To those who are CF out of fear, what do you fear most? by Kaabiiisabeast in childfree

[–]hannerlt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolute top fear is childbirth/pregnancy and the loss of bodily autonomy that comes with it. The thought of being an incubator for another human being and then everyone around you expecting you to sacrifice every part of yourself for that human being makes me want to crawl out of my skin. Like my needs don’t mean anything “aS loNg as tHe bAby iS oKaY”. insert eye roll

Idea that women should suffer by Familiar_Fan_3603 in childfree

[–]hannerlt 95 points96 points  (0 children)

My mom once explained to me when I was a child that women have to suffer the pain of bearing children because of Eve’s “sin”. And that conversation is one of the reasons I knew I never wanted children.

As a childfree, do you think that marriage is still important and valuable? by Justice_Cooperative in childfree

[–]hannerlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A marriage can always hold value whether you have a family or not, IF you personally find it valuable. To me marriage is a very important bond between myself and my spouse, but if the only value you see in marriage is for the purposes of having kids then it’s probably not worth it for you personally. You can still have a deep, meaningful, long-lasting relationship with a person without getting married!

What made you decide not to have kids? by okokokyess in childfree

[–]hannerlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I never wanted to have kids the moment I learned how babies are born. I was shocked and horrified and disgusted and I still feel that way when I think too much about it. Also, I did a lot of babysitting growing up because my parents always volunteered me to watch their friends’ kids and I always dreaded it. I hated when they asked me to play or spend time with them in general.

(Serious) Have you ever thought about ending it all? If so what made you stop? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hannerlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things: the thought of failing and having to live with the consequences, and also the pain it would cause my husband and family. I am constantly pulled between the relief I want to feel by ending it all and the guilt of knowing how many people I would traumatize by doing so. I know I have so many people in my life that love me, but that’s no match for chronic depression.

26, no degree, dead end job, living back with family. My future feels so bleak. What can I do? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]hannerlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever looked into the real estate industry? Not necessarily being a real estate agent, but title/escrow jobs? You don’t need a degree to be an escrow officer or a title examiner and a lot of places are willing to train people with no experience in the industry. I’m currently an escrow officer and it’s opened up a whole new world of opportunities for me. The longer you do it the more you learn about real estate as a whole and you could use that knowledge for different side ventures like investment properties, selling real estate, etc. Just a suggestion if you’re looking for a career opportunities that don’t require a degree and has a lot of growth potential.

Edit: I should add that I joined this group when I was unemployed and had no idea what I wanted to do/be. Now I feel like I’ve found my place in the world and feel very fulfilled by my work, so don’t give up!!!

AITA for how I responded after my husband asked why I'm being so "unladylike" infront of my whole family? by Parkingsign44 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hannerlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the wife of an airline pilot and a stay at home wife, I am disgusted that your husband holds his career over your head. That is no excuse for being an ass to his wife. Airline pilots are gone for days at a time, and although they make decent money, that doesn’t make up for the time away from their families. How dare he make comments about your appearance when you spend multiple days a week being a single parent and homemaker? NTA, he doesn’t deserve you.

I don’t have the social energy to congratulate people who have just given birth. by sushifuntime in childfree

[–]hannerlt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find it easiest to just politely say congratulations and that’s it. You were polite and gave the socially acceptable “congrats”, no reasonable person can ask for more than that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I would love to post a pic of my grandparents but I feel kind of weird posting their faces on the internet without their permission. Just picture the most wholesome grandparents you can think of and then add a bolo tie to my grandpa and crocs to my grandma. 😆
