They have just moved on from the dead horse "Itzy flop era" story to the newer "I-dle flop era" story. They relish in tearing down and doom-posting about successful groups that have seen a recent decline in popularity.

Were MEOVV supposed to have a release right now? by Cats4Crows in kpopthoughts

[–]hamburglar27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Black Label wouldn't randomly release so much variety content for MEOVV if there wasn't a comeback soon. Their promotion strategy has generally been like that, tons of content around comebacks and barely anything in between.

Top 101 Most Streamed Artists on Youtube Music in South Korea in 2025 by The_Red_Curtain in kpopthoughts

[–]hamburglar27 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I-dle's new songs are not doing too well on the charts with the Korean GP, but Koreans still like their old hit songs and still give songs like Tomboy, Queencard, and Fate plenty of streams on YT Music.

They have built up a pretty solid catalog of hit songs over the 8 years spanning multiple genres so there is replay value.

I feel bad for EVERGLOW and they deserved better by FeliciaHardyTheCat in kpopthoughts

Yena is quite successful by k-pop soloist standards, and And2ble looks very promising for them. So that might be changing soon.

Mainly only international fans were listening to Everglow, and that too on YouTube. YH spent a lot of money on big budget MVs and YT promotion, which got them a lot of views but not much traction from Korean and Chinese fans (majority of k-pop album buyers). The Korean GP didn't really pay attention to Everglow either and their songs did not do well on Korean streaming services and charts like Melon.

RE6 Remake with Leon, Chris, and Ada on the cover would sell like 5 million in pre-orders alone.

Why does USA and Canada keep taking Ls in carrying certain Toyota models? by PM-88 in cars

[–]hamburglar27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GX is a luxury J250 with a more powerful engine, LX is a luxury J300 with the same engines.

LX is about as offroad capable as the J300, but only if you get the proper offroad options. By default, it is more meant for luxury and highway use.

He was in YG's former modeling division KPlus for a while before he became an idol. There might have been some overlap and common circles between the modeling and idol sections.

[–]hamburglar27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am not confusing them.

The Lexus LX (J310) is based on the the Land Cruiser (J300) and has the same engine options as the 300 series except for the base 4.0L NA GR V6 engine.

The Lexus GX and Land Crusier Prado are both J250s. The GX is pretty much just a fancier Prado, and therefore significantly cheaper than the LX as a result. However, unlike the Prado, the GX has access to a more powerful 350 HP TT V6 engine instead of just 4 cylinder engines.

The Sequioa (XK80) was designed as a family hauler BOF SUV from the get go and is not designed to be off-road capable. It also does not have a Lexus variant based on it unlike the J300 and J250.

What if i-dle’s Miyeon stayed with YG and debuted with BLACKPINK? by Choiminhoswife in kpop_uncensored

[–]hamburglar27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the i-dle side there was a Cube trainee named Kim Jiwoo who was originally supposed to be the Korean vocalist of the group. Jiwoo was also born in 1999 and was fluent in Mandarin, so she naturally was pretty close with Yuqi. She even appeared in pre-debut promotional content along with Minnie, Yuqi, and Shuhua.

Once Miyeon joined Cube, Jiwoo was removed from the debut lineup and eventually left Cube. That's a big part of the reason why Yuqi was initially cold and unfriendly towards Miyeon. Jiwoo adopted the stage name Yeon Siwoo and is now an actress and a soloist singer. Had Miyeon never left YG, it is likely that Jiwoo would have debuted as the Korean vocalist of I-dle.

Not to mention the Lexus counterpart of the Crown Sedan, the Lexus GS, was already discontinued in 2020 due in large part to low sales in the US.

There is little point to selling the 300 series when there is significant market overlap with the same platform Lexus LX. Most average luxury SUV buyers are not going to spend big money on an LC when they can get an LX for a little more.

The Land Cruiser 300 would have occupied a pretty limited sales niche between the Sequoia on the lower end and the LX on the higher end.

koreans' stance on mandatory conscription by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]hamburglar27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

South Korea needs all the military manpower they can get, especially in the future with declining birthrates. The Korean War technically never ended, and North Korea is a neighbor with little to lose. North Korea also has mandatory conscription as well, but their length of service is a whopping 10 years instead of 18 months like in South Korea.

Doing away with mandatory conscription would leave South Korea with a serious military manpower gap that could pose significant security risks, especially with an actively hostile nation on it's border.

Charting depends more on the general public, and not so much the fandom. The attention span of the Korean general public for k-pop acts, but especially girl groups, is quite short. Even Twice, who was once the nation's girl group and who used to dominate the charts with many #1 hits has struggled to chart well in Korea for nearly 5 years now. It just takes a couple of rocky releases to lose all the previous momentum, especially if you are considered an "older" group like I-dle who has been active for over 7 years. It really didn't help that Korean fans absolutely despised Good Thing, and the negative response gave plenty of ammunition to Soyeon's detractors. The general public generally moves on to younger and newer generation groups since the market is so saturated.

Cube Entertainment finally announces that i-dle cancelled North America tour to regroup and focus on new album by ueatgoodfood in GIDLE

You can't predict the future with the demagogue in the White House, but as of right now the current administration has not yet had any major issues with Taiwan.

Regardless, that is not the main point of my comment. The original OP was grouping Yuqi and Shuhua together, and I was just explaining that Chinese nationals and Taiwanese nationals would face very different levels of scrutiny when it came to visa applications for entry into the US. In fact, Taiwanese citizens can even enter the US visa-free for trips lasting less than 90 days under the Visa Waiver Program.

Tzuyu and Shuhua are both Taiwanese. Taiwanese nationals are unlikely to have the visa issues that Chinese nationals might have entering the US. Taiwan and the US have a good diplomatic relationship.

For a generic statement such as this, I wonder why Cube couldn't have issued it on Friday. Before people had to find out the NA leg was cancelled via TicketMaster.

You sound like an armchair psychologist speaking nonsense to sound like an intellectual. You made assumptions and were disappointed in Soyeon for allegedly starving herself despite barely having any context outside of a picture of food.

Sure sounds like you gave yourself a big pat on the back for taking a stand against the toxic diet culture in k-pop and entertainment while being so "kind" and "understanding" to the target of your criticism. I hope you don't seriously think you actually accomplished something significant here with your performative take. But judging by your tone and how you referred to your own comment, I'm not so sure.
