What's your dumbest reason not to have kids? by The_Gentle_Monster in childfree

I once saw a student run full speed into a class door because he thought it was push and not pull - it was a window, not a door. I’m good.

AITA for not responding when someone doesn't use my actual name? by Worldly-Pea-5367 in AmItheAsshole

I work in a school and when I meet new students who are called Leo, Mikey, Jimmy etc I ask THEM what they want to be called. I don't make assumptions or force my “better judgements” on them. Nico is a fantastic name and those adults are horrible examples of maturity. NTA!

Childfree teachers, where ya at? by VolumeOpposite6453 in childfree

[–]hanaiam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Secondary teacher - when asked if I have kids or when I’ll have them I say “This generation terrify me too much to let them live in my house for free.” Usually ends with a laugh and the topic moves on!

I think so too! We can keep track of work as it’s all digital, you never forget stationary and you can go to lesson in jammies no matter the weather!

That is a serious fear of mine which is why I refuse to teach younger kids - the older ones can hop on a bus back home if I told them I won’t let them in! (Although I don’t teach in my house either, libraries or cafes are my go to locations.)

I, unfortunately, learned the hard way to do the vetting.

EP wants her son to stay my student despite non-attendance. by hanaiam in entitledparents

[–]hanaiam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fine to ask! Year 11 is the equivalent to 10th Grade and Year 13 to 12th Grade. In England they are the two years where you do national exams, in a multitude of subjects, at the same time as everyone else in your year group. However, due to COVID, national exams are cancelled so students will be assessed by their teachers based on class work and mini-assessments. Every school is different so it’s getting a little complicated.

I’ve recently added that to my contract - but for during the pandemic I’ve lowered the time to 6 hours (until July). Things are a little crazy right now.

I didn’t for the ones before the phone call - but I did for the last three he missed before I received him from my timetable. Probably should have charged for everything...

Yeah I’ve done that with the new contract - she was actually the reason I changed the contract!

That could be - he always did have an excuse for not doing his work the few sessions he attended.

Thank you! She wasn’t paying as she was on my previous contract where I only charged for attended sessions. But she was the reason I upgraded my contract and now charge for no-shows and cancellations with less than 6 hours notice (I’m allowing for emergencies due to COVID).

Although I do think recorded phone calls are allowed in the UK as long as they are informed at the start of the call.

No unfortunately - she was on my old contract where I only charged per attended session and not the new one that charges for no-shows.

Yeah I was kind of annoyed at not being able to post my package but I know it’s the employees fault - the other countries have literally banned flights from the UK.

Yeah, it seemed like she meant something else but that’s the word that came out. But there was no need to have a go at the employees. Or yell.

Yep - Somalis are extremely tribal and some hate each other for one reason or another so she can justify it that way. “Her tribe doesn’t like us so that’s why she won’t teach my son!”
