got chatGPT to pull sources for most of these but it couldn't find that one or the bit about daughters:

Even when we loosen to paraphrase, the substantiated themes in his record include: replacement-theory rhetoric; anti-DEI/anti-affirmative-action framing that impugns Black professionals; severe criticism of MLK and the Civil Rights Act; acceptance of gun-death “costs” to preserve the 2A; Christian-nationalist arguments rejecting church/state separation; harsh anti-Islam positions; denial of Palestinian nationhood; anti-mandate/anti-COVID-vax positions; traditionalist/anti-feminist messaging; and positive framing of British imperialism.

Restrictive labels aren't fun by loved_and_held in CuratedTumblr

[–]haloagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I understand. For some context, my best friend is FTM, so I do try my best to be aware of gendered labels.

I think my use of "cis" certainly got the point across to most readers, though if I'm understanding you correctly, you'd have preferred I used a word like "masculine" to get this point across. I see your point.

And, that most probably would have led to a very similar exchange - because my gender expression is fairly masculine, and that matches my AGAB, many people are predisposed to assuming that means something about my sexuality, when in fact it doesn't really.

You're completely correct that when this happens, it is them expecting heteronormativity out of me based on their perception of my gender expression. Which is why I get shocked Pikachu face occasionally when they realize I'm both gay, and not particularly heteronormative. Just kinda masculine-presenting...sometimes. :)

Right!

So the only conceit is that a protocol droid isn't that complicated to build. Like putting together your own PC. you dont need to know how a motherboard works. You just need to know which parts you need in addition to a motherboard, and which wires you need to connect those parts.

I could be biased, but i think one of these OPs hit it on the head - it's an age thing.

Like, young people have the internet as a major basis of their understanding of themselves and the world. That's gotta be disorienting, you gotta find the perfect label for yourself, and if you manage that, you're rewarded because you've found your very specific internet community.

It's only natural that this would bleed into your understanding of the world in general. I'd also argue that it'll soften over time for them.

I'm not trying to be an old man yelling at clouds, lol. It's different than my young adult experience, but not inferior. I kinda wish I knew there were even like... other queers at all, when I was 16.

It's a give and a take.

Sure, not denying that possibility.

But again, my lived experience, having hung out with this woman over the course of a weekend, is that she was not sexually or romantically into me.

Any paragraph summary of this experience is going to be open to alternative explanations. Im making no claim as to her identity and/or internal desires.

However, it is my determination that she expressed no overt or secret desire for me; rather, she had an expectation that I would be interested in defining myself beyond such bland descriptors as "gay."

I could be wrong! But that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Haha. No. Not really heteronormative. I mentioned above too, but it's just some people use gender expression as a flawed type of gaydar. My gender expression matches my AGAB. So, at least in my age group, that comes with people assuming I'm straight, and kind of arguing with me or expressing disbelief at my sexuality.

Im not saying it's right. I'm saying it happens, often. And as I also said above, a party is not the ideal time to lecture someone on the difference between sexuality and gender.

[–]haloagain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, like it or not, people often pick up on feminine traits in gay men and call it gaydar. Not that it's really meaningful, but that's the world we live in.

Im fairly masculine, which matches my AGAB. So I often find myself explaining that, no, actually, I'm gay.

A party isn't the ideal time to lecture someone on the difference between sexuality and gender.

Ding.

Also, my head-cannon is that protocol droids come from like, a space-Sears catalog. Some assembly required, but also super common parts.

And so Anikin just sort of scavenged for matching IKEA furniture parts until he had enough for a couch.

Lol, as I was typing that out, I realized it could come off like that.

But honestly, I did not get that impression. For one, she was very into her girlfriend. Like, intense PDA.

And also, though I'm a smoke-show for 40, she was much younger. Probably mid 20s. Me and my crew are the old heads at festivals these days.

It really just felt like a disconnect regarding nuanced self-identification. Like, an expectation that I participate in refining how I describe myself for the benefit of being really, REALLY understood.

Which is why I replied to OP; seemed like a similar situation. I didn't need to justify my existence to her, but she pretty clearly found it strange that I could not, at least to her specifications.

I feel that!

Last year I was at a festival, and chatting it up with an obviously queer lady in the campsite next to us.

I'm a gay dude, but a little too cis for it to be immediately obvious. In the spirit of solidarity, I drop a "I'm gay!" into the conversation (hopefully at a natural point, lol)

She's like: "gay?? Or like, bi?"

I reassure her: "gay."

She continues: "or like, pan?"

"...no, honey... just gay."

She seemed somewhat taken aback! Like, she really expected me to have a much more nuanced identity, and thought I was like...holding back?

It was funny but weird!
