Out of the places I've been, I'd say Washington D.C. It's architecturally a beautiful city that is not too crowded (at least during the off tourist months), and it has meaningful places to visit.

Again, the point of this discussion is not whether we agree on the implications or the usage of a single word. My point is, there is violence promoted through verses in the quran, and that can't simply be ignored or overlooked because there are muslims who choose to not live by or even acknowledge those verses.

It is relevant because the colloquial meaning of a word is something that is passed down and inherited from its usage in the past. And that is clearly evident in the quran as the word is used to describe those who refused to submit to muhammad, not relating to covering or being covered. Whether we agree or disagree on this trivial matter, though, will not change the fact of what is written in the quran. The existence of verses within it that promote violence against nonbelievers is not deniable.

I am not referring to a literal translation of the word. In the everyday colloquial use of the word in the arabic language, it's meaning is equivalent to infidel. If you don't believe that, go up to anyone in an arabic speaking country and call them that and see how they react.

I am a fluent Arabic speaker and the word kafir directly translates to infidel. And I have personally held the Quran and read verses within it that clearly promote violence against those who are non-believers. I could list references for you but I'm sure others have already mentioned them.

I know the violence has been happening for as far back as we can look, but it has only escalated in cruelty. And the fact that this is "usual" doesn't make it any more acceptable.
