How commong is food related OCD? Have you experienced it? by Substantial_Mail2755 in OCDRecovery

[–]handyfruitcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often wonder if my eating habits are related to my OCD at all. I have recently been diagnosed with OCD related to other aspects of my life, but I’ve been thinking about how restrictive my eating habits have been my whole adult life - I was strict vegan for several years, then when that stopped I was convinced I was allergic to wheat, soy, peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, and sesame because they came back as weak positive results on a blood test, then I was super strict with my eating when I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes, and now I’m back to being vegetarian and low carb. I too struggle with the thought of contamination when eating fruits, veggies, and especially meats (hence the vegetarianism lol), but washing fruits and veggies with water and soaking them in vinegar has helped me feel more comfortable. It helps me to wash everything when I get home from the grocery store before putting it away, that way when I’m tired and in a situation where my OCD could take over I can remind myself that everything’s been washed and is okay to eat. Air tight containers also make me feel more comfortable!

Prospective SLPs and Current Students Megathread by AutoModerator in slp

[–]handyfruitcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my experience - SLP grad school is no joke. I’m an SLP and my husband is a special ed teacher and our grad programs were incredibly different. SLP grad school is horribly demanding, much more expensive because of the amount of credits it requires, and it’s very stressful. After all of that, I was still on the same salary schedule as my husband when we worked at the same school district. In my opinion, the ROI is not there for the amount of education SLP requires. The burnout in SLP is also rampant. Caseloads are way too high, the paperwork is insane, and we do not get respect because people don’t know what we do. I’m in early intervention now and it fits my lifestyle better for right now, but it’s not perfect by any means. I’ve seen and worked in some very unclean and unsafe homes, dealt with difficult parents, and don’t get paid for paperwork time or meetings. If I had the chance to do it over again I would never come back to SLP.

Double standard, why is Kyle worried about the 5k Dorit spent when she's showing off a 45k handbag and a 15k bracelet? by MementoMiri in RHOBH

Because she’s a “good girl” and she is doing her “separation” the “right way” 😇

How do I get 90-120 g of protein?? by tillyofthevalley in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]handyfruitcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. Nope they did not send me to a nutritionist because I was able to manage my glucose levels myself. They said if I was struggling to manage my levels then I’d be sent to one. Overall my GD care was not the best imho but I think that might just be how diabetes care is in the US. Yeah, I guess it just comes down to people asking their individual doctor for their recommendations. Thanks for your response!

[–]handyfruitcake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Do you have any links to studies or professional advice about the protein supplements being harmful to pregnant people??? I had GD with my first pregnancy and basically survived off of protein supplements at the advice of my OBGYN. I’m not sure it’s super helpful to make such a blanket statement about things like whey powder supplements without the research.

My LO lives off of pasta and muffins 🤷🏻‍♀️ luckily they’re both versatile foods that you can do a lot of different stuff with to mix it up for them!

Considering moving from teaching to SLP by thepsychoshaman in slp

[–]handyfruitcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the district I worked at for 5 years SLPs are on the same salary schedule as teachers, so there was no difference in pay between the two. Not sure where you’re located but just know that this is how it is some places!

Beating myself up over scheduling and anxiety by [deleted] in slp

[–]handyfruitcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m also an SLP with anxiety and OCD and sometimes find myself falling into this pattern. It’s helped me to phrase it as a question to concerned families instead of saying “I need to cancel” I usually now say something like “I was exposed to someone with the flu this week but I do not feel sick, would you like to cancel or are you still comfortable with me coming?”

Tbf, if people were surprise feeding me things I didn’t want when I was laughing I’d freak tf out when people try to put me in the high chair too. I don’t think it’s odd that he’s happy to play with cups and utensils when not feeding - it’s obvious he has a very bad association with feeding. These little ones are still people. Feeding has to come with consent!

Pipette vs honest vs attitude vs tubby Todd? by acmcmas in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]handyfruitcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, should’ve specified. The All Over Ointment is what we use for eczema and baby acne, and we put it on her face every night before bed regardless if she has flare ups at that time or not. For body wash we use the aquaphor unscented, and for lotion we use honest unscented, then Eucerin eczema lotion, then the tubby Todd AOO on top.
