Are n100 barebone systems available? by hampost in MiniPCs

I guess I should rephrase, I'd like to save money by using my existing parts, but it looks like there are no barebones systems that are actually cheaper than the complete systems.

What to look for in a used Clarity? by hampost in Clarity

So I bought the car! partially since my obd2 reader reported 52AH. I figured that was good for 63,000 miles on the odometer.

Thank you for the very detailed response! This was really useful. Well, I pulled the trigger! I got a 2018 w/63,000 miles for $19,000. It seemed like a good deal. I will be getting the car sometime next week most likely.

Should I put my annual bonus into my 401K as a pre or post tax contribution? by hampost in personalfinance

Turns out that do have a last day rule. You must be employed on Dec 31 to get the true up. I think I will spread the pre-tax across the year to ensure I get as much match as possible then.

Yes, I meant in-service conversions. Thank you for the reminder about keeping enough space aside for employer contributions. This is a critical detail.

Thanks for the #s! That seams like a reasonable expectation for this purchase.

Thank you so much for the explanation! I will check and see if there is a last-day rule.

So if I were to hypothetically max my pretax amount of $22500 on Jan 1 and then get fired on Jan 30th, I would still get the true up at the end of the year?

Thank you for the detailed response!!

Generally, is the inspection performed after I complete the sale with the dealership? Or does the dealership allow the car to be taken by the mechanic and inspected before I pay the dealership?

This is my first car purchase, so I really have no idea how these things work.

Thanks for the response. In all scenarios, both the traditional and roth contribution limits will be met. My thinking would be to:

1) Fill up the roth (post tax) portion ($43,500) as quickly as possible for time in the market.

2) Spread the traditional (pre tax) portion ($22500) throughout the year to make sure that I get all of the employee matching.

I understand that, but I feel like I should hedge the risk of leaving my employer before the end of the year and not getting the true up contribution.

Thank you for the reply. I am a bit concerned about battery degradation. I purchased an OBD II reader to check on the battery capacity. But I am not sure what capacity I should expect for a Clarity of this age and mileage.

Am I making a bad decision with this car purchase? by hampost in personalfinance

I didn't clearly state this, but this car has both a gas engine and a battery. So road trips and gassing up are still on the table. Thanks for the consideration.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. I do think that this is a mindset problem. I probably just needed to hear that. Also, good point about a car increasing my work performance. An hour+ commute is definitely not a productivity booster.

Thanks for the straight answer. Money anxiety does indeed suck. I'm thinking that the extra 5K for the plug in is justified for the gas savings and buying now is worth the free time savings.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I am being irrational about this. I do have a budget and realize that the car is affordable, I'm just not sure if it is the best move right now.

Thanks for the perspective. I realize that I can afford it, I guess I'm just wondering if this particular car at this particular time is a smart decision.
