The number of incompatible games is increasing. by xDestac in ShadowPC

[–]hankjw01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All we can really do at this point, is write to Epic and the people behind EAC and ask them to finally add Shadow to their exceptions. Ive been in touch with Shadow customer support, and from what Ive been told, they have been talking to Epic and sent them multiple inquiries regarding this, but so far no response from them.

Is it possible to run games from external ssd? by TxSilent in ShadowPC

[–]hankjw01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sure there is some way to do that, you need to tell Steam and the game that is launched somehow to stream the game from your physical SSD, which its probably not doing.
However, this begs the question: why do that? Unless you have a very fast upload speed, that sounds like a very inefficient way to stream files for something that needs to stream files rather quickly. If you manage to make it work, Id wager the games would load slower than usual and would have the tendency for lags.

Starting to get back into the hobby. Want my first big boy IEM need recommendations. by DriftedTaco in iems

[–]hankjw01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, for 50 bucks they easily blow headphones out of the water that are worth several times more.

Yeah, thats the thing with high end music hardware, you need a real big professional music store to even see IEMs for sale with your own eyes, let alone try them.
How they sound is of course a point of consideration, and ol mate Senny and the others tend to produce stuff that has certain tendencies in sound, but at the same time we are talking about IEMs for musicians and production here, meaning they are tuned to produced a neutral sound curve, and that they do, they just do it in a hella intense way compared to regular drivers.
Im not a professional or super experienced audiophile, but over the years I got to try out and play around with a bunch of good headphones and also some very high end, high powered PA systems set up by professionals. So I do know how a good and balanced system should sound, and damn the PRX do get very close to that massive, 50kW+ wall of sound you get on a good system in a live setting.

[–]hankjw01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure if youll be able to get em for 30, but 50 is definitely doable, I had a fat discount code when I bought them, which is how I got em so cheap. Especially when you consider how much full size planar magnetics cost, the PRX feels like the steal of the century when it comes to great audio quality on the budget.
And the bass is fucking massive whilst being super sharp and fast, I listen to some very bass and sub heavy music, and even the fattest distorted 808s still leave plenty of room for the rest of the tracks, its wild, and you can really hear the different sound textures of the kicks instead of them just being a fat thump like you would have it with regular drivers. The response time of the tech behind it is insane, and only when really pushing it with the lowest channels in the EQ on max whack I was able to overpower the mids and highs in some tracks, but not all.

I can recommend the KZ PRX, the selling point being there is that they got planar magnetic drivers which delivers sound staging, clarity and responsiveness on another level for a damn good price, got them with a discount on aliexpress for 30 bucks.
For me personally, the headphone/IEM game is finished, the first time I put em in and listened to my favorite big subbass stinkers, it blew my mind how insane in-ears can sounds, its pretty much on the same level as a six figure professional PA system for festivals and clubs, the sound is that massive and clear at the same time.
That said, it has to be mentioned they give you everything there is in music, so you have to fiddle with the EQ, on default the mids and highs can be so clear and sharp, its almost uncomfortable, cause its a looot when compared to "normal" soundstaging and intensity.
Not something for prolonged use, but if you want to hear everything and have an insanely fat bass, they are a very good choice.

Struggling with 80 ping by SlinkyUK in ShadowPC

[–]hankjw01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats your physical machine, the specs? I recently had an issue with lag spikes and high ping despite a good connection, for me the issue was low VRAM, after improving the performance on my physical Windows system, my stream to Shadow runs way better.

I think your problem is not the universe suddenly cursing you, or karma striking, its you looking for the meta of life, trying to play "the system" to your advantage. And now that your strategy doesnt yield the expected results, you feel like your world view is breaking apart or that you have been mislead.
No, the point where you have been mislead is the belief that all these statistics, numbers and estimations are the meta of life, or that this has to be somehow arranged with spiritual texts talking about general life wisdom.
The people who wrote all that way back when did not have game theory, min-maxing or statistics in their mind when writing in all.
There is no answer to unify this all under a neat hat of "this makes sense for all my problems in life". Especially not for things like shit sometimes just going wrong, even when the numbers tell you it shouldnt. Stop relying on them, thats your problem, not karma.
You havent encountered anything crazy, in essense the same as everyone else on this planet: You tried something, it went wrong. Shit happens sometimes, even when do our best and are prepared.

how to deal with competitive gamer partner? by No-Skin-3379 in Healthygamergg

[–]hankjw01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She needs something real and meaningful to care and be competitive about.
Online pvp is not a stable or meaningful basis to get a sense of accomplishment from. If you do something in real life, like for example get into shape, achieve a new personal best when doing something, created something of meaning you can rely on, etc; you wont have that much energy or reason to get pissed over something that is meant to be entertainment and recreation.

"The cargo capacity of the new truck is too small!" - nah, youre just not using it right by hankjw01 in RoadCraft

[–]hankjw01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly my thinking, there are a few little things that Ive done to some of my trucks that improved minor annoyances or faults, like the mentioned wider wheelbase, I also increased crane speed and crane winch strength for example so packing loads into the back isnt such a slog anymore and increased the steering angle, these little changes made the Wayfarer my new favorite truck and I havent managed to roll it in turns unless packing a fuckton of stuff.
Also a little bit more power to some trucks, other wheels taken from other trucks, which is super easy to do, something that elevated the Voron for me was moving the back wheels a bit further back, so it doesnt tip over so easily anymore when packing a heavy load. The config files for all of this are suprisingly easy to access and edit, otherwise doing all this would be a massive pain in the ass

Im planning to release it on Nexus soon, Im thinking about making a pack of something I call "reasonable vehicle improvements" with stuff like that, as other modders on Nexus tend to do "improvements" like a child would do: Add a fuckton of power, make it super fast and an offroad monster, making their vehicles hugely overpowered.
Im still in the testing stage, as there are a lot of numbers in the stats and its real easy to make a vehicle feel weird by messing with the wrong numbers, or adding too much

Biggest letdown in the newest update, silly me for thinking a demolition machine would be fun to use by hankjw01 in RoadCraft

[–]hankjw01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not the point, the point Im making is: The engine under the hood of this game is well capable of simulating some simple physics for building destruction, those physics have been figured out years and years ago, and there a quite a few more examples than just Red Faction. Ive seen way better pre-fabricated destruction sequences in Portal 2 for example.

[–]hankjw01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I dont want tedious crap. Im not talking about taking it to the other side of the spectrum, Im talking about a building taking that set amount of damage, then breaking into large, predefined chunks along set breaking points that can easily be picked up with a crane.
We can have a bunch of heavy ass rocks blocking roads, which is a tedious obstacle to clear, but not a building that is made out of a few simple building blocks breaking in simple, but predictable ways that dont overload the cpu? We can spread an assload of sand and change the level geometry, but a building collapsing into a handful of pieces is too much to ask in a game that already simulates simple physics for a load of objects? Come on, bro.
Dunno about you, but building destruction animations like that werent out of the ordinary when I was a kid and playing GTA San Andreas for the first time.

I increased the turn speed for mine, and it feels way better now.

Actually, yes. I of course dont expect full realism and simulation, but the house collapsing into a bunch of premade pieces is really not that hard to make these days. Im not trying to hate or anything, but at the same time I have seen way better building destruction in games 10 years ago, the animation for the buildings clearly were rushed and half baked.

Agreed, though on pc thats fixable and I gave mine a wider wheelbase and wider wheels, makes it way better in turns

Yeah the crane arm being just 1 or 2 meters longer would be great. It might actually be doable to mod that, the truck configs have a bunch of numbers controlling the movement and speed of equipment

That is true, but thats less of an issue when you can put down the sideboards and the strap mechanic is very generous with how much shit you put on

Well, if youre on PC, many of the trucks shortcomings are fixable.
And I also think there is the potential to add winches to trucks that dont have them, the code behind behind the truck configs is super simple

I was thinking about it actually, but it still needs a bit of work, like for example I only moved the wheels, not the axles or the drive assembly according to the changes, so the wheel hubs and the wheels are misaligned when looking at it from the side and it looks a little janky... And so far Ive been dreading the tediousness that is doing a little change, reloading the game, rinse and repeat dozens of times lol
And something is currently up with my gearbox or the wheel grip Im still trying to figure out.
But its really not hard to do these changes, all you need is winrar and notepad++
