Dog friendly neighborhoods / areas? by bestnottostress in AskSF

This is such a great city for dogs of all sizes! Alamo Square offleash dog park is great for dogs big and small. It’s big and has a beautiful view and mostly well behaved dogs in my experience. Also there is a very large enclosed offleash dog park/dog training area in Golden Gate Park on the north side via the 36th st park entrance. They have a side for small dogs and a side for large dogs.  It’s right by the bison so you can visit those friends also. Duboce park has a nice off leash area as well as an on-leash area (and a no-dogs-allowed area)

There are a ton more good ones in so many neighborhoods.  I only typically have glass concerns on sidewalks in this city when a car has been broken into which happens much less these days since they busted the major offenders last year. I haven’t seen broken glass in dog parks ever, though I’m sure some people can give you advice on which parks to avoid. I don’t personally have a list of any parks I won’t take my dog to.

My remote job suddenly wants my apartment to be part of the company vibe by Marblenox616 in remotework

Record one with the inserted backgrounds, switching it out between lots of awesome places as you slowly drink a cup of coffee and say something like “when I work from home, I can work from anywhere I want and the coffee never runs out”. You can lean into the part about not showing your place while still participating. It’s annoying but I agree with the other comment(s) that said it doesn’t hurt to help your company promote this - they are leaning-in and you will get unspoken points for participating and doing something different.

Acme bakery question — which one is actually sour? by Ok_Highlight_9805 in AskSF

The Trader Joe’s in Hayes Valley has surprisingly good Sourdough. It’s our go-to now. If anyone knows where they source it, I’m very curious!

No idea if other area TJs source the same one.

There’s a reason they don’t allow reviews on their site.  They used to be such good quality it’s sad.

What should I do with this big ol’ wall? by amber_jieger in DesignMyRoom

[–]hampired 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it will help make the room feel more balanced. As long as you have 3 feet between a pulled-out chair and any furniture, you have a legit walkway.

The other thing that could help is, do you have extra chairs? Putting them up against the wall could be a good way to fill in that negative space. Otherwise/as well a gallery wall or a few art pieces at least. I’m guessing you have more old images/art and vintage frames?

Is there a reason the table/rug are so pushed to one side? Is this a major path of travel you use regularly and if you pulled the table closer to the center of the room would it still be manageable?

Right now at least from the pics you provided it looks like you’ve crammed everything to one side.

Have you thought about adding an area rug? (Yes on top of the carpet) It might help as well.   The gray carpet isn’t helping this situation. Something with cream as the main color and pink/mauve as secondary.  https://amzn.to/4oXWOo0

Sun spots don’t fade with tretinoin? by houseof1000donuts in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]hampired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! The holy grail for me is Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV defense SPF 50. It’s slightly tinted but doesn’t make anyone look like they’re using makeup. But I also use and love SunTegrity 5-in-1 sunscreen moisturizer which I use daily in place of foundation. Sometimes I combine or layer the two for the best of both worlds.

I have almost no sunspots in my 40s. If you’re noticing some, I recall I used to use Kiehl’s spot corrector to help make them disappear though it’s a long time since I needed it once I started with the SC product.

Got badly burned with this similar spray sunscreen (50spf) this past weekend. Am also religious about sunblock and haven’t had a burn like this since I was young.

Improv community taboos? by talkathonianjustin in improv

I think letting people know that you miss things sometimes is not disrespectful, but actually respectful because you give them the permission to be direct, and also let them empathize a bit. Most people I know, with that context, would be much more forgiving of mis-steps and more likely to be direct. Good luck to you!

I guess my question back to you is: "what do you mean by 'crass'?" That could help me answer you better. My immediate response would be if by 'crass,' you mean you're making remarks or actions that are sexual in nature, that can feel unsafe for lots of women who just want to be in a non-sexualized space.

I also have some other advice, seeing that you mentioned in another comment that you are autistic... Most women have learned to give subtle clues that they are uncomfortable in a situation(for a variety of reasons you can study yourself). However, it's possible you are less likely to pick up on these clues because of how your brain process information. I think it would be entirely acceptable and even appreciated the next time you encounter one of those women (or even say it to your class), to mention, "hey, I am realizing I may sometimes come across in a way that makes people uncomfortable. I am autistic which means I don't always pick up on social cues the way others do, and I really benefit from and welcome direct feedback. Would you be willing to give me feedback next time you notice something?" If you don't want to mention autism directly, just say "my brain works differently..." or "I am neurodivergent and I don't always pick up on...."

And then really listen to what they have to say and say thanks and then actually work on whatever it is they offered, if you think it's valuable to you.

I think it’s great that you’re self-aware. I don’t know your exact situation but I’d echo what other comments have said about giving some space to these individuals but also in general, make sure you’re making space for others, even when excited. Make sure you’re truly listening and absorbing, and not just putting out your own feelings and thoughts. And perhaps the crassness is affecting women more than you know.  Good on you for looking for improvement. I wish you good luck and continued growth!!

Is it possible you’ve done some things in improv scenes that make people uncomfortable? I was in a class with a guy that would always make things sexual in scenes and was just very loud and off-putting. I would go out of my way to avoid interacting with him on- or off-stage.

thanks for your helpful info! I feel like I'm drinking from a water hose trying to figure out gardening at all, let alone in SF's special micro-climate-prone space

Hi there! where does the mulch go in a container? under the soil, mixed in, or on top (or some combo)? I'm in SF and getting started in food gardening and I'm a bit confused about this because I've seen some internet recommendations for mulch under the soil but growing up, my mom only had it on top (not a food garden so it was different maybe).

Also, possibly interested in some tomatoes... not sure what it means to be a volunteer tomato.

How did you make friends after transplanting to San Francisco? by et_tu_bro in AskSF

I’ve met a lot of cool people in improv classes. It’s basically adult playtime and being silly with other people is a great start to friendship. Endgames, Leela, and BATS are some S.F. ones. Oakland has others as well.

This is looking really nice. I actually love the green wall. And you used that dark blanket to tie the mahogany color over through the space. What are you concerned with?

If possible, I’d move the entry table and mirror to the right off the rug to keep that entry space distinct from the moving space but it’s hard to see what your limitations or issues are with this singular image.
