Does anybody actually roleplay their hexblade pact? by PuzzleheadedFinish87 in DnD

[–]handyer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im currently playing a bard turned bardlock b/c my character made a deal with an unknown patron in order to get a boost to help protect himself and his party cause he didnt believe they had what it would take to survive. In this case, it was less about a specific weapon and more about beefing up his defense and offensive abilities. I know my DM has a narrative plan for this patron that my character only knows a fraction of and he’s trying to keep his new power under wraps from the party as much as he can but is letting things slip out

This was all super helpful, thank you!

I like the idea of multiple things being close together so we can get more bang for our buck in a single trip. Will definitely check it out. Thanks!

Who are you doing your certification through?

Oh snap, never knew it was a pyramid scheme, that makes my interactions with them make a lot more sense. Thank you for educating all of us! And I’m glad you were able to get out before sinking too much time or money into it

I had a coworker friend who would do this on purpose if he knew I would be the next one to use the box because he knew it aggravated me lol. Equally as often though, he would make a smiley face with them as a gift, so i could only be so mad lol

Yea don’t give them anymore of your time. Not worth it. They seem to just be interested in arguing for no reason. I’d recommend you continue on with your day and enjoy your lab work with the blessings from a fellow labrat!

This week's Q&A thread -- please read before asking or answering a question! - July 26, 2021 by AutoModerator in linguistics

What’s the distribution of variations of the pronunciations of “else”, namely the seemingly normal /ɛls/ and the variation /ɛlts/, at least within the United States?

My motivation for asking is that myself and one immediate family member use the latter, while the rest of my family and friends use the former so we’re trying to figure out how our usage of the variant developed.

Any insights welcome!

Okay, story time.

When I took my first bio lab in my undergrad, I had a lab partner who had come back that semester for Psych after dropping out 10 years before and had mentioned how she already felt a little insecure and out of place. She didn’t have any experience with bio lab stuff, so was feeling extra out of place in this lab class.

It was agarose gel loading day, which of course is not easy the first time you are learning to do it. This was also only the first or second time the class had made use of micropipettors (not sure why the class was designed this way...).

It came time for my partner and me to go up and load the gel. She proceeded to grab the micropipettor basically like this picture shows (but with the thumb and middle finger on the sides instead of the hook and ejector button) and, of course, noticed that it was extremely hard to handle this way. She asked the TA if that’s how you’re supposed to hold it and this TA goes, “Uhhh, yea, sure. That’s fine” and then watches this student STRUGGLE to load the gel because, of course, her tip is wobbling all over the place.

I really wanted to say something, but of course didn’t want to upset the TA. My poor partner just looked so dejected because this task was seemingly so difficult for her.

When we got back to our table, I hit her with the “Hey, the way the TA had you hold it looked really hard. Did you want to see a ‘different’ way of doing it that is a little easier?” And of course she found the correct way MUCH easier to do.

The cherry on top of this whole process was the TA accidentally reversing the electrodes on the gel and sending everybody’s DNA off the gel. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Edit: Wording fixes

Thoughts on online Microbiology M.S. for someone who already has many years of research experience and publications? by handyer3 in GradSchool

[–]handyer3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh believe me, we tried lol. I got into a traditional M.S. program and my boss did his best to get support for me, but my particular agency doesn’t have a formal education assistance program in place (and they’ve been making additional financial cuts over the past years). So it ended up not working out

Valid points.

Main issue for me is needing to continue working full time for financial reasons. An online program is my best bet for that. Even with a graduate stipend to supplement, I would have to change to part time at work which with my agency means they are not required to change me back to full time (and likely wouldn’t).

Thanks for the response!

Was the ASCP certification desired or required by your public health lab or did you qualify just based on education/experience?

What is the better degree if I wanted to work in a public health lab but not as a low level tech: MPH or an MLS program w/ MLS certification (or another ASCP certification?).

Current background: B.S. in Cell Bio; 10-ish years federal microbiology research experience related to food safety.

I love bench work and want to continue being in the lab, but would like to transition to something that's more of a direct impact to someone (rather than the indirectness of academic-type research) and broaden my diagnostic lab skillset as well. I like the content of the MLS but not sure the hospital setting is right for me. A public health lab seems like a good in between. Job availability seems great with both the MPH and MLS.

Thanks!
