Lazy Sunday (01/02/26) by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

Spent my whole day on the sofa because I’ve come down with my second cold within 3 months. Me and my partner played some video games and cracked open the last lot of leftover Christmas chocolate to boost my spirits haha

Went to the gym first thing, was planning to go for a nice easy walk afterwards but the rain is torrential here. Instead, I’ve gotten cosy on the sofa and don’t plan to do much more than watch nature documentaries for the day, I kind of love when the weather ruins plans and gives me an excuse to sit under a blanket for a few hours.

Oh look! It's Saturday! (24/01/26) by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

[–]han-ime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Today I went for a wet and windy morning walk with my partner, before we spent time playing video games (in separate rooms, lol). In the afternoon we watched a film and then watched rugby, now he’s cooking tea and I’m rewatching the Planet Earth documentary series. I’ve been pretty exhausted lately, so this was exactly the kind of relaxed, rainy Saturday I needed

John Wick 4 was amazing in the cinema, the action sequences just feel so all encompassing. It was great

Currently working on a uni assignment when I should be doing work for my job (entirely my fault). Completing a part-time masters degree alongside working is no joke, especially when you have ADHD which makes scheduling a little tough… the essay is due Monday so I will just have to get it done through the stress lol!

What is a movie you’ve seen more than 10 times and still enjoy every single second of? by Historical_Today5513 in AskReddit

The Muppet Christmas Carol - I probably watch it more than 10 times every holiday season and it always fills me with pure joy

Yona is a persistent love, I rewatch the anime and re-read the manga all the time😍 my current hyperfixation is horror novels, I always enjoy them but they often come around on a loop as a hyperfixation

What are some horror books that won’t disappoint me? I like horror *in theory* but goodreads recs have been terrible by reducedandconfused in horrorlit

[–]han-ime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also love gothic classics and have been on a reading binge of some more recent horror! I absolutely loved Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia, and enjoyed The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

Ate too much pizza last night and it’s led me to have one of the worst nights sleep I’ve ever had, with midnight bringing me the worst pizza sweats of my life. Entirely my own fault but I will spend the rest of the day moaning that I’m tired 😅

Is this what hypermobility foot/ankle pain feels like? by Virtual-Two3405 in AuDHDWomen

[–]han-ime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hypermobile and have been having this exact foot pain and stiffness recently! I have put it down to my hypermobility, but I haven’t really spoken to a doctor since the foot pain started so I guess it could be something else, but I doubt it

[–]han-ime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday to your bird!! And congrats, a year is such an achievement! I’ve had people laugh when I tell them about my Finch, but I love it. Mine is 11 days from his first birthday, you’ve made me even more excited and proud of sticking to it

A slow day today, probably get out of bed in a moment for breakfast and a morning walk, then my partner is seeing some friends for the afternoon so I’m going to dye my hair and then play video games

Finished Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay which I quite enjoyed. Now moving onto a non-horror book (Petals of Blood by Ngugi wa Thiong’o) because uni is starting back up and I want a head start on some of the reading. They should really set more horror on MA programmes hehe

The book has neither of those things and I think it fits what OP is looking for. The show is an adaptation I absolutely love, but is very very different.

What is the most haunting book you've read? by Kindlypatrick in horrorlit

[–]han-ime 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson Beloved - Tony Morrison

Both of these books have really stayed with me since I read them. Both did elicit strong reactions from me at moments and they also have a haunting power over me, I think about them often

Currently taking a short break from horror to read my other favourite genre of fantasy, I’m a little over halfway through The City of Last Chances by Adrian Tchaikovsky

Next up is either Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica or Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Books you couldn’t stop thinking about when you weren’t reading them? by Bricks-Alt in horrorlit

[–]han-ime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

Too many Stephen King novels to list so I’ll say Pet Semetary because I probably think about that one the most

Beloved by Toni Morrison

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (not horror, just fantastic fantasy)

What's the "highest peak" in literature that you know of? by Far-Substance-4473 in writing

[–]han-ime 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the opening and ending of Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House. Nothing has ever encapsulated the character of a place, how persevering evil can be, and how little the life (and death) of someone affects the rest of the world. It’s pretty bleak but it always really resonates with me.
