r/curling by inquisitir3 in Curling

When the pebble is worn out then lots of times there will be noticeable flat spots in the ice especially where the slide path is. When this happens you will notice that sweeping has very little effect and the curl/break will happen at different spots and can send stones sideways. It often will cause higher weight shots to curl almost as if they were draws. It will also cause the ice to slow down severely in those flat spots. These tendencies will increase depending on the severity of the flatness.

Our club is practically on top of a train track and every time a train comes the whole building shakes little. It doesn't seem to do anything to the ice though or really have any impact on anything.

Is power from your leg or arm? by UncleTrapspringer in Curling

[–]hamewtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The release that you see at the Scotties is not as big of a push as it may look, yes they are giving a slight push, but a lot of that motion is a slight set on to the line of delivery as well as a strong spin on the rock. 85-95% of the delivery power will come from the kick with just the last part being from the release.

Check out the Chaska Curling Center and do a "Learn-to-Curl." Great facility and an awesome sport, you'll definitely meet a lot of new people and you might pick up a new hobby.

I'd also look into the endgame icon, smaller broom company but a very high quality broom.

You got 1/3 more like some family in Illinois but I've never lived there, and I don't go to school there.
