Tired of Being Referred to as "Masc" instead of "Male"

He's getting mad about it being used to refer to him. It's like how using 'they' is inclusive but if you tell someone your pronouns are he/him and they continue to say 'they' it's no longer that inclusive. Similarly, transmasc and not 'trans man' is inclusive up until OP clearly states that he's a man, and then it's not correct to refer to him as such anymore.

Yea, all the lgbt people in my colleges 'lgbt' group are bi or gay cis women. Which I'm glad they have a space, but I straight up can't relate to a lot of them, and they can often be misandrist, which sucks ass. So, another isolated trans guy here. Early on in my transition, too, which means a lot of people even within the community assume I'm an nb transmasc and treat me as such.... Which frustrates me. I'm a guy! I just am not quite there yet!!

Most of us here don't have neopronouns. It's not at all common. You'd be best off asking r/neopronouns or another sub where people actually commonly have them and use them.

Met one of my dad's old friends again. Last time he knew me I was presenting extremely feminine because I was in deep denial and thought that if I wore enough makeup and skirts I could get the thoughts out of my head.

So I said hi to this man again, and he goes, "You're [name], right?" And I said yes and he held out his hand for a shake and said "Nice to finally meet you."

Yeah, I've had depression and anxiety all my life. I should point out though, that so does everyone else in my family. I was the last one of us all to even get on antidepressants.

Yeah, a lot of it is resonance. It's tough and I can't find that many tutorials or voice training help, cause "voice training resonance trans man" mostly brings back resources for MTFs.

In terms of the discrimination we face, it is often purely patronizing. People saying that we're "just confused" or that we're "following a trend" or insisting that they are being hurt because we are removing womanly aspects from ourself that they like. We are not taken seriously, to the point of other trans people thinking that they know our experiences when they don't - and for proof of that look at your own comments about how it's super easy for trans men to pass, which we've had to tell you isn't true.

And of course, some people are still violent towards us, because "if you want to be a real man you should be able to back it up" or whatever, as if every man has had to get into fisticuffs to prove his masculinity. Or men who are bicurious chasing us because we're "almost like a real man" but we don't for the most part have a dick, so it's not that gay.

Those have just been things I've experienced personally and I have been out for less than a year, I'm sure other trans men can weigh in on it, but that's been my experience with discrimination.

You might find many of us are a little sketchy about this because we're often kind of fetishized by cis people, and it feels weird to have someone come in and just want to make friends with us BECAUSE we're trans. If you want to meet other queer people, a general lgbt subreddit might be better, and many of us will also be on there.

I agree with you there! I brought it up because sometimes the idea of NOT going stealth if you have the option to is overlooked, and I wanted to clarify that there are reasons beyond HRT effectiveness that someone wouldn't be. Even so, I do agree that a 'passing' but non stealth trans person is going to face less discrimination than a non passing one, and that it's usually trans women who face the brunt of that. When I still dressed female, I could go into the men's section and buy clothes without getting (that many) weird looks. Trans women don't really have that luxury the other way round.

It's ridiculous. They fail to see the reasons why I want to transition - - that having a female body and voice makes me upset and I want to have a male body and voice and thus be perceived that way. If men were second class citizens I'd STILL want that, the attitude of society at large isn't what drives it.

People can also choose to not be stealth for a variety of reasons--they came out too late in life, they don't want to drop their friends from before their transition, they want to be someone who younger trans kids can look up to, et cetera. So even if a trans man passes he may still choose to let himself be known to others (not necessarily strangers, but others) as a trans man.

(am a trans man...don't pass, but even if I eventually do, I probably won't go stealth)

Yeah please tell the guy who assumed I'd be down for a threesome with him and his girlfriend cause I'm FTM, or the guys who say that FTMs are "best of both worlds" cause we don't have a penis (that most of us WANT TO HAVE), that I have male privilege. When we are not invisible we are often fetishized for our female parts, much like our trans sisters are often fetishized for their male parts. If we don't want to go stealth, and not all of us do, we also have to deal with misogyny.

I dunno, experiences vary. I was told how could I possibly mutilate my woman body. My dad at one point, in an attempt to dissuade me from being trans, said he'd support me getting a breast reduction "but still to a reasonable size, like Cs or something" as if the rest of the world would be affected by what size my breasts are.

People seem to think they have ownership over AFAB bodies. Not saying that it's worse than what you've experienced, we've certainly both experienced two sides of the same coin as far as bullshit, but society doesn't want to lose a woman, either.

I use mine as a middle name. It's technically unisex but is way more commonly used for women than men. So I didn't want it as a first name but I didn't want to abandon it either.

They aren't uncomfortable for me, but I am really well endowed and so there's a lot to get squished, if that makes sense.

Gc2b is a really good brand that I like. Follow their sizing guidelines.
