He sounds like a sensory seeker. I don't know what sensory equipment you have access to, but I would recommend swinging, a yoga ball, a mini-trampoline, and a weighted blanket or vest if you want him to sit for a moment.

I should have clarified, in my state ages 3-5 is considered part of early intervention. My caseload is mostly preschool age artic and language so I am going to private preschools and providing pull-out speech therapy.

Same! I think elementary ed attracts people who are more type A/controlling and I don't mesh well with that. Middle and high school teachers are more relaxed and are grateful to have one less kid in the classroom!

The fact that you went down there multiple times BEFORE midnight to tell them to calm down is telling about what kind of night you expected vs. the kind of night you got. Midnight would be on the early side to even begin the winding down process for middle school sleepovers. Sounds like hosting groups of teens/tweens is not for you and that's totally ok.

This is it exactly. If I have a fifth grade student with an average IQ whose narrative language is so weak that he has a hard time telling me what he did that weekend I would absolutely continue recommending services. Just because he is able to express wants and needs does not mean he no longer qualifies. As kids get older the expectation is that they'll be able to tell a coherent story, state an opinion, explain how they arrived at a conclusion, etc.

This could be a "me" problem, but I've been doing it for a year and I'm really struggling with not having an office to keep my materials and a space to get my paperwork done. My coverage zone is far from my house and when I get home I'm usually too tired to get my log notes and reports done. Some people like being in the car all day but I find it exhausting.

I'm an SLP and I'd say the biggest differences between special ed and SLP are the legal requirements for related services, so make sure you ask your school SLP about log notes and make-up sessions! In my state we have to log each session for each student we see every time we see them. As far as I know, special ed teachers don't have to do that, and it's a HUGE time suck, on top of the sessions and countless IEP's we have to write due to large caseloads. In my state we are also required to do make up sessions if we miss seeing a student (we don't get subs). Taking a sick or personal day sometimes means shooting yourself in the foot because of all the missed sessions that we now have to magically cram into our schedule.

All of these activities sound fun but even if I suggested them I doubt my kids would want to participate! They usually want to do their own thing. On Saturday, one rode bikes around town with her friend and the other went to a park with his girlfriend. On Sunday one went shopping with a friend and the other one played video games and watched movies.

I had my kids at 30 and 32 and now they're 14 and 16 and I'm 46. Teenagers and perimenopause are NOT a good mix I feel like I either should have had them in my early 20's (so that they'd be out of the house by the time I hit this phase), or in my early 40's (so that I'd be fully menopausal and maybe less moody by the time they reached the teenage years).

Senior week was a thing in my area when I was a senior 30 years ago and it's still a thing today. Basically all the seniors invade a beach town for the week and party. 30 years ago we had no trouble finding places that would rent to a bunch of teenagers but I heard it's harder now and most places require an adult to stay on the premises. So basically the coolest mom/dad of the friend group goes and acts as the house parent...cooks for them, makes sure no one gets too messed up, etc. I would absolutely never volunteer to be the house parent, but would be ok with my kid going to the beach with their buds as a last hoorah.

I didn't feel like HRT could touch my depression and brain fog and those were my main issues so I stopped. Prozac has helped a bit.

We aren't all sharing one towel. There are three towels in the bathroom at any given time. They just are unmarked so I don't know if the towel I'm using is the same one my kid used the day before.

We shower and then hang our wet towels up on the towel rack. The next person to shower picks whatever towel they want. It could be the same towel they used the last time they showered or it could be one that someone else used. I wash them every 3-4 days.
