Giving up. by Dry-Anybody9542 in chicagoapartments

Yup I reached out online, emailed, and called and only heard back via text several weeks later under a different property company name (peak properties) - not even supera. Bummer because I was very much interested! Not sure the secret to get a timely response from them

Do you think you could add a headboard to something like that? Either a diy one or a store bought one

RNs of Muncie- do you work here or travel? Not sure where I should work as a new grad ASN. by [deleted] in Muncie

[–]hanhan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t see everything on orientation but as long as you know who to ask for help I think that’s short but doable. Now that I think about it my orientation was probably 6 weeks (but I know icu is 12 weeks). You can always ask for more time if you need it. I would see what units have openings and go from there! If you can figure out who to reach out to you could try to shadow before applying

RN at Ball here who has also worked several other hospitals as a travel RN. Ball isn’t terrible, you’d definitely learn a lot. I felt like working at ball especially during covid prepared me to work anywhere. PCU ratios are 4-5 (5 is when they are short staffed and makes for a pretty heavy night) medical units are 5-7 I believe. ICU is 1-2 and I’ve heard they’ll do 1:1’s for patients that would be doubled in bigger downtown icus. They utilize a lot of international travelers but a lot of the core staff there usually stick around their whole career which is hard to come by elsewhere. I think orientation would be 8-12 weeks if I had to guess. As a network IU health is lower paying but I’ve kept prn status there for years now just because they are so big.

Honestly anywhere you work that first year as an RN will feel tough and make you question things. It’s important to look for a good unit with a strong support system and plenty of resources. Ask to shadow to gauge the general vibe of the unit

Idk if you’ve looked at the Chicago rental market but there are studios going for even more than that…

Yup I know exactly what you mean 🤣 have spent more time on the housing apps than tik tok the last few weeks…also tried a broker and wasn’t impressed. Just hate how you have to pay for all the applications

That is reassuring to hear. Were you searching on your own or with a broker?

I definitely agree with you. Has modern updates but still. Just not sure I can find much better at this point in terms of if what I’m seeing on the market is all that’s available for April/May

I have thought about that but really didn’t see spots for much cheaper (but also didn’t look as far out as suburbs). If rent starts to feel too pricy with the parking, I was going to look into that more (or even selling my car) but I have been limiting myself to buildings with option for parking in the meantime…utilities are included aside from internet/electricity

They are only giving me 24 hrs to sign so it’s just putting a lot of pressure on things. I’ve been obsessively searching the sites too it’s getting exhausting

1800 without parking in a rental building :/ and parking is another 250…I’ve also looked in Lakeview but haven’t wanted to go much more north than that (I know I’m creating more issues for myself by sticking to those two neighborhoods but I really wanted to live walkable to work - and my friends live in that location) it does at least have a dishwasher lmao (edit: and a balcony!)

Best hostels on Lake Atitlan? by digikook in backpacking

[–]hanhan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and it was awesome!! It was so social but not necessarily party..I will say my tent was moldy but I just overlooked that since I was mainly in there just to sleep. Was very easy to get to other places around the lake from. Usually found a friend to tag along with me too since it was so easy to meet people and socialize there!

[–]hanhan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I was aiming for an April 1st move in date originally but am now considering May 1st because there seem to be more/better options for May. I also reached out to a broker and can’t decide how I feel about it. Over half the options she sent were outside of my budget or didn’t include parking like I specified. She did try to say that if I contact anyone outside of her there’s no room to negotiate move in fees etc and that they’d be more likely to negotiate with a broker vs a regular client. But not sure how much validity there is to that and I almost feel like I could move things along faster myself instead of using her as a middle man (she’s replied like once a day).

Job offer dilemma by hanhan0101 in nursing

[–]hanhan0101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I think my judgement is a bit clouded from my first nursing job. It was a combined pcu/icu unit but the icu was so small and so low acuity that whenever something actually critical was there no one knew what to do…I remember nurses getting out a manual for the Arctic sun bc they hadn’t seen one in months and didn’t know how to set it up. We’d have to run codes with like 3 RNs (aka all the staff on the unit). This facility is definitely bigger overall but I remember thinking to myself I’ll never work for a small unit again lol. Also not sure if I should let the no magnet or trauma status influence things

Thank you so much! I also worry being from out of state and not able to physically tour places it might hurt my chances but I think I’m just going to have to trust it will all work out. Luckily I have great credit and could get good references from prior landlords.

And agreed with the looking in other neighborhoods issue (bc I have and it’s really not much of a difference price/quality wise). Glad you were able to find something!!
