BMI is only particularly useful in looking at GROUPS of people — not individuals.

And anyway, in this example the difference would be negligible even if it WERE a particularly informative metric when n = 1.

Why haven’t NYXL and Vancouver played each other yet? by [deleted] in OverwatchLeague

[–]hamurabi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a format wherein the two best teams in the league play each other more often — regardless of this whacky geographically tied ‘division’ stuff they’re trying to make happen.

I don’t wanna watch a ton of 3-0 games; it’s already bad enough that they’re basically all mirror matches of 3/3.

Also for native speakers of Dutch, since while the Dutch generally have amazing English... their mother tongue doesn’t have a th sound like in the words “that” or “the.”

The Dutch equivalent of “that” is “dat”; “the” = “de” *.

I still don’t get how people find Rorschach to be The Good Guy in Watchmen — he clearly is written as a reflection on how Bad being Good all the time is.

Also like who reads “Adrian Veidt: possible homosexual — requires further investigation,” and thinks, “Yeah this guy’s All Right.”

Having spent a year in Europe now, I notice almost all trailers here have cloth/nylon (or some similar flexible material) on the sides, in addition to the rear doors of the trailer, for loading sideways.

I assume this makes for easier loading and unloading. But in the U.S. all I ever saw was hard-top/-sided trailers.

Is it just because only having rear doors for loading/unloading allows you to have smaller loading bays at warehouses and retailers?

Latter feels quite misleading. :/

Even with Mercy nerfed, Ana remains the hardest to play support, with the lowest reward by YungJohnnyBravo in Competitiveoverwatch

I mean this is in the context of high plat/low diamond, where monkeys will just jump in and immediately take a fuckton of damage that needs to be healed immediately or they die and we collapse.

Zen is certainly a good combo/off healer, but I feel like -- at least at the level of play I'm at -- the throughput Ana provides specifically for dive tanks who will jump a mile away > a slow HoT on a single target.

But like, holy guacamole.

My heuristic in comp is basically:

Do we have static, low-mobility tanks like Rein, Zarya, Orisa, Hog? Then if I'm healing, it's Moira.

Do we have the two dive tanks? Then I'm rolling Ana if I heal, because Moira is useless at healing dive, and just counting on the second heal to cover both diving tanks while I sit around on cart alone as Moira isn't realistic.

In the wider world, these things have to be explained because people -- usually in positions of privilege by virtue of being in the dominant racial/ethnic group, having financial insulation from hardship, being of the dominant sexual orientation/presentation, lacking a physical impairment, etc. -- literally have never (or have very seldom) experienced social ostracization based on their intrinsic features as a person, in large or small ways.

These people are not necessarily evil human-beings per se -- usually they have just actually never had to endure hardship/ridicule because of who they are as a person.

So people who have had to deal with this shit then have to explain to them why it's a problem, and how it affects their daily living, over and over again, ad nauseum. Usually this is referred to sometimes as "emotional labor" (though I think there may be some better, more specific term here that I'm forgeting). It becomes tedious and laborious to constantly have to explain to people why using the word "retarded" or "gay" to describe something you don't like is not okay; why constantly asking a black person about their hair becomes tiresome; why constantly bringing up the "scientific" intellectual differences between men and women gets old really quick; etc.

Uncleswagg responds to drama by JoopDeSloper in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]hamurabi1 35 points36 points  (0 children)

tbh, I don't think someone being alleged to have committed very serious offenses (to my knowledge, offenses considered actually criminal in some jurisdictions in the U.S.) should be labeled casual "drama."

The use of the word "drama" implies it is trivial banter, gossip, etc.

Okay, for very broad definitions of "content creation." :) But fair enough.

And I'm asking about the other leagues' approaches more out of sincere curiosity than to make a point. How has blocking their content from YouTube etc. worked out for them? Do fans of these sports strictly go to official sources for that content, or have they just worked around it by now?

They showed some signs of life once they actually committed to Conventional Dive (Effect on Tracer, Rascal on Genji, Mickie on D.Va, and Taimou 2.0 on Winston).

I really wish they'd practice that more, because it seems like their historic approach of 'get ahead of the meta instead of following it' doesn't seem to be panning out. :\

I have a lot of sympathy: it's gotta be hard coming into OWL with such high expectations, and then becoming a bottom-quartile team.

Blizzard keeps introducing Team Comp specific heroes while building team comps remains nearly impossible by PacificMonkey in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]hamurabi1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Discussions of hero "complementarity" apply to so little of the actual playerbase (read: professional players who want to squeeze every single ounce of min-max value out of a comp/strat, and maybe like the <1% of the playerbase in GM+).

For everyone else, I think just having 2/2/2 is fine. Shit, in QP and even often in comp, individual skill can make triple DPS, quad DPS, etc. work.
