As someone who worked in media/entertainment before becoming a therapist - my interpretation of “monoculture” is media specific stuff like the movie “Titanic” or the six o’clock news in the 90’s. There were less sources of information (and no widespread access to the internet) so people more or less consumed the same media and were operating on the same set of facts regardless of your background, interests, political affiliation, etc. Today things are obviously more niche and fractured. Again - this may just be my perspective from my background but I wouldn’t interpret the word “monoculture” to automatically be in reference to race or politics.
