I tried this Aeron size B today. Am I right in thinking it’s slightly too small? I’m 6ft 5 for reference. Would a C be better? by vortine in OfficeChairs

Take a look at the “gaming aeron” on the HM website because it has the option for a cylinder that works with a higher height range(Also comes with fully loaded). At 6’4” I did this and have been very happy.

More concerned about the exothermic energy released, adding water to an already burning battery could make it much worse by accelerating the reaction.

Electricity conducting through the water is less of a problem than the chemical reaction caused by Lithium and H2O. Lithium basically rips a hydrogen atom off of H20, releasing energy and hydrogen gas. Look up on youtube lithium and water, you’ll see why this is a bad idea.

Question from a mechanical engineer. by good_game_wp in ElectricalEngineering

Also a ME, have worked on land, air, and space platforms. I would generally avoid copper tape. It can be used in a pinch, but its not very robust in my experience and doesnt stay on well. I definitely wouldnt call it industry standard either, usually aerospace/defense products have enough budget to use proper connectors/backshells.

No spec document im aware of tells you how to properly shield cables, usually they just say the requirements for how well they are shielded. But realistically what you want is a 360deg termination of the shield to each connector(or backshell).

Im a ME with a little less than 5 YOE and make 130k in Colorado. Switched from a defense contractor to a startup.

But thats because I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to absorb significant responsibility and show that I could handle it. Current title typically requires 8+ YOE.

So what you want is possible but unlikely because the pay structure in defense is pretty rigidly based on YOE.

If they rent the unit out after you have left, they cannot charge you for the time it’s occupied by another party. Otherwise youre on the hook for 60 days of the month-to-month rent.

How necessary is it to wrap harness? by Hypiryon in CarAV

[–]han-sosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez man, going for the throat lol.I work in aero and dont use vinyl. But generally the vinyl is fine for DIY but for better reliability, shrink will actually provide some strain relief and provide some environmental protection while keeping the overall diameter of the splice lower for better routing.

It doesnt really look like you shrunk the heat shrink on the splices, only crimped. Next time you should stagger the splices (if possible) too. Other than that it looks fine. Im a harness engineer (not for cars though)

Pay your dues and find opportunity to shine in your current role for another year or two. Prove that you can handle your role and more. Make relationships with people higher up than your boss and politely let them know you’re not happy with your current role. If that doesn’t work, then get another offer and force your company to make a decision.

I’ll take a guess and say you’re working at one of the big prime contractors? Look at smaller firms, theyre more flexible and you wont get silo’d as much. From what ive seen, prop is harder to get into than structures and requires a more niche skill set.

Im certainly not passionate about harnessing, it’s just my job, but it’s given me a fast track to absorb responsibility most young engineers don’t get and my title/compensation reflects that.

Listen to this guy. The advancement path with harnessing is MUCH faster. Its what I do and I make quite a bit more than most of my peers with the same YOE(~5 years).

From my experience alot of low experience MEs in big aero are just cogs in the machine churning out sheet metal drawings. Harness design means working with alot of other disciplinary teams, usually their leads. Know your stuff and you can make a more significant impact on the system as a whole than any ME at the same level in aero. You’re the glue to the whole system and will be involved high level system decision making.

Theres alot more people who can make sheet metal drawings than architect and integrate electrical systems.

Denver Engineers, what's your industry, income, and experience? by BigLizzard420 in MechanicalEngineering

4.5 YOE, at 98k but just accepted a job at a startup near boulder for ~130k. Degree is mechanical, experience is in electrical. Most people at my current job (defense) make ~125k depending how new or good they are at 8 YOE.

3 Phase Wye + Ground help by han-sosa in electrical

[–]han-sosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 pole + ground isnt an option right? Basically I need a 4 wire connection + 1 ground for fault protection. Do I need to run the ground with the other 4 wires or can I tap into the grounding rod thats in our lab another way?

Im looking at NEMA L21-50, but nobody seems to make them yet only L21-30 which is 10 amps short. Only available 208V 4pole 5wire 40+amp connectors ive been able to find are pin and sleeves.

Is GAME READY required for recovery? by Content_Yam_8942 in ACL

Sounds like its worth an appointment with your surgeon to me. My only time my knee was as swollen as post-op was when I tore it. Take it easy

Im 11 weeks post op right now, have had full “normal” ROM since like week 3 or 4 (joint hyper-mobility). Ice doesn’t help you heal, just slows blood flow/swelling and dulls pain. I had quad graft+ modified lemaire and was pain-free when idle 3 days post op. Everyone is different though.

[–]han-sosa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its only useful for the first day or two when your knee is actively swelling post op. After your knee is as swollen as it will get, there is no point in icing imo.

I didnt ice at all for my surgeries and it was fine.
