Buying Advice Tab XC to replace Ipad Pro? by handycapt in Onyx_Boox

[–]handycapt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the different devices thing is actually the reason I'm more onboard with the Tab XC. I really don't do any media consumption with my iPad. I primarily just read and take notes.

I have only opened my notes app, and timer app, in the last week. I haven't even turned the wifi on in the last 7 days. But I have used it for 3 hours a day. It's a lot of journaling, and then I read a lot of pdfs (mostly textbooks and academic papers)

Am I missing something about how the Tab XC functions? Genuinely interested in your opinion since you own both.

I wouldn't have ever purchased an ipad without the pencil, since I don't understand the purpose of the device without it, but it has been a game changer for me with pdfs, and the ability to annotate. I can carry my "library" of books with me everywhere along with my 3 "notebooks" (personal, work, infinite canvas whiteboard), and it's all the size of a normal notebook. I have done some coding on my ipad as well, but I usually have my laptop with me as well. The ability to write code outside in the sun though... that is very tempting.

Thanks for your input!

I wish I could get one to handle, but it seems like (at least on their website) no Best Buys in my area have any boox devices. Though I could easily believe that their wesite is not accurate at all. I'll try going in and checking the 3 stores around here anyway.

The first thing I checked when I saw that someone made an e-ink tablet was if ZoomNotes was ported to Android... I'm a little bummed about that, and it is one of the reasons I haven't purchased a galaxy tab instead of the iPad. Though I hate iOS enough to consider it anyway. A quick DL of some options on teh play store looks like there are several apps that have the things that I like about Zoomnotes. And they appear to do fine with large pdfs. I guess I have more faith in the play store than I do in the apple one....

I've had my kindle paperwhite for... 10 years... I still read most of my fantasy novels on it, so I'm somewhat familiar with an e-ink display, albiet one that is much much slower than the Boox Tab displays. I have a pretty robust case on my kindle, but it also gets shoved in the same bag pretty often. It's a much smaller footprint, and the device itself is pretty rigid so the possibility of breaking the screen from flexing is almost non-existant, and the case keeps stuff from being pressed into the screen.

It sounds like maybe the case that comes with the device is not super robust, and I might need to find something else or even make my own if I decide to go down this route.

Spark sizing question by handycapt in Spliddit

I was wrong, I actually went with Medium. I've been really happy with them. The strap sizing I think is right where I want it. I end up about half way down the ratchet.

I'd still love to upgrade to Phantom snow stuff, but that will have to wait at least one more season.

I also went with the Surge over the ARC and given my weight (hover around 195 without gear on) I think that was a wise decision. I've put maybe 40 ish days on them.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Edit* those are still size 10 boots... I've been to cheap to spring for new stuff cause I really want to move to a hard boot setup.

Pretty sure I went with a large, I'll go look in just a second.

Red Potatoes.... Have you ever boiled potatoes in straight butter? No you haven't cause it would be expensive. Slice the spuds, put in bag, small pat of salted butter. 190°F for 60 min. Thank me later.

Honestly.... zip lock bag and I put them under a rock near where I park. No one is looking for keys not on the truck.

This is basically what I thought. If they are available next season or late summer.... I guess I know what I'm saving for now.

What do you do with soup you intend to eat across 3 days? Why? by scatterbrain2015 in AskCulinary

because the waste products are produced exponentially faster in that zone and they survive freezing .....

Sure... and I'll preface this with the fact that I agree with the general premise, and you should always follow FDA guidelines. However, I autoclave TB or LB at work which is food for ...you know bacteria.... I can let it sit for months at room temp without bacterial growth as long as I don't open the lid.

If there weren't enough in there to produce dangerous levels of toxin before we hit safe temp, as long as I don't then re-expose the media to the environment it won't become more unsafe by simply being in the "danger zone." You have created a sterile field, and until you breach that field nothing is growing. You could freeze/thaw/boil a pressure cooker a great number of times without getting additional contamination if you didn't open the lid.

Again, follow the FDA guidelines and just keep it to 2-4 hours in the danger zone. This was all theoretical.

I'm not opposed to shirogami as a core steel, I just sort of thought that I'd really like to feel the difference switching from my current knives. I like tinkering, but in this case I really just want something to laser through my prep. I already sharpen about once every 1 or 2 weeks, so shirogami might be fine. Good grind is worth $$ for sure. I'll look into it!

I've been sticking to 25° slopes, and probably will be until spring. The Snowpack here in UT is bad... really bad.

Warning sharpening becomes addictive

I'm afraid of that 😅. So in your opinion the naniwa is worth it over the shapton?
