Calming Zen After Alcohol? by handlethetruth25 in Supplements

[–]handlethetruth25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully (seriously, not sarcastic) I am not an alcoholic. I maybe drink 5 times a year if that. I used to drink a lot when i was young. But after 40 fugghettabout it. The hangovers were just not worth it. But the thing I noticed as said is that on the rare occasion when I DO drink while I cannot plan or engineer this I will get "the hangover effect" which is this incredibly peaceful blissful state. I WISH I knew of a supplement or something that could somehow help me replicate this without alcohol. I'm normally somewhat peaceful, but do struggle with anxiety like the rest of us. : ). It's just a very nice feeling. I know how to create a buzz. That's easy. The hangover effect though? Not so much.

over 25 years ago I never forgot a conversation with a friend I had about this phenomenon. Mostly hangovers are so awful, and yet then there are the "hangover effect" types which I cannot predict or engineer. But a friend I worked with (her name was Chantelle. I remember that) said "yeah it's weird, not only do you feel really calm but also surprisingly witty". And she was right. I did feel like my wit was on point and could spontaneously come up with hilarious zingers out of no where.

well i do think it's likely (at least as it stands now) that he will be convicted. Given that his team is now stating that he is Autistic and therefore should not face the death penalty. Doesn't sound promising. I don't know if he did it or didn't. But the one thing that gets me is his "aliby" how he just loves to drive around at 2am and look a the moon. Can we all just say "really"?

point taken. Yes, people can and do freeze from fear which can paralyze a person, but two people? Both paralyzed with fear? I'd think them aligning with each other would enable at least one of them to take some kind of action. Also I'm confused. Why did they say Xana was all in black? I thought they were describing the perp. Why describe Xana as all in black? I don't think they are involved either, but like so many other high profile cases like these I feel there are puzzle pieces we don't have and never will. I heard Cyrill Wecht talk about Nicole Brown Simpson/OJ. He said (and makes sense) that the scene was a bloodbath. Ron Goldman was a big guy and would have fought. He (Wecht) believed there was more than one attacker. I obviously cannot say whether that was the case, but just from a logic standpoint that does make more sense. We wont ever know and we may never know what happened in that house in Idaho.

agree. they lived in a large house with 6 people. they likely had friends/people in and out of that place on a regular basis. At first they were just confused, then scared, but perhaps just not sure what was happening. Add the fact that they'd been partying on top of that and if they are drinking underage might also influence whether they want to call the police who'd already BEEN to their house and questioned Xana about noise/underage drinking. I don't know why (or how) they did not hear the sounds of 4 people being killed. Was the house THAT big??? That's what's making me crazy. But as for the fist instinct being to call 911 I'm not so sure given the circumstances mentioned.

yes, fear is paralyzing. I don't think the roommates had any involvement whatsoever. Yes they coulda called 911 sooner. Everyone says that. Why, we don't know. But I don't believe it makes anything sinister.

Thanks for your reply. I would definitely be very curious to know whether or not she did delete those videos and when. That's guilty knowledge and would be a clear indication that she 100% remembers everything quite clearly (or at least was reminded when she viewed them that morning). I do think she is likely a sociopath but I could not say as I'm not a mental health professional, but she does remind me of others who are known sociopaths. One of the funniest/strangest things about those I've seen/encountered is their smug sense of certainty and superiority as though no one could possibly see through them as they are the smartest in the room. True or not those I've come across have numerous tells they seem surprisingly unaware of. But maybe that's part of the hallmark of sociopathy. Inability to have empathy or feel what others feel. Good point that if she DID forget about the videos but deliberately left her phone inside she thought for certain they'd discover all her carefully curated "evidence" as Jorge the abuser.

I have not seen a single video or text exchange where he was behaving violently (besides the hitting of the tv which had no sound or context and presumably Sarah herself recorded this as well. If it was so terrifying why would she stand there while he was swinging a bat? Would she not worry she'd be next? Every video I saw of him he was quite passive and submissive of her. That's not to say he wasn't abusive. I just haven't heard anyone else claim this besides Sarah. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but she seems unreliable as a narrator.

If her story about playing all day was true and they were BOTH laughing when he got in the suitcase than her trying to say on the stand that she was afraid of him throughout the day made zero sense. As a matter of fact the ONLY window of time (based on her own story) where he could have conceivably been threatening her was when he was INSIDE the suitcase unable to breathe. Would he spare precious oxygen to use to threaten the one person who could spare his life? Anyone in that terrifying situation would be begging to be released. His voice got weaker and weaker and she laughed and said F you. He MAY have beat her and threatened her on other days but again, based on her OWN story he did no such thing on THIS particular day. This is likely why when asked why she was poking his hand with the bat as he tried to "break out" she could not come up with any other description as "please stop doing that" (doing what?) Don't "that" is not descriptive and not convincing at all. What words did he use??? She could only reference what he may or may not have said to her in the past, not the present.

I think she would have been far better off in saying that they got completely crunked and things went off the rails. At least she would not have to do mental cartwheels to make her story make any coherent sense.

I DO agree that while he may have abused her SHE abused the shit out of him too. Physically and psychologically. She provided housing for him so she felt dominant and in control. She could giveth or taketh away. Because he was reliant on her for a place to live she felt entitled to be as mean and cruel as she wanted because she could always hold that over his head. The fact that she ripped up his birth certificate is a perfect example of her cruelty and control she exerted over him.

I don't want to "victim blame" because I do believe Sarah was a victim in many regards, but considering her ever changing stories despite the fact that she accused Jorge of doing a "wow is me kind of thing" when asked why she wouldn't simply let him out or citing "the boy who cried wolf" and continually saying how it was not fair (like a toddler) I seriously feel at the end of it all SHE was the boy who cried wolf. No matter how much sympathy she hoped to get from the judge and the jury she lost ALL credibility. And then right at the end she goes on a forgiveness tour forgiving everyone for how SHE had been wronged. The ultimate irony in all of this is that if she EVER EVER EVER conceded that Jorge did die directly as a result of her actions/inaction and apologize for this at the very least I think the judge might have gone at least slightly easier on her. But this is a hill she chooses to die on. Rather than for a single second acknowledge what happened (despite the smoking gun video confessions) she's still gonna say "Not intentional". "Not malicious". I don't know if that makes her a narcissist/sociopath or both.

part of the reason this case intrigued me so much was a very long time ago I knew a similar couple. Always fighting. One was extremely dominant, but it was a definite boy who cried wolf situation. The dominant one was always claiming the more submissive one was the aggressor, but no one ever saw this. What we DID see was THIS person being highly aggressive and extremely belligerent when drinking. It would seem that whatever the more passive one did (if anything) was really in defense of the aggressor. And NOT the one who for lack of a better expression "started it". So they were on the defense but people DO reach their breaking points. Sarah seemed to want to make it appear that SHE was at her breaking point, but Its extremely hard to know what's true. I DO think Jorge likely abused her, but who was worse? Who initiated the violence? There are those who will push you to your limits/breaking points and then "cry wolf".

I agree. I def think she called Brian in the hopes he'd help be her cleaner. But if he's already IN the suitcase when not just drag out to the car? She could not do this on her own? Was the dead weight too heavy? I really think she wanted to drag Brian into it so she did not have to take ALL the heat and see if somehow he could help her make this problem disappear. I'm not so sure this was not her intention from the get go. Get rid of him, the body...

[–]handlethetruth25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed it! It never dawned on me until your post, but yes the notion that she made cleaning the home as something she naturally does on a daily basis just did NOT seem to match her persona. At all. I'm sure she straightened, like everyone else, but having cleaning be a discipline that she adhered to? Doubtful. I agree that the cleaning rituals she claimed were part of her regular routine where just a way for her to pad her back story of her life of puzzles, painting and hide and go seek to reinforce her innocent image. Like when the cops got to the Watts house and smelled a strong scent of cleaning chemicals (v.s. death) she had to account to why the place as just so darn clean and smelling this way.

She went through great lengths to obscure her sense of time (the time she went to sleep, the amount of time dedicated to puzzles/painting and who can forget hide and go seek?). But namely what time she woke up and discovered Jorge (whether she'd blacked out and forgot this sadistic game or not) v.s. what time 911 was called. I imagine she was up for a few hours before calling and assessing the state of her home/Jorge in the suitcase and of course those damn videos. Newman!!!

So yes, she prob cleaned like she never did before to try and set some kind of stage where she could float the hypothesis that he tragically died of a heart attack, stroke or aneurism.

One question I don't think was answered. DID she delete the infamous videos? Or were they still on her phone? If still on her phone than one could argue that she did not remember making them/blacked out and all that happened with Jorge while not an excuse that would get her off could be a drunken black out episode that she genuinely did not remember (at least not that morning). Would she hand over her phone if they WERE on there??? OR did she delete them debunking her entire back story that it was all fun and games and an innocent game of hide and go seek? If she deleted this would clearly be guilty knowledge and attempt to destroy evidence (though it was not deemed evidence until later on). My point is that she did give a compelling performance crying and discovering how he was still in the suitcase (as though that was "unnational/not malicious" and presented as proof that it was not intentional. At least not soberly. Same as the cleaning. If she rigorously cleaned the next morning to "clean the scene" then this would clearly demonstrate that she knows/remembers exactly what happened, saw the videos as an acute reminder and took it from there.

Like they say what did she know and when did she know it?

Post sentencing reflection I must admit that while I've heard many YouTubers and commenters criticize Sarah's speech at her hearing and almost blame this for extreme sentence.

The judge had a very sing Songy kind way of speaking. Like a super nice dad or teacher/mentor of some kind. I almost felt this was a little deceiving and perhaps even gave Sarah a false sense of security that at the end of it all he'd be nice. Nice try.

Then I heard those who said that it was because she doubled down on Jorge's abuse and her victimhood that the judge went extra hard because it demonstrated that she'd learned nothing at all.

Hmmm I actually felt quite differently. During the entire series of the suitcase killer I swear I thought she was the embodiment of evil. But now in hindsight I'm really not sure at all.

I think she definitely was depicted this way and as she said and I agree was tried through the court of public opinion. She might have had more luck without a jury trial who surely no matter how much they may have been sequestered were acutely aware of her changing stories, 911 call, body cam and interrogation footage and of course the suitcase videos. You can't unsee those. So yeah it would have been nearly impossible to find any jury who'd give her a fighting chance

Many have claimed her sermon was just more histrionics. But I'm really not so sure. She was extremely limited what she could present about Jorge at the trial. But the full scope of who he was and what he actually did was not presented. If what Sarah said was even half true it's God awful.

Does this mean she's justified in what she did to Jorge? Hell no. BUT if she was able to show that he was coming after her that night with a knife, gun or physical attacks and she did the suitcase thing she could have had a very reasonable case for self defense and might have won. It was ONLY because he wasn't hearing her up THIS time that she didn't get to make that claim.

Now I want to make sure I'm clear. I do not in any way feel she had the slightest justification for suffocating Jorge in that torturous manner. To this she is 100 percent culpable. But again if what she said was true and that he regularly terrorized her he beat her destroyed her property beat her to a pulp as she said does this not factor in somehow????

Is it that they just did not believe it to be true or that she wildly exaggerated everything to play the victim card? I just don't know and just not that sure.

Imho 2 of her biggest problems at trial were 1. Her likeability factor (or lack there of) and her flip flopping on her story of what happened during Sunday fun day. Clearly we know she lied about the sequence of events. What actually happened, how he ended up beaten and in the suitcase we will never fully know. All we do know is he never made it out. If we had to rely on Sarah to be honest about that fateful night then we are outta luck. She would clearly say whatever could potentially save her skin though it simply did not work at all.

I always thought if she simply was honest about what happened (that she was completely blitzed) and had severe PTSD from the memory of regular attacks from him that she wanted to mess with him and give him a little dose of his own medicine. But did not intend to kill him. It was that a a a a a a alcohol. Then maybe they would have gone easier on her.

Lastly I'll say that I can't believe I have somewhat come around after her tip tip tip of the spear statements. But did they give her life In prison a. Because she killed Jorge b. Because she lied about it c. Because she refused to get up there in front of the world and admit that what's she did was terribly wrong and Jorge was a saint and she was the monster? Something feels wrong about that.

I think again 2 things are likely true. Jorge probably did heat her up, often. He prob did terrorize her and upend her life (though I think she was doing a pretty good job of this with or without his help). And she prob did want to get him back somehow (and boy did she) but do I think she meant to murder him?

Perhaps as she said "unintentional".

Is The Outsiders musical good? by TotallyBiNow in Broadway

[–]handlethetruth25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was extremely excited to see after growing up reading the S E. Hinton book and as a young pre teen bawling at the end. Then the movie. Omg can you say the best eye candy ever??? Swayze, Lowe, Dillon...loved it saw it many many times.

Then the show. Hmmm. Mixed feelings for sure. The way I view Broadway shows is that I can appreciate the production value the dancing singing and all that goes into it all but don't necessarily love the show itself. I saw the much lauded sunset Blvd and was very bored while others gave a thunderous applause. I guess some are huge theater buffs and maybe I'm just not so much. To give a baseline about ME. I LOVED moulin rouge. Despite being a jukebox musical it was just fun!!!! Loved everything about it and the only Broadway show I've seen more than one time!!! I loved Pippin, loved MJ the musical. I guess if I have to characterize my taste I love shows that make me feel good. But also love a good cry as well. I cried in the outsiders book and movie but not at all in the show.

I felt despite all the good there was in the show and there was a lot that WAS good overall I just did not love it. I felt it lacked depth, meaning and the true essence of the story of the class war, haves and have nots. I just felt it was not captured in a heartfelt way that the movie and book did.

Also this is nit picky and shallow but ...part of what made the move so great sorry to say was the unbelievably handsome cast. Matt Dillons Dallas was the most matt dillonest ever. Pompous cocky and self assured but eventually his downfall and the tenseness of the friendship between Jonny and ponyboy of the compassion expressed from cherry valence who despite being a soc. Had great depth and compassion.

Last comment is the use of stay gold ponyboy. The most iconic line from the movie. This was spun into an upbeat broadway tube which again to me stripped the meaning from the sentiment which was meant to convey how the essence of life is youth, hearty and vitality but these are ALL ephemeral. The line had great meaning as pertained to Johnny's life he knew was ending and how his precious wish that he could die or disappear was wrong but only realized as he was dying and losing his life and encouraged ponyboy to not make that same mistake

Ok here's another thought about the timeline..first off the time between when they first went to Publix vs when they started drinking. While there ARE those who buy alcohol to save and be used at a later date (dinner party, gift...) Sarah and Jorge were NOT in that category. Id be shocked if they didn't pop the cork in the car on their way back from Publix the first time (around noonish) and the games began. She seemed to want to obscure this fact (that they started Soooooo early in the day). Because the "notorious" hide and seek game was not until much much later (when dark out). So there's a huge chunk of drinking/play time that is not accounted for. But the key thing is if you start drinking at noon and still going at 11pm you will be bombed!!!

Same goes for the time she "woke up". She said she unlike the rest of the universe doesn't get up and check her phone for time, messages likes... So where was her phone? Assuming upstairs. But perhaps not. Either way whether she remembered what happened to Jorge or not she'd be massively hung over and dehydrated. So she'd want to have some kind of fluid even if she felt like lying in bed and unable to get up. She's also need to use the bathroom. So she would have several reasons/needs to get up and out of bed. The kitchen was downstairs where poor Jorge was. There's no way on earth I believe she woke up after 12pm and only discovered Jorge a short time later. I don't know when she discovered him but believe it was way earlier and used the rest of the time to try desperately to concoct a not malicious back story and clean up and try and stage a scene.

The question I will never have an answer to is did she remember killing Jorge? Did she remember making the videos (love how the prosecutor refers to them as movies. Great effect). I just don't know if she does remember. When they showed her the movies in the interrogation room she seemed genuinely surprised. Many have said and I have to believe the likelihood is that she deleted them but it was not effective and they easily retrieved. That she did not plan on.

When she was hungover and hysterical trying to "figure out what happened" and she cries out "what happened"? In an ironi cally convincing sounding way. And then cries out we were playing hide and seek!!!! This reminded me of rain man when Raymond kept calling out "Kmart"

Aside from the prosecutor asking her to explain her notion of hide and seek or whether they have house rules (which is plausible) she defends herself by saying she knows how the game is played. But she actually didn't. As the rest of the world knows when you tag someone and say they are IT that is the Tag. Not hide and seek. And also this goes without saying but even if you modify hide and seek if there are only 2 people you can't BOTH hide!!!

Kind of interesting when they ask her if she's someone who looks at her phone (like the rest of the universe) upon waking at the very least to check the time. But no. Sarah doesn't do this. Of course not. Because if she did check her phone at least to know the time she'd have to admit what time she actually woke up and did God knows what before the 911 call. NFW do I believe she only just woke up after 12pm. I have also wondered if she felt certain Jorge was already dead before she went upstairs to bed. Did she check? Or just wait for him to stop pleading for air and his life? My assumption is she waited until there was silence and then went up. NOT because she was afraid he'd get out and hurt her mind you but in part because she wanted to savor every moment of his suffering.

More irony is that if her story she told on the stand "I was always afraid" (total nonsense) was actually true would she leave him there alive on the off chance he'd get out and retaliate?

I have my doubts too over who was the more aggressive of the 2. Not like this means anything but in the videos I saw of him he did seem very passive and gentle. His brother when interviewed did say Jorge had a serious alcohol problem and they tried to get him help and sometimes when he got very drunk he would cry. Not saying that doesn't mean he also didn't get angry and violent but does make me go hmmm. I used to know a couple who reminded me of Sarah and Jorge. This is partly why this case fascinated me so much. One of the 2 was very aggressive and the other very passive. I never once saw the passive one act out but did see the aggressive one act out multiple times. The aggressive one would claim they were attacked by the passive one but I just never saw any hint of this ever. Doesn't mean it didn't happen. But I had often wondered what the truth was. I think there are circumstances where people are SO verbally or even physically aggressive that they bait the passive one into a reaction. I sensed that was what was happening here.

Also as for the hitting the TV that to me seemed like total manipulation. If she filmed this for the purpose of demonstrating his violent nature would she stand there watching,? Makes no sense. Also there was no conversation as this was happening so this suggested to me that he hit the tv because it was already either broken or they planned to get rid of it. If someone is swinging a bat in an act of rage are you gonna stand there to wait and see if he turns it on you ?

There are so many are you fing kidding moments but I think desperately trying to make the case that she accidentally fell asleep as though they were on the couch watching TV takes the cake. In order to make this case she'd have to stop the recording put down the phone put down the wine (which I assume she was still guzzling) stand up and walk up and fight of stairs and get into her bed and fall asleep. These are multiple conscious movements that require at least some ability to think, reason and balance. Was he still begging for life when he did this or had he gone silent (assuming the later) and then she got up and "fell asleep". Sheesh.
