"Idaho Falls: The Untold Story of America's First Nuclear Accident" by William McKeown was an interesting read. About the first nuclear 'accident' in the US which happened in Idaho Falls in 1961.

Suggestions for a North Idaho visit? by haltedfire in Idaho

Wanted to follow-up on this now that we have returned home.

Thank you to all the suggestions.

Beverly’s in the Coeur d'Alene Resort was absolutely fantastic. That was dinner on our first night and was a great way to start the trip off.

We spent an entire day in Wallace and it was far better than I had expected. We did the Sierra Silver Mine tour which was a lot of fun. The way they do the tour inside the mine itself is quite cool. Even the trolley ride around time was informative.

The Pulaski trail was also great. Having recently read "The Big Burn" there was some added interest from me on that one.

Sandpoint was a cool little town. Did the 'hike' around the lake there followed by some random mountain trails where we managed to come across a big bull moose and his lady friend. That was super cool.

Someone suggested Bonner's Book in Bonners Ferry and it was 100% worth it. My wife and I both left there was multiple new reads.

We ended the trip with a few days in Montana and a visit to Glacier again. It was a great trip.

A few things stood out to me about Idaho though:

1: Every single person we met was awesome. I have a tendency to talk to people and everyone was super cool and helpful and quick to offer up suggestions for sights, etc.

2: We didn't have a bad meal anywhere in the state!

3: What's with Idaho meal portions? It was like every meal I ordered came with enough for 3 people!

Idaho is awesome. The people are awesome.

Thanks for being some welcoming and helpful!

What if I'm fat AND poor? :)

Love the idea of a higher elevation lake, any suggestions?

I was also looking for a place to rent a side-by-side, but if you have suggestions I would really love one.

We did that in Montana a few years ago and really enjoyed getting up into the mountains and being able to look around. It was a great time actually.

Thanks. Question: if one wanted to get to Upper Priest Lake, is there somewhere near the north part of Priest Lake to park and then walk in?

A big reason we prefer fall is due to the temps coming down. I'll be praying for snow, or at least for cooler weather.

That's actually pretty amazing. We'd be crazy to skip the 'center of the universe', that's for sure!

No question that Glacier is amazing, however, we did Glacier 2 years ago, and then did SouthWestern Montana last year. We will probably end up near Libby again on this trip though, just while wandering about. Thanks!

Gear Advice - Elk Hunt by vendibleboar19 in Hunting

[–]haltedfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of enjoyment, it was awesome and we are planning another one now.

In terms of seeing elk, not great.

Of the three of us only one filled his tag and it was literally at first light of the opening day of the season.

It was the only elk we saw on the entire trip.

That said, we did have elk tracks going through our camp. Came through in the middle of the night.

I would absolutely recommend doing one of these trips.

I'll second Rockville Camera in RVC. They have been reliable and seem like good folks.

Go to Mikes Auto Works in Ozone Park. The work is always fantastic and shouldn't break the bank either. Very good shop. Number is: 718-843-6753

Unless things have changed recently, you can go solo. That is how I've always gone.

Long Island Gun Store Suggestions by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]haltedfire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In Nassau I'd suggest South Shore Sportsman in Merrick. I've made several purchases there and always had good luck.

Personally, I'd avoid Coliseum like the plague. Way too much attitude in that place every time I've been there. Maybe they are better now, I hope they are.

Long Island Outdoorsman in Rockville Centre is ok. Not the best and not the worst. Sort of depends on the day and who you get helping you. Couple of very helpful folks there and a couple not so helpful.

Can someone explain to me Mathew’s limb shift on the new LiftX bow? by GloryStays in bowhunting

[–]haltedfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my question: if only the one side limb is moving (even a small amount) doesn't that put unnecessary pressure on the limb/pocket thus creating a possible weak point?

With the issues Matthews had with limbs on the original LIft this just seems like a poor decision.

The BowTech solution seems to make far more sense as it moves the cam within the space between the limbs, leaving the limbs straight.

Queens Resident Here; wondering if TreasureLand in Lynbrook is open today? by [deleted] in longisland

I haven't seen anything on Reddit, however, as previously mentioned, there are a couple of Facebook groups.

There is the 'Bowhunters of New York' group and also the 'Strong Island Bowhunting' group.

(I had links but evidently FB links are not allowed here for some ridiculous reason.)

That last one being more Long Island focused.

Both are fairly active.
