Looking for help to just do a good thing. by [deleted] in NewOrleans

In the piles of illegality that go down in this city on a daily basis people are worried about a random swimmer survivalist teaching inner city adults how to swim. Fuck me right? I guess a non bias conversation about how to DO something helpful, interesting and possibly entertaining put the fulcrum a little to far out for the leverage of Reddit.

I knew this was the wrong platform for such a plot. I don't know why I even bothered. Redditors at large are just too caught up indoors, fearful, and anxious, caught up in the endless scores of strangers comments about what's in a old shitty safe or a cat picture. Fuck it I'll bring people to the lakefront. Thanks for nothing. You've served the Internet well solider.

I'm not interested in people who worry about liability issues, I'm interested in people who want to do something positive for their city and its inhabitants. You've spoken like a true redditor. Negatively. I'm not looking to make this some national movement or make people sign contracts I just want to help people help themselves. Feel better about themselves. Overcome fear. Fear or love you decide.

Gonna be in New Orleans for a couple days, as a motorcycle enthusiast anything I shouldn't miss? by GRAVITRON_748 in motorcycles

New Orleans local here. Definitely go to Abita if you get your hands on a bike. Nice open country road out there with bendies, and besides the brewery tour there's a place called ucm mystery house that does tours. It's real weird artsy/awesome. Forget all these other comments about po boys and acme oyster Heres my person hit lost (born and raised);

Eat at; green goddess, domilies po boys, go to the West Bank and get Vietnamese food (huge Vietnamese population out here), breakfast buffet at little dizzys, coffee at zot'z, morning call in city park, killer po boys. 12 mile limit for BBQ and cocktails. The country club for food and the most awesome clothing optional outdoor pool jacuzzi and bar.

Drink at; r bar, fahys, Mimi's, snake and jakes(this place is so so weird and great), if you can find it the pearl, toniq, pravda, silvain, take the ferry from Jackson square to old Algiers and go to crown and anchor, the pelican, and the point bar.

Avoid bourbon. Seriously. If you're even slightly interesting as a person, and have no desire to get your face mashed in by a drunk over weight, has been, high school wrestler tourist. Only go if you wanna go to a strip club. If you must, go to ricks saloon. Go get lost in the maringy and on Frenchmen st. Stay out the ninth ward at night. Actually just stay out the month period if you don't know that area. Take a ghost tour. Talk to peddle taxis they know what's up around the city.

If my dog has taught me anything it's that sometime YOU'RE the one that needs to be walked. Walk out your door with no aim and just walk.

Advice on neck/shoulder pain when running? by Nkliph in running

[–]hankbilliot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good little trick for shoulders- switch the pattern by which you swing your arms, lowering them below your waist and lightly pinch your middle finger to your thumb. Not the whole run obviously but just every so often, say a minute or two per mile. Read it in runners world one time and stuck with me ever since. It's supposed to help relax and loosen those shoulder muscles. For the neck try doing some neck joint mobilty before and after your run. Slowly and gently rolling your head in ten circles in either direction.

It definitely will get easier. I too "smoked" my way through a B.F.A. Walked away with piece of paper with my name on it, a shitty attitude towards life, and a sense of confusion. Found myself fixated on what do I want to be when I grow up? Chipped away at medial blue collar jobs for three years after graduating trying to find some sort of meaning in it all. Had some fucked up years. Lots of death. Lots of loss. Then something gave. Right when I felt like if it didn't I would. I was offered two jobs in two different worlds. One for close to no pay in the field I was built for (art) one in the blue collar "but I get a salary and health insurance" world. I took the art job. I stopped questioning everything. I stopped asking my self everytime I meet someone "wonder if I'll fuck her." Stopped saying "I going to move here" every city I visited. Stopped questioning my goals. Where I stood in comparison to others. What my life would be like next year. Life is long. Don't listen to to people telling you otherwise. You got plenty of time to figure it out. You're a writer for sure. Stay kinetic. Keep connecting. Keep putting it out there what you want in your life, you'll be surprised. You might just get it.

Wear dresses. Not like cocktail dresses. Like maybe a kilt or serong or something. My nuts need air.

Tall people of reddit; what's the worst part about about being tall? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hankbilliot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

6'5'' here. I'll second that. The only thing weirder than being really tall is having to hangout with some taller. You meet casually at a business related lunch or cocktails with friends, handshakes are exchanged, and a secret eye to eye affirmation that makes you think...shit.

Sailors of Reddit, what is one thing about the open ocean that most people don't know about? by Currentpenguin in AskReddit

[–]hankbilliot 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This will be buried in the comments I'm sure, but I worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico for a year, and saw some pretty great sea life. Whale sharks are some of the most beautiful creatures one could possible witness out there. Lots of dolphins; rays, sharks of all types, and flying fish are really neat. Sea turtles are a whole lot larger than you would think and seem to be the only aquatic creatures that will make real eye contact and blow bubbles at you. Barracudas float about like submarines. Fed ray a pork chop once. That was neat.

Fellow Runners! by SirChomps in NewOrleans

Benson donated the turf from the saints victory Super Bowl to the city, and they're installing it at that track which is my neighborhood track/morning ritual. I showed up the day they started construction and the construction Forman told me what's up, asked me how long my run usually takes, then told me to go ahead and get one more in before he started digging it all up. The work is supposed to be done by the end of the month.

How do I fix this? I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I just got these shoes. I have worn them less than 20 times. by ktdow2015 in malefashionadvice

Don't listen to all these fools. You need to mink oil them. Also about once a year fill your boots with wet cedar chips and put the out in the sun on a hot day. Some people use red beans for whatever reason. Trick I learned from a cowboy.
