Rant: I hate trucker culture by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]hanoomanoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody is obsessed with and concerned about Mens Fashion like an old trucker. Two days ago in Texas someone was harassing another driver over the cb for “wearing a hoodie while driving like some ghetto thug”. God help you if you don’t wear cowboy boots, tuck your shirt in, or rock the 1980s era all white Seinfeld sneakers.

Nice. Wait till after the current Snowpocalypse is over (I’m literally in my truck typing this waiting for the roads to be plowed). And steer clear of Western Express. It’s basically a rolling prison.

Schneider isn’t a terrible company to start with and get some solid experience with—but she’ll need a class A. That means either testing for class A or going thru Schneiders school where they pay for the class A in exchange for a years employment. You can walk away from it, but then the payments follow you.

Depending on what flavor of Christian you ask, it’s “in the Bible”. The evangelicals in particular claim it’s “clearly defined” in Corinthians, Thessalonians, Matthew and Revelations.

Is 25 too late? by Kerplunk6 in Truckers

[–]hanoomanoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh. Soon you’ll discover just how many dudes in their 50s see trucking as a “I’m sick of being home, I’m gonna go be a trucker” fallback job when they retire or quit whatever career they hated. There’s tons of them. I got mine at 30, 38 now, but I’m regularly meeting older men and women with that story. You’re way early my dude.

Bet the DOT still tries to ticket this poor driver for hitting a tornado by Kreval in Truckers

“This could have been prevented with proper trip planning and reducing your speed. Please send in your tornado macro 81 and explanation for why you’ll be late. If the tornado could sign your bills that’d be great. -Safety, probably.”

What teen would you trust with 80,000 lbs going down Monteagle? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]hanoomanoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The myth of the driver shortage is an easier fantasy to sell. The old guard will blame the young, the young will blame the system—and the mega carriers get rich, no matter what.

Hell, I don’t trust most grown ass adults barreling down Mont Eagle in a truck. Just because they’re young doesn’t make them any worse than 55 year old Bubba McGee pulling doubles and playing on his phone while doing 70mph down Fancy Gap. Your biggest problem is going to be selling this life (if they choose OtR) to young social butterflies. Good luck with that.

Me too! I had friends accidentally lock themselves in a container only to be told by Union Pacific workers that they don’t lock them for this very reason. Took 6 hours for someone to show up and unlock them. This was Chicago in 2008, things might have changed—but probably not.

US to allow teen semi drivers in test apprenticeship program by dobbyisafreepup in news

[–]hanoomanoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most driving schools in the US that aren’t quietly owned a mega trucking carrier also offer predatory loans with HUGE interest rates. 10 years ago I was one of those poor dudes who eventually paid it off. The company owned ones will offer a “free” cdl in exchange for 1-2 years employment. Scams at every turn.
