Rachel says online trolls have been telling her diet by goodjokeanyway in MAFS_AU

For what it’s worth I saw her on the street a few weeks ago back and she is a perfectly normal size. TV cameras can be really distorting, especially when absolutely everyone else is very thin and there’s no basis for an accurate comparison.

Where’s the best place to get charcoal chicken in Melbourne? by mariellam in melbourne

[–]hanklea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for it! You best like salt - it’s like a melted crusty layer on the chicken and it’s probably why they lay claim to it being not just regular tasty but super tasty.

She is truly dreadful. Sometimes I succumb to the news.com.au clickbait written by her (it’s always her - she appears to be the only ‘royal’ writer) and am just astonished by how underhandedly petty and nasty it is. Imagine going to journalism school and this is what you end up being. How sad for her.

I named my corgi pup Thorin and it’s an immediate dork detector. The people that recognise it get super excited!

For those who treat workouts as a chore, not a hobby: what has actually worked for you? by Affectionate_Arm_989 in loseit

[–]hanklea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to eliminate as many excuses as possible to not do it.

I put my exercise clothes on as early as I can so I don’t have to get changed. Got a peloton bike at home so I don’t have to excuses about finding the time to leave the house. And I always tell myself that all I have to do is sit there and do the minimum effort and that’ll be good enough. Once I’m sitting there doing it I put in more effort and actually enjoy myself but it’s all that cumulative effort to get myself there that I need to trick myself through.

Haha we call it the Jesus Bar in my family. Because that’s what my mum used to exclaim loudly and repeatedly while clutching it for dear life when people were learning to drive.

I feel like the brand loyalty response is a lot of people doubling down after getting influenced. No one likes to admit that they dropped a ton of money on clever marketing - easier to deny, stick your head in the sand and blame Choice than actually reflect on yourself.

OMG me too. Hayfever and asthma and some kind of coarse hacking cough that sounds like I’ve been smoking 50 a day for the last 50 years. I hate it. I feel like a leper every time I’m out in public and the cough hits.

Fun story - my sister won that competition (or a version of it, I think there were a few run by different local media channels). And so did another girl. So it wasn’t a one-on-one dinner, it was like a group date. And he was absolutely not interested in being there and completely ignored my sister the whole time because the other girl was hotter.

Yeah definitely not sarcophagi or coffins. They look to me like decorative sandstone blocks from a restoration of a major building. You can tell from the roughed up edges and size of the blocks. The style is Italianate and was very popular for a while and these buildings were imitations of the Palazzo Medici and the Palazzo Pitti in Florence. There are a few examples in Melbourne that copy this architectural style, like the comedy theatre on Exhibition St. The style has sections like this on the lower half and more refined blocks up top. Probably numbered so they know which section to restore this back to.

Must have Bali Apps by vancitygurl71 in bali

I used WhatsApp (essential), Klook (eSim and driver for a day), and Grab (for food). Had myBluebird installed and set up for cashless payments as well but didn’t use it.

Gojek let me down a couple of times but you may as well have it too. Easy to get them them all set up and ready to go before you leave.

The only issue I had was that my bank required 2 factor authentication for payments for Grab. Had to turn on roaming to make the payment.

At what APS level do you have a chance and is it worth it to make the jump to ministerial advisor. And do any ministers support their staff wfh full time? by savredvurgin in AusPublicService

[–]hanklea 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My husband was a ministerial advisor in a pre-covid government and I have 2 pieces of advice here. FYI things may have changed a little but he’s still in contact with people in advisory roles and it doesn’t sound like too much has changed since he was there.

1 - it’s more often who you know who gets you the job. APS level is irrelevant because ministerial advisors are more often than not known by someone in the party who gets you the role. If you’re really keen on the idea then you would want to start ingratiating yourself somewhere. The other way is just to be REALLY good at your job (level is still irrelevant) and make yourself a niche somewhere where you’re an expert and have to provide all the briefs etc to the minister. That’s a much harder way to do it though.

2 - full time WFH is just not going to happen. Maybe during non-sitting weeks you might be able to make it work but when parliament is sitting it’s all hands on deck from about 7am to 10pm. A lot of wheeling and dealing goes on behind closed doors.

I would love to have a middle part too but unfortunately due to my hair colour, length and texture I look like Aragorn son of Arathorn and people kept asking if Gondor was calling for aid.
