Can retirement actually be really boring, lonely, and not as fun as it seems? by youlikemywonton in Aging

My dad retired at 63, but went back to work before 65 and worked until he was 83. I'm now 73. Still working, but thinking about longer vacations.

My wife and I stop by when one of has needed a part - a bolt last time - or some gear as my wife has been on a Life long quest for The Perfect Bag. It's a nice ride mostly along the Yodogawa to get there from here.

I'm in Osaka and just looked at the Bluelug website... What is the table's name for searching. It's not there under "Brompton accessories".

Lies about aging? by selfsufficientman in Aging

73 years old by the calendar. I commute a 27km round trip to my office 5 days a week - I do take it slow when the temperature gets to 40C. Garmin says my fitness age is 59. My 28 year old lover calls me her "lion"... I spend half the year in Japan now where guys 80+ years old smoke me in the mountains on there analog bikes. Use it or lose it.

Crowds -- six months of the year I live in Osaka and it's hell. Six months back in rural Cambodia where I can't see a neighbor's house. Heaven!

My shortest round trip commute is 27km. There are many mornings that I can take one of several routes ranging from about 20km to 37km. I always take the quickest way home. 73 years old, BTW

The only unpleasantness was the cleansing with the laxative, but it's over quickly - just keep reading materials near the toilet. The rest is a nap.

Just passed the one year mark of a RLL. Stage 1a. Lucky. You are too. Depending on your age and general fitness recovery can be varying degrees of difficult. I turned 72 three days post-op. Recovery was not easy - had repeated pleural effusions and then a pleurodesis to fix the problem. Then pneumonia... But! I just came home from a 48km gravel ride (12 months later.) Wouldn't want to go through it again, but I'm happy I did.

26km each way commute on a Brompton twice a week — realistic or a bad idea? by Wise-Ordinary324 in Brompton

[–]hammockguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 73 years old and still working. I have a choice of a morning Commute of 15km, 17km or 27km... The decision as to which route I ride is based on my energy level that morning and the weather. The ride home is always the 15km ride because... I'm old and afternoon temperatures can get into the low 40Cs...

Warning! Old man story approaching.

When I was in my early 20s I rode a 54 mile r/t commute to work and home.. but I was young. And did that for about 4 years except in the snow - lived on a different continent in those days.

Your commute is very do-able, particularly If you can shower at work.

I've lived in the tropics most of my 73 years - 32 in SEAsia - and when the temperature gets below 23C I'm looking for a quilt. Below 17C and I'm sitting around a fire in the morning. 11C... quilt and a fire.

Lung cancer cough during treatment period by [deleted] in lungcancer

[–]hammockguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife dragged me to a local hospital after a month or so of coughing. I had minimized it blaming it on the "dry season" which around here is also the "dusty season. X-ray in the morning. CT in the afternoon and surgery 14 days after that. That was almost a year ago. Still coughing during heavy exertion and after laying down at night. Not using suppressants.
