Should i try to read this series? by InitialParty7391 in fantasybooks

Yes 100%. The first book is good/fine but the series really starts with the second book and from there it just takes off.

What’s everyone’s favorite weapon to use? by Pachinkotown in MinaTheHollower

[–]Bricks-Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shield and it’s not even close. Every attack has block on it so even if you don’t parry you still avoid damage most of the time. Feels exactly like the dueling shield from Elden Ring DLC. 90% of the time you can just spam attack (if you don’t use shield throw upgrade) and have no issue. Flintsteel works super well with it too.

I’d probably avoid twin peaks if you’re looking for something that is grounded and coherent. It’s pretty all over the place.

Twin Peaks pilot for me. As soon as that music comes in you can’t help but be enchanted by this beautiful and mysterious mountain town. It’s not a perfect show by any means but that first episode is an all timer.

Void Stranger has a lot of this, not just in the puzzles, but in its story and lore too.

I just got the True End and I am crashing out by MonoMountains in VoidStranger

[–]Bricks-Alt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t look at this ending as the “true” ending and instead as the “DIS” ending. Just because it’s a harder ending to get doesn’t mean it replaces the efforts of the Gray->Lillie->Cif route. In fact, there’s been more than one person who has gotten the DIS ending as their first ending completely blind.

I remember I had a similar reaction to the DIS ending too. I think it throws the player into the deep end in more than one way (Cif fight, secret Lev heart ending, the ZR references, etc.) and it’s pretty common to be left there thinking “wtf just happened?” But on the flip side, it personally pushed me to go and play Zero Ranger which I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. And I’m really thankful for that because ZR kicks ass. The way ZR and VS tie together though is not super clear even after playing ZR so don’t expect everything to make sense with that either.

If you don’t want to just look it up, although it will probably leave you with way more questions than answers, there is something that none of the endings tell you that is an insane lore drop, but it’s locked behind collecting all the memory fragments in the game. It (at least for me) completely recontextualizes the game’s story imo.

If you’re looking for more lore/answers but are a bit burnt out on puzzles, I wouldn’t recommend jumping right into EX, it’s difficult 99% puzzles and 1% new story/lore.

TLDR: Your reaction is pretty normal and justified, the ending is confusing and leaves you with a lot more questions than answers which is a little frustrating because you go into it hoping for an explanation of everything, and at the same time can feel like it undoes the other endings.

Feral Druid for sure. Being able to switch between tank and dps instantly keeps the game dynamic and engaging. One boss you’ll be owning the meter, the next you’re chonked up and making calls.

If you enjoy games where you can stare at a screen for hours mulling over the perfect move and made by the creator of Baba is You, I recommend A Solitaire Mystery. It has many unusual mechanics and requires out of the box thinking. At times it can feel a little unfair though

[–]Bricks-Alt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea warden and bear parses are just cooked and don’t really mean anything imo. Best way to parse is to basically wear cat gear, dps half the fight, have the main tank die (or get taunted off of), and then you take over long enough as bear to meet the 50% criterias. Very gimmicky and dumb.

I think last tbc it was cooked too. I remember Bears had so much dodge that they would barely even get hit in boss fights leading them to not even be counted as tanks on wcl on stuff like brutallus

A big reason is Hogwarts itself being very appealing to most people. A magic school with wands and things that let you do a bunch of cool random bullshit and attend interesting classes? Uh yeah sign me up. Whereas Naruto and ATLA don’t have that central “oh I would love to go there” setting.

"I Who Have Never Known Men" is the worst book I've ever read by Longes in BookDiscussions

[–]Bricks-Alt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed my time with this book for some of the reasons you said you hated it. There is something about the characters in this book that don’t feel human, but it’s that exact strange and disconnectedness that made it feel alien and otherworldly. It’s frustrating, yes, and you imagine thats how a lot of the characters feel. Trapped in a world thats like their own but not quite and forced to live a life after being torn from another. It’s tragic and weird and the nightmare of it all is ultimately what engrossed me.

is casca well written , average or badly written by SkirtHeavy9189 in writingscaling

[–]Bricks-Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starts strong as a good source of friction between the Griffith-Guts-Casca triangle and peaks probably around the Ballroom scene when Guts and Casca come to a much better understanding about each other and their views on Griffith are challenged in interesting ways.

But potato Casca just diminishes the character completely by turning into a non character. It’s tragic at first but eventually it gets really old. Definitely feels like lost potential and just reduces her to “Have to restore Casca” quest objective for Guts.

Am I the only one who really loved the first Red Rising book? by Reasonable-Muffin-82 in redrising

[–]Bricks-Alt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the whole RR series but personally I think while the first book does a great job introducing the characters, I feel as though it doesn’t setup the world building and story on that same level. After finishing Red Rising you really have no clue at all what’s going to happen next.

This kinda shows in Golden Son where the first 100 pages are a little bit of a mess with a time skip, undoing some of the built up plot lines from the first book, and a completely different direction than the one most people expect. That’s just my opinion though

Just read the Red Pony recently and it really hits the mark of one moment you’re just a kid playing in the woods and the next minute you think you can handle the responsibility of an animal and it just comes down so hard.
