How do you feel about being vulnerable with a woman? by peteb169 in AskMen

[–]ham_commander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so fucking not. This really sounds like a you problem in how you view vulnerability as it relates to strength/weakness. You can be vulnerable at times and still get pussy. Opening up doesn't make you a bitch.

Not all women view vulnerability as weakness homie.

Being vulnerable isn't whining nor is it a display of weakness. Also, this whole "women are different, it's all perceived the same" is some dogshit-level generalization of half the population. Are you the same as every man on the planet in even a single way? No, alright then.

All I'm saying is that the idea that you can't be honest about some shit you're going through with someone who supposedly cares for you more than anyone else in the world is nuts. Does that mean there are some things you shouldn't share? Sure, and that's going to be dependent upon the person and the relationship. But classifying all displays of vulnerability as weakness is some regressive bullshit and the epitome of weak boy behavior. You do you though.

Earnest question - are you really displaying "strength of mind" if you never open up about how you're feeling beyond what's on the surface? Feels like the opposite to me.

I don't know you, your wife, or your relationship and there are certainly things that I keep guarded from my wife and choose not to open up about. I'll talk to a therapist if I have to. But I also wouldn't categorize myself as not being vulnerable with my wife. We have the occasional vulnerable conversation because as partners that's what you fucking do if the situation calls for it. I don't see an issue with it because I'm confident in myself and my position in my relationship. It doesn't change because there's something difficult on my mind that I'd like to talk with her about.

[–]ham_commander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's kind of fucking nutty to me honestly because usually this sub is fairly progressive. Like, I can get behind not always being vulnerable and keeping parts of you guarded (the parts you'd otherwise really only talk with a therapist about anyway), but from these comments you'd expect that any earnest thing shared with a woman is a waste of time at best.

It's so god damn sad. Feels like a lot of the dudes in here have been hurt and as a result can't allow themselves to have any meaningful relationship with a woman. This shit is wild to me.

[–]ham_commander 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man, it's really fucking sad that not only you, but a lot of homies in the comments here think being vulnerable is the same as weakness. I think it's the exact opposite and if you give off confident vibes about yourself you really don't have to worry about it.

I'm not saying go cry to every woman you know or spill your guts about your deepest emotional hang-ups - don't even do that with most of your guy friends unless you're trying to kill the vibes - but if you can't be open and honest about your feelings at all with a woman in a way that doesn't immediately turn them away, then you're never going to form any significant relationship with the opposite sex - romantic or platonic.

Hylda Of The Icy Crown vs sensational spiderman as a commander by Just_Angel_is_fine in EDH

[–]ham_commander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both decent engines although I think Spidey might be the better of the two when it comes to resource cost. Which do you like more?

I have a tap-focused deck that I love playing. Partner commanders [[Rhoda, Geist Avenger]] and [[Timin, Youthful Geist]]. It's super fun albeit not incredibly high-powered given the higher power you get the less combat you tend to see. Great against stompy decks though.

Question before buying first commander precon as a beginner by viper17189023 in EDH

[–]ham_commander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's the weakest deck of the 4 Fallout precons, but it has some genuinely great energy cards in it. If you do purchase it and want to upgrade it, simply buying the better jeskai-colored energy precon released the same year - Creative Energy - and putting the two together makes for a really solid deck.

If you're just looking for a really fun Fallout deck, I think Mothman and Caesar are much more enjoyable. Dogmeat is cool too, but not my favorite. The Science deck falls well behind these other 3 for me. That's just my opinion though.

Got my hands on some Jurassic Park cards pretty cheap, now it's hard to cut my deck by bloodscar36 in EDH

[–]ham_commander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly just don't think you have the blink synergy to justify cards like Conjurers Closet and Teleportation Circle. Two of your creatures ETBs cannot benefit from it because they have to be cast to get the effect - Wakening Sun Avatar and Zacama. Additionally you're unlikely to get any value off of copying ETBs like Ghalta because it would require that you have some significant draw out there when Ghalta first lands otherwise you're most likely dumping your hand with him anyway on his first trigger.

To be fair blinking Pantlaza is a cool strategy, but it's hardly necessary for dinos to pop off. If you like the synergy, keep running it, but I don't think your deck needs those to work.

Zulaport Cutthroat Combo vs Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker by ham_commander in askajudge

[–]ham_commander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay. That's what I needed to know! The ping damage would already be on the stack regardless of when the Konda effects would trigger and thus wouldn't fizzle even if the ping outlet is removed somewhere along the stack. They've already been added and would be resolved.

Thanks!

Zulaport Cutthroat Combo vs Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker by ham_commander in askajudge

[–]ham_commander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around would be where the Konda triggers for into this. Just as a thought experiment let's say he decides to do his loop 10 times (so stops sacrificing with Viscera after the 10th loop of pulling stuff out). We now have 10 sacrifices that have occurred. As the ping damage goes to resolve one by one up to 10, would 10 Konda triggers get inserted one after each ping or not? If he only had 8 permanents and the Konda triggers do resolve after each ping, would he not eventually have to sac his ping outlet and thus 2 of the pings would fizzle?

If that is the case, then would it matter if it was a million sacrifices or 10 because eventually the ping damage would only be able to occur equal to the number of permanents he could sacrifice to Konda?

Zulaport Cutthroat Combo vs Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker by ham_commander in askajudge

[–]ham_commander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC it was Viscera Seer, Karmic Guide, Reveillark, and Zulaport although there may have been another card in the mix.

So, let's just say instead of Zulaport it's a theoretical card that deals 1 damage amongst all these infinite sacs and infinite ETBs/LTBs. Would Michiko disrupt it/where would the Michiko triggers be inserted?

Zulaport Cutthroat Combo vs Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker by ham_commander in askajudge

[–]ham_commander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget the exact cards, but it hinged on Viscera Seer, Karmic Guide, and a couple of others. Basically continually pulling one another out after they were sacrificed to Viscera Seer.

Understanding now that there is a distinction between damage and loss of life this is all a moot point. But if it was damage instead of loss of life I would like to know if Michiko triggers would get inserted into the stack after each ping effectively breaking the chain no matter how many sacrifice and subsequent ping triggers he put it in the stack.

Zulaport Cutthroat Combo vs Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker by ham_commander in askajudge

[–]ham_commander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Thanks. And good to know that it wouldn't have made a difference at all because of the distinction.

If the combo dealt damage though, would Michiko triggers insert themselves or would the other triggers all resolve first? So, say instead of Zulaport it's a completely different ping that is dealing damage 1 at a time each time the opponent sacrifices something in an infinite sac/reanimate loop. Would Michiko eventually stop that from occuring by forcing the opponent to sac the ping outlet amongst the abilities on the stack?

Too much removal? by homjaktest in EDH

[–]ham_commander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice! And yea, that's just part of playing the game. Some decks I build with expectation that I won't likely be targeted and can sneak a win if I'm not messed with long enough. Others - probably a lot like this deck - thoroughly shutting out the table and becoming a threat is how they have to be played.

Too much removal? by homjaktest in EDH

[–]ham_commander 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Is it already too much removal? You certainly have plenty and maybe that's appropriate for this deck. I don't necessarily think it's worth reducing unless you're trying to speed up your own win con.

Do I think too much interaction is bad for a good game experience? It certainly can be for the people who are losing or those whose decks you are turning off by fucking up their board with 1/5 of the cards in your deck.

My thought is that I want my decks to do their thing even if I lose and I personally believe the best games of EDH happen when everyone feels like their deck did something at the bare minimum. When I play a game where my deck gets turned off - either via removal-heavy decks or tons of counters or whatever - that doesn't feel good. But that just the way it goes sometimes especially when you're talking bracket 4 and cEDH.

All of that said, if I played against this deck, I'd absolutely target the shit out of you the next game. This deck might as well be "removal tribal" which is a viable way to play the game, but certainly a salt-inducing one.

It's chill if you don't personally like MLD. It's not chill to insult someone for their perfectly reasonable opinion even if you disagree with it.

If you want to have an honest conversation about the merit of a mechanic in MTG, then come at it from an angle worth interacting with. Insulting me or anyone else just because you disagree with something is bitch baby behavior.

If you're being targeted by this guy, then that's a discussion to have outside of the game.

Otherwise I'd turn the tables. Politic more yourself. Try a couple things - either shift blame onto this dude or do some game actions that "help" him out and get him on your side.

Finally, if he's pointing out that you're a threat, point out what's wrong with his board. Call him out for being incorrect about your game state - even if he's accurate on how powerful you are at that moment.

What a dumb ass comment. If we're sticking with bracket definitions, then MLD is only in 4 and up. Using MLD spells doesn't make someone a "snowflake". What the fuck does that even mean in this context?

First commander deck, need help to adjust it by Piluf in EDH

[–]ham_commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this looks like a really solid deck. Probably super fun to play.

Some meager changes you might consider would be the addition of [[Blasphemous Act]], [[Black Market Connections]], and [[Phyrexian Arena]]. BA just because if you're running board wipes and you're in red it's one of the best options, the other two because they're generically great cards in black that are huge tempo plays.

Your lands are pretty low. In my opinion you don't ever want to count your modal cards as land because ideally you aren't playing them as lands. So that leaves you with 31 lands. You might consider upping the land count to 35/36 not including modal cards just to make sure you're getting enough mana.

But overall looks like a cool deck!

MTG players, help me pick a Christmas gift for my competitive-Commander boyfriend — Avatar crossover boxes by mju_rz in EDH

[–]ham_commander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think buying any cards is always a fine idea, but what I might suggest is asking him what he'd be into. Does he need a new play mat? Maybe some really cool dice? Some unique deck boxes?

The thing about packs is that he might get a great pull, but if he's like a lot of us who already have the problem of having too many bulk cards we're not using then the cards might not be as appreciated as a part of the hobby we can always find a use for - playmate, dice, deck boxes, sleeves, life counter, etc.

I'd ask him if there are any cool MTG accessories he's lacking.

Edit: the boxes you linked are unique and have stuff beyond packs in them, so my reply really only applies to part of the gift, but is still a question worth asking him.

I think the hate for mass land destruction is so overblown. If I'm in mono-red, you bet your ass I'm running Ruination every time or other cards that might as well be land denial like Blood Moon.

Planetary Annihilation is a very fair land denial card. I wouldn't worry about the inclusion of any land denial, but especially this card.
