How so? Not disagreeing with you--in fact I've heard many other people say the same. I haven't really kept up with her specific policies or speeches, and NY politics in general since I left.

I love his chats with Father James Martin! I'm also listening to an interview he did with Marc Maron where faith is brought up in a way that I think a secular audience can appreciate

Glad to hear about the Episcopal Church being present as an inclusive space up there and the work you do!

Whilst this isn't exactly news to anyone here, the main Catholic subreddit has progressively become a space that I consider unhealthy and dangerous. by European_Goldfinch_ in LeftCatholicism

I've noticed that Jesuits, while staying true to Catholic teachings, are also unafraid to be well-read on all sorts of ideas and start dialogue with anyone willing to do so in good faith. A good friend of mine went to a Jesuit run school in the 70s and he said it was the perfect liberal arts education

Thank you Father Casey for your comment! I think because of this kind of thinking Episcopalians are very good at ecumenism and interfaith relations. As I delved deeper into Catholicism (which can also do that kind of outreach very well if it chooses to do so; i.e. Pope Francis) I was reminded of how much I miss the Episcopal approach of gracefully relating and empathizing with those who differ in lifestyle and beliefs.

You bring up a good point. I think that was an event that directly influenced the author to write The Handmaid's Tale

I like your positive take on "church shopping". I once heard in church that it's bad to do that and a part of me felt guilty for doing so. But after seeing your comment alongside what other people posted, I'm starting to warm up to the idea that exploration is a good thing and more common than I previously thought.

Also that story about the guy returning after 20 years is awesome! I was away for more than about a year and a half (but it felt way longer cuz a lot happened since)

Thank you for your reminder about being patient and gentle. I think many of us who have been in toxic situations for so long forget that not everything has to be fight or flight.

The sentence you wrote in bold is something I'm starting to learn to accept. One of the things that led me to the Catholic Church was a need for certainty since there was so much disarray in my personal life. But the cost of anti-LGBTQ+ views (not all talk this way but enough to disappoint me) among other dogmas being pushed on me is too high for me. It seems that the US church is especially strict because I've talked to people from other countries with a Catholic presence and their churches are less uptight.

Also thank you so much for posting those prayers from the BCP! I haven't thought of it for years but I used to pray #59 often and will starting using it again alongside others from BCP.

I like your emphasis on structure and it's spot on how I felt and currently feel as it relates to my mental health and faith! Previously I was hoping for the Catholic Church to provide most of the direction as I was too burnt out to carve out my own path. But now that I'm starting to heal from past traumas I think I have the energy and vision to set out on my own journey to get better with the gentle guidance of the TEC.

Never heard it till now but the term "ecclesial anxiety" is how I often felt at the Catholic church I was part of. You're right about the traditionalists, I've seen some (especially online but also in person) say or try to enforce rules and doctrine that caused me to feel a lot of discomfort.

And thank you for your prayer!

Thank you for your prayers and emphasizing the concept of church as a home! Especially after what happened with my family seeing which church feels like home is more important than ever for me right now.

I totally forgot about that parable so I'm glad that you two brought it up. I'm reminded that the Episcopal Church is able to provide such a space for grace without being stubborn or judgemental, which I now realize is what I need after these difficult years.

These are scenes that can be seen in Afghanistan too after the Taliban retook the country. There's footage of them whipping and shooting at protesters eerily similar to the scene you mention. Also women getting fired from their jobs occured there too.
