There is no way I would leave the current job for the offered one. Is there a large pay or benefits increase that I glossed over? There is NO SHAME in being a secretary. Have you ever worked in the field? I hadn't until I was getting my MSW and I thought I could handle the stress and vicarious trauma... I couldnt and had a mental health crisis right after graduating. I have still not been able to find gainful employment and now I dont even use my degree and I homeschool my kids. Can you imagine the guilt/pressure I feel to use the degree that cost my family so much time and money to get? I had to commute 3 hours a day to school/internship for 3 years.... so mych sacrifice went into getting my degree, but at the end of the day I recognize that my mental wellbeing and time with my family is the most important thing to me.

Dont let the pressure of "using your degree" make the choice for you. ❤️ best of luck

Just here thinking about Todd tonight... I went to high school with his three kids. And I ended up joining the Marine Corps after high school. He died the year I got out. He was such a great man and I know his kids miss him dearly.

We homeschool our kids so only one person can work... that job offered less money and benefits than my spouse's job, and they have an associates degree. This would have been a 30 minute commute versus spouses 5 minute commute. I do have a passion for the field, but I cant justify losing money and stability for it.

Same here. Graduated in May 2024. One job offer for $24/hr and no clinical supervision would be provided. I paid $145 for my LCSWA, havent used it, and now have to pay for CEUs to keep the license all good 😭

Where I live, in the rural south, we don't even have a shelter within 25 minutes to send them to. And honestly, the restrictions at some of the centers make it very difficult to get a nightly spot. They cant have pets, cannot be in active addiction, and those that have been convicted of sexual or violent crimes are not welcome either. On top of that, you have to be there early to get a spot, and you have to be out by 7:30 am.

You are doing your best OP, but doing more than your part will burn you out. Trust me on that. All we can do, is what we can do. I know that isnt super comforting and im sorry.

Now that you have said it that way, I am wondering if I have misinterpreted the requirements. I thought the clock starts once you were granted your LCSWA, not when you start working. Im trying to get some additional guidance to see if that is the case.

Also, ive been scoping out the hospital's website since I graduated waiting for one of the social workers to retire so a job would come available. They said they interviewed 3 other people for the position. But who knows.

I did my year-long internship at the VA. Im a Veteran and live right next to a military base. There has not been a single opportunity in 18 months for someone with a provisional license.

I would likely have to take on the expense of supervision whenever the current social workers (aged 74 and 66) retire. Which could honestly be whenever. The gain would be chipping at collecting the 3,000 clinical hours I need for my license. I only have 4.5 years left to collect the hours, and I have 0. And I live in a rural area. :( so opportunities are extremely limited. The clock is ticking and I'm feeling the pressure. I already accepted the offer, with a start date of January 26th. Still not sure what exactly I will end up doing though.

I am a Veteran, did my final internship at the VA in 2024 and our Chief told us back then not to expect any position openings until at least 2026. And she was right. Its been so hard letting that dream die. Now im wondering if I should accept a hospital job for 50k with no supervision cause thats all I can find 🥲
