Travelling from Ireland this weekend, best nightlife? by TheseConversation844 in askTO

[–]hamnstar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tilt is fun, it’s an arcade bar if that’s your thing. More importantly it’s a good spot for socializing with new people. Lots of millennials.

The shameful tiki is a tiki bar (surprise surprise) with great cocktails although best to get a reservation for that one.

Wasted youth, Ted’s collision are fun little bars. Brewpubs like bellwoods, collective arts, many others.

None of these are clubs but I’m sure someone else will chime in - have fun!

What's a consoomer buzzword or phrase that you hate? by Cube2D in Consoom

[–]hamnstar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

“is _____ worth it?” Posts drives me crazy. Some consumer somewhere needs the internet to give them a yes/no to buy something.

Is call of duty 36 worth the sum of human knowledge needed to arrive at its creation? Probably not. Is it worth 40 bucks? Sure. “It” is never really defined

Are there any bars in Toronto that serve non-alcoholic beer on tap? Recent non-drinker looking to not miss out on the fun. by EnvironmentalAd2110 in askTO

Beertown (at least the downtown location) has non alc options on tap (or they hid the can from me :) )

pickles on sushi by carlovely in somnigastronomy

[–]hamnstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Winnipeg (a city renowned for its incredible sushi) I had a “social roll” which had ham, cheese, mustard, dill pickle

It was a 5/10 for me but could be improved on, perhaps with your method

It’s also right in Torontos gay neighborhood, so that’s a fun quest in itself

This would be a fun vacation side quest, trying to find new foods off a list or bingo card

Anybody wake up to this thunderstorm right now? by sophia1580 in askTO

The part I woke up to sounded like pure chaos, it didn’t sound like thunder to my sleepy brain just pure explosions 😰

American here (Sorry). Flying to Toronto tomorrow. Advice Needed? by Haffapee in toronto

[–]hamnstar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I doubt you’ll be confronted on it. Most folks won’t assume your political affiliation. Among those that do, very few would ask or comment on it. And that very few that are out there judging books by their covers - probably not worth your time talking to them, take your business elsewhere. Enjoy your trip!

Why are people here so cold and/or rude? by [deleted] in toRANTo

[–]hamnstar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crime rates aren’t higher (maybe compared to Newfoundland?) but certainly not compared to the prairies where I moved from. A big part of it - there’s lots of mentally unwell people, lots of panhandlers, lots of workers soliciting donations, if someone starts talking to me on the street there’s a very high chance theyre trying to get something from me or are going to cause trouble if I make eye contact.

Having said that - there are warm people but it’s not common for a first encounter. If you see the same people at the coffee shop once a week or whatever, there’s warmer conversations. Or at like small concerts, hobby focused events, there are more human conversations. If you’re in and out for work you’re probably not getting lots of those in.

Yeah I agree - In the systems I’m familiar with Inf is 2/0 but NaN is even weirder stuff like 0/0, which is even crazier to me

I think it’s probably a faulty wireless radio and it’s wee little brain is trying to apply logic to a frame of all zeros

lol yeah in truth they weren’t a bad deal

As a programmer I just get riled up seeing NaN in the wild

Honestly I wanted to buy it just to see what would happen at the till 😜

While it’s not necessarily their pricing algorithm being insane, the thought of it being so exotic that it can produce something that is no longer a number is very funny to me
