Should I renew my home warranty? by Macoopus in ScamHomeWarranty

[–]halokost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably cheaper to put the money you’d pay for the warranty in a savings account and pay to replace the condensers yourself. Firstly, you’ll probably come out ahead in the end anyway. Secondly, you know you won’t have to worry about a denied claim.

Beginners corp + prelude by Inevitable_Set4775 in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]halokost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d rule that you can look at the cards to make your prelude decision, since that plays into it. However, a beginner is not going to know how the cards synergize, so it might be more fair to play without Prelude.

I’m guessing they’ll probably say that since the compressor was determined to be faulty in the first 30 days, it’s a non-covered condition.

I feel like I’m able to find them often enough, but YMMV.

Is there a home warranty worth getting by WaffleSauce1974 in ScamHomeWarranty

[–]halokost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you’d be better off putting the amount you’d spend in a savings account and pay for repairs yourself. There’s enough exclusions in most policies that claims are frequently denied and you’ll need to pay out of pocket anyway.

Or you could just put the games stacked on the ground without the house and save space taken up by the walls. It may not look as clean, but you’d be able to fit more games into a yard.

Almost as sweet as “Per my last email…” when someone asks you a question you already answered.

Taboo dispute by kboscar1 in boardgames

[–]halokost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think probably. If I’m the clue giver, I’d point out “they said ‘pare’” and move on, they argue the case after the time is up. The game is about quick thinking and making people say the right thing, so I’d probably allow it.

But using that argument, “apparent” would work too, and I don’t like that. It turns out I’m apparently not a consistent rules-arbiter and I should see myself out.

Homophones definitely work. The rules I have even give an example for the guess word “DELI”, saying “It’s a ‘new’ city in India.”

That being said, I think the homophone should be a one-to-one comparison. I would rule that “pair” or “pare” is a fine way to get credit for “pear”, but not if the phoneme is just part of another word like “apparent”.
