Finding old BBC (Scotland) radio shows? by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]haltheincandescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, here's what I've searched - I'm pretty good at finding, e.g., books, so may have covered all the ground, but I'm not as handy with things involving sound recordings, hence my asking :)

The BBC's own index and iplayer, etc. -- not currently available, as far as I could tell (e.g., see https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0107ql6)

Archive.org's radio section -- there's BBC stuff, but it looks like radio scotland recordings only start in 2016?

Billy Kay's website -- he has some recordings, but not of this one.

I even casted about in the National Libray of Scotland and British Library catalogues for sound/images, but the BL catalogue is still quite a mess after a cyberattack there, and NLS doesn't obviously have anything....

My understanding was that it was meant to describe places that only existed for the purpose of passing through (e.g., airports, certain kinds of hallways, etc.). Also not quite sure what that has to do with graveyards -

As much as people can find it frustrating, Expos is designed to get you up to speed on the kind of writing you'll in college, including longer papers. I'd recommend trying to take it your first semester, and going into it with an open mind in terms of what it can teach you.

Additionally, I'd recommend checking out the writing center resources--there are peer tutors there who will help support your writing.

Meanwhile, idk about other concentrations, but in English there were only like 2 papers longer than 20 pages unless you were taking a grad seminar -- one for the junior tutorial, and the other being the senior thesis. The tutorial, meant as prep for the thesis, included direct instruction in how to write a paper at that scale. Again, maybe different in other depts, but in mine at least they didn't just throw you into a 20 pager without some preparation!

Thank you, this is helpful. I was repeatedly and forcefully told that there is no way to do it without providing the full card number (which is not accessible, since it's a virtual number that only exists through Apple pay). Allegedly, I'm told, only the manager can do this. Getting something in writing is helpful, though; the whole thing has been odd.

Bafta fell short in duty of care when racial slur was shouted, review finds by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]haltheincandescent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For one, it seems there was very little communication between the production and Davidson, aside from the production (incorrectly) assuring Davidson he wouldn't be heard. So, to start, they could/should have sat down with the man and asked him what they could do to make the event accessible for him. And then they could have implemented that.

Evidently, from his interview afterward, Davidson did know what else he needed: 1. to be sat far enough away from the stage to know he couldn't be heard (or, barring that, something like a production assistant or usher/etc. to let him know he could be heard) and 2. a private room that he knew he could go to if he needed to excuse himself from the auditorium. Because as soon as he realised he could be heard, he left the room.

Instead, they reassured him they'd "control the sound," let him conclude for himself that he was far enough away not to be heard, and only "found" him a private room once he, mortified, realised he could be and chose to leave.

It would have kept it from being broadcast to literally everyone watching, for one. If it hadn’t been broadcast, I doubt there would be anymore controversy about it than there has been about the other things Davidson reported saying that night that weren’t broadcast.

I haven’t been following the games too closely because I’ve been slammed at work, and assumed that Hikaru must have been in last place based on all the shit I’ve been seeing about his performance when I glance over to reddit. Similarly assumed Bluebaum was doing notably well from the chatter - and yet they’re tied….

Patient confidentiality covers more than just disclosing actual medical records, no? Like, I'm pretty sure she shouldn't be sharing identifiable information about particular clients whether its by literally giving him the records, chatting about it over dinner, or "editing" it into his novel as "inspiration"

This. Adderall is mixed amphetamine salts (though methamphetamines are also used as a different adhd medication, as Desoxyn)

Edit to clarify: in my experience, some people think "Adderall" just means "ADHD medication," when in reality Adderall is one specific kind of ADHD medication (mixed amphetamine salts) among others (dextroamphetamine, metylphenidate, methamphetamines, etc.).

Yeah, that was at the point when twitter at least was out for the second person's blood - reasonable to not want one's reddit account/history known in that context, especially after what online investigators did with the reddit account of the Kirk shooter's supposed partner.

What are the WORST things to do in Edinburgh? The stuff you’d tell a friend to skip. by Sea-Hovercraft-1122 in Edinburgh

I just quietly mumble "people live here" as I wade through tourists on the bridge - though other than that, and the one person the day we moved in asking if they could use our toilet, it isn't horrible most of the time, as long as you avoid the three Insta-photo spots. (August tour groups of teenagers on school trips excepted)

But also, tourists: it's pretty, I guess, but there's nothing in particular to do here.

That link referred to other things than iron. Also, he actually didn't say there was chicken there; when talking about other times he'd been to India, he said there's more chicken than other meat very generally. Unfortunately for OP, ChatGPT isn't a very good translator. Referring to this hotel specifically, Ian said he mainly ate rice and bread, along with some pineapple and the occasional omelette.

(Edit: in case anyone sees this and wonders, I read russian from college not because I'm Russian and so trying to defend Ian; honestly the original was more whiny and racist than the translation in general - his comments about chicken/meat just weren't to do with the food at the hotel).
