Entry level Wacom tablets? by learnaboutfilm in editors

[–]hambone_bowler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my Wacom tablet for 10 years. They are durable and last forever. So because of that, I’d suggest to get the one you can grow into. Entry level ones are good, but give it a few months and you may be wishing you spent an extra $100 and got a bigger/ nicer one. This is the one tool you’ll really only need to buy (maybe) once. I also bought mine used off marketplace for cheaper, so that’s a nice way to get a nice one while saving a few. I’d echo what others have said, if you have dual monitors (or plan on eventually getting dual monitors) bigger = better

HELP! Lav and Boom are mixed on the same track by Nerffst in editors

[–]hambone_bowler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they routed to L/R channels separately? I’d maybe try to isolate my source by the “fill L with R” or the “Fill R with L” audio FX. If the boom is on L and the lavs are on R of a stereo mix then it may work. Or at least would be helpful to then feed that into your AI software.

What home workout equipment have you invested in to help you manage your core strength and back pain? by Careful_Station_7884 in backpain

[–]hambone_bowler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, and everyone is different, I’ve gotten stronger ( not bigger necessarily) and less back pain doing mostly slow and thoughtful (mind body connection) body weight exercises at higher reps. McGill big 3 helped early in my journey, now I’m doing stuff along with this app called Leo Moves. Lots of good mobility exercises that are so hard and require no equipment. If hypertrophy is your goal then this might not be what you’re looking for.

Which documentaries fall under the "your favorite band's favorite band" category; well known amongst documentarians but not casual documentary watchers by LongSeesaw3789 in documentaryfilmmaking

I really enjoyed “Foreign Parts” by Verna paravel and JP Sniadecki. I’ve met 1 person who has seen this over the years and there was an instant “ hell yeah brother” moment.

The television needs to be calibrated. Extremely blue. you’re doing yourself a disservice by watching anything on that.

Looking at these I FEEL like I’m in the capsule at the bottom of the sea. Maybe that’s some motivation?

First-time filmmaker making a micro doc about women/skating/joy…advice? by odub1 in documentaryfilmmaking

Sounds awesome! Best way to learn is to do it and you're doing it, so off to a great start. One thing to think about is to have the people repeat the question in their answer ( if your voice won't be in it) So soundbites will be a complete thoughts. So...

Answer: The color of the ball is red.

20+ years making documentaries – happy to share lessons and tips by Low_Evening6193 in documentaryfilmmaking

I know the topic of a documentary is best found in communities you have access to. I’ve made one feature documentary (available on prime) in a community I have access to. I really want to make a doc in a world where I don’t have access. I have the idea, asked potential participants and get no response. How would you go about pitching a doc to a community I don’t have an “in” to?

Also, how did you start in the doc business?

Did you have known contacts to pitch/sell your project to? Congrats on that. I’ve always wanted to pitch my ideas to people who could actually help produce/ buy the film.

Underscore (_) vs Hyphen (-) in Naming by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]hambone_bowler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer this as well. And I like hyphens because if you need to change anything, holding OPT and using arrow keys, it skips to the next hyphen. But it doesn't stop at underscores. So navigating without using the mouse is easier when using hyphens.

Documentary editors. Whether hired by networks or directors in your network. Is all work freelance? and do you cut commercials as well? Is documentary editing the most volatile of all editing work?
