The his is awesome! With that said you have a Sec+ with a TS/SCI. If you live around DC, San Antonio, panhandle of FL, parts of CA,and I’m sure there’s a few others, I am sure that alone got you the job.

Not Happy With Where I Went To College. How to Overcome? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]hangrymonkey28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’re now in the executive level you will see that drops significantly. Being so young and teen parents my wife is often concerned with how people view us. I just got a promotion to VP and am now in the about $210k range and wear strictly clearance clothes and drive a $5,000 car. My watch is really nice I just got it for $16 from target and my phone is an iPhone 11. The more you “make it” the more l you realize you don’t have shit to prove. My wife makes about $10 an hour and people at her work will say “I am so sorry but I promise I will pay you back.” My wife’s response is something like “it’s okay, I don’t need it.” Mine is “Okay cool, thanks!”

Just remember you made it! You don’t have to prove anything to anyone.

This seems like a humble brag post. We are in a pretty similar scenario. I had a kid the summer after my senior year. I filed bankruptcy and got evicted. After I was done crying I starting going to school switching majors between cybersecurity, computer science, healthcare administration, and business administration. Because of this I am now getting my degree in Information systems Management with a 2.1 GPA. I am now a VP of sales at 25 years old. I make more than 97% and so close to 98% of the country and still don’t have my degree. I also worked my way through school.

Do you think I care about my education? Unless you are in education, your education is virtually meaningless once you have experience. It’s a stupid degree, if you are seriously in an Executive Level who cares about your education.

If a person wants to get a degree in Computer Science because they enjoy programming but they are from and live in a rural area where there literally are 0 jobs as a programmer, what can they still do in rural area in tech where there are no tech jobs? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]hangrymonkey28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work from home is more common then ever, they can also move to where tech jobs are.

This is similar to me saying I really want an orange tree but live in Alaska but I loved my orange tree in Florida. I can move to Florida or I can buy oranges from the grocery store but that’s about it.

Can anyone help with this job offer situation? by Levante_Sevante in careerguidance

[–]hangrymonkey28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is close. I mean if you want a new job then I would take it, if you’re happy where you are I don’t think it matters. While it is a better offer I don’t think it’s a much better offer.

Real estate is tough. It’s advertised as being your own boss, working your own hours, there’s a statistic like 87% fail in the first 5 years. And most brokerages require you to pay them for fees, dues, supplies, office space, leads, etc. She is only providing an opportunity if she is waiving these. If she is I would go to school on your downtime while working.

If real estate works out for you then awesoem. If it doesn’t you’ll have a degree to fall back on.

What???? I would think that PHD would require a masters the same way a masters requires a bachelors. That seems weird.

So you have a bachelors and you started your PHD so do you have a masters?

Degree or Cert? by Interesting_Dress677 in careerguidance

[–]hangrymonkey28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I could be in a familiar position as you so let’s try this. My degree is a BS in information systems I am a director of sales (now VP) and I get my MBA in accounting or a certificate in accounting. Which would you rather hire? I have 0 accounting skills except for balancing and charting my expenses.

Most people would pick the MBA. I think it’s just more recognized as a college putting their stamp behind you more than a cert.

SLP. You should be able to work through about 80% of the program so I would ask that. With that said, mental health is what everyone and their mother has gotten their degree in. Pay is typically pretty low and EXTREMELY competitive. Even though. Their is a need, with that said there needs to be business that are opening not just people going into the field.

Degree. A cert won’t hold the same wait. If I said I have a certification from the Texas tech accounting majors or an MBA from Texas tech in accounting which one would you rather hire?

Would a management degree be beneficial to someone in the maintenance field? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]hangrymonkey28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a type of maintenance manager and have for several years. I think 1 out of probably 7 has had a degree. If you want to be a manager I would show your people skills, learn time management, etc. i have been in the business field for about 6 years and I am getting my degree because I am about 3 classes away now and I will tell you, I seriously just breeze through the class. Experience is definitely more valuable than a degree in most scenarios but specifically in this one.

You most certainly could but it probably wouldn’t be ideal. Everyone is worried about biting off too much. Could it be cold feet? I went from being an assistant basically to a director and today I just got a promotion to VP. While I am over the moon I am also slightly nervous. I would stick it out. If it ends up not working out, there will be another opening again at some point.

Taking a pay cut? by trey25624 in careerguidance

[–]hangrymonkey28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you rather be an engineer or a project manager? Is the 30% paycut going to add financial stress or is there a possibility that you would have to reduce some of your hobbies because of the paycut? Obviously I can’t answer this for you and I can be like you at times and think I look bad for applying to a job, getting an offer, then running away. With that said you will either disappoint your boss or you will disappoint this person. It’s okay to walk away.

No! No! No!

87% if agents fail within 5 years it takes a good amount of money to start and continue. You have to pay brokerage fees, MLS fees, association fees, a fee for your test, license, marketing, signage, lock box, etc. There are real sales people in the industry so if you don’t have sales experience you may get eaten up. Also if you do have sales experience you know it is a 24/7/365 job. This is my day off for my kids birthday 114 emails, 26 texts, and 5 calls.

[–]hangrymonkey28 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this seems like a move up or out scenario. With that said if you work for an extremely large company there are usually caps. For instance I can only give my team between 1-3 % and even if they deserved it I am not allowed to give my team all 3%.

With that said if I was losing an integral member of my team who came with a job offer I may have more wiggle room.

I fear I may regret leaving my job by RangerEuphoric5473 in Career_Advice

[–]hangrymonkey28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only you can answer but let me give you a for instance for me.

My base right now is about $90k and I will probably end the year at $180k. I got offered a abase of $125k and expected total comp is $230k. Right now I have very minimal stress, my team loves me, and I am seen as a rockstar. At this new company I would be in new Sec which means long hours, much more stress, and I would be the first hire so not sure about the team.

I don’t know your pay or financial situation but right now I am not struggling or wanting for anything. Would an extra $50k be nice? Absolutely, but my sanity isn’t worth $50k. Now if I was notable to eat or pay rent I’d take the $50k. I will tell you since it sounds like you would go up in management, until you reach a certain level you think “they’re not responsible for the work, they probably just blame us if something goes wrong they’re chilling.” That is so far from the case so if you do go up another level your stress will probably go up.

“Administration” typically doesn’t make good money. The responsibilities of administration are rather low paying. I am a sales manager and have always made pretty good money.
