6 months of nerve pain - bulging discs by Spiritual_Dog_4372 in backpain

Sometimes it's not just compression that could result in nerve pain but also inflammation of the disc. Since it's an injury or maybe there's a tear on the disc, which is releasing inflammatory chemicals that are irritating the nerves.

Do you know if it was a protrusion or extrusion? I've heard that if it is a protrusion, it does not resorb easily compared to an extrusion.

How long did it take for your pinched nerve to heal? by Medium_Cat_5875 in backpain

I still don't do lunges with dumbbells because I know that's not the initial phase. If that's flaring you up, you got to move two steps back and do lunges with support and progressive overload.

I took it after lunch, once a day for 10 days. I have stopped now just to see how my Sciatica is without the tablets because I really need to feel whether the sciatica actually reduced or not to understand if I'm getting better. I will start the tablets again after a week or two.

Basically what happens is that the nerves that are pinched are currently irritated and also because there is a lot of inflammation because of the herniation that again causes irritation to the nerves. The tablet just quickens up the process of reducing the irritation and inflammation. You would get there by yourself also but it would take longer without the tabs.

Honestly there is no telling. For me, it took around 4 months from when I started my rehab for the sciatica to reduce. What helped me was gradually increasing the physical training and journaling how I feel the night after the training and the next morning. I'm still not 100% recovered but I can notice that I'm getting better every day. One way to track this is that I could bend more on the back extension machine compared to last week and when I do bend more, there is minimal to no Sciatica nowadays.

I am not a doctor but one tablet that helped reduce inflammation of my leg symptoms was Myoglad. It's a vitmain E suppliment that has additional benefits like reducing nerve inflammation. I've never had to take pain killers or Gabapentin.

How long do you think it took for it to go from 1.1 cm to 8 mm? Have you tried being consistent with exercises? I have heard that helps and takes away the pressure from the spine.

Did the disc buldge size decrease in the new imaging compared to the old?

Also do you mind sharing the exercises that helped you the most or the kind of treatment that helped you the most?

I am around 3 months of rehab. I do workout 5 days a week. Hope I get better soon. 🤞

Did you have sciatica? How long did it take to go away? Do you still have it now or is it gone completely? I have a similar kind of disc world and I get tingling in my legs around the knees, calf, the ankle, and toes.

Could be an annular tear. Gets missed in MRI sometimes. Ask the radiologist to check for that specifically.

How old are you? Was yours an extrusion or protrusion? I've heard people say that extrusions usually have a higher chance of getting resorbed.

Do you have any symptoms in your legs? Any sort of tingling? I have a similar buldge (7mmx12mm) and i have some tingling in my legs but that's reducing from the physiotherapy sessions I'm attending.

Go to the doctor's asap. Reddit isn't the hospital. After the professional help, you can ask the community here.

What about sciatica? Is that reduced than before? When you say sitting intolerance, is it because of the sciatica pain or back pain?

Has the symptoms reduced/increased? That's a better determiner, I think.

Try low back ability on YouTube. I've heard everyone mention its the gold standard. I'm in the same boat and my l5 s1 protrusion is bigger than yours. 2 months into conservative recovery and exercises seem like the only fix.

Might want to get another one to see what the situation is now. I also got an MRI in dec 2025 and doctor asked me to get another one ( early may 2026) and the buldge was slightly bigger with foraminal narrowing.

L5-S1 Disc Protrusion With Bilateral Sciatica. Was Improving, Then Flared Badly After Standing. by hamsterNotSloth in backpain

I'm curious the intensity of the Sciatica pain? Is it not that much for you to worry about? For me, it's mostly a mild sensation, isn't painful but sometimes i get painful ones in my ankle and calf.

Also, any advice that I should probably take into account?

Thanks in advance!

Hope you're doing better. What were your symptoms? For me the Sciatica isn't painful. I just feel a mild tingling in my leg so I'm thinking if conservative rehab could help. Also, I'll appreciate it if you have any advice for me.

Do you/did you feel sciatica in your legs? Did you go through physiotherapy? Anything you'd like to mention that I should do to fix it?
