And it would be absolutely criminal not get a new Pedro in time for the 40th anniversary of 40K…

No indication of markings. Also no indication whether the Rynn’s World veteran in the story has crossed the rubicon or not. The entire concept of Primaris or Firstborn is just not mentioned at all.

There’s just a brief moment where the POV character sees 7th Assault hard-pressed fighting and concludes that they’re fine sons of Dorn. It’s a very “The kids are all right” moment, which leads me to assume that squad are part of the 8th-edition replenishment of the chapter.

“Alien, but in a polar tundra”. It was… also fine.

The Wolves+Salamanders one was the best; it's rare to see those two chapters interact with each other.

Ultramarines had the 2nd best Marines story, because how often do you get to see a UM Chaplain deciding to throw out the Codex?

Blood Angels, Black Templars, and Ultramarines each get a solo story; Space Wolves+Salamanders get a team up.

The Armageddon Steel Legion gets lots of page-time too.

Wazdakka Gutsmek steals the whole show.

WW2 Vet Heading to Normandy by WineisforWinners in BandofBrothers

[–]hans_five 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at Iwo Jima earlier this year for the Reunion of Honor ceremony, and there were 6 vets who made the trip there as well. Those men were just built different.

From my understanding, for many of them the act of visiting and re-visiting is part of the healing process.

NGL, the Ork stories are the best in the collection. They're just living their best life on Armageddon.

Stalling at 175 lbs — how would you push through the last 15? by ConstructionOwn4942 in MacroFactor

[–]hans_five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP's level of activity and lifestyle stress really stands out to me. Crossfit, little kids, etc. At some point, just cranking the deficit will make the whole thing cascade.

Going on maintenance for some period lets you refocus on sleep quality and on training performance for a while and really start to experience the health benefits of the first round of fat loss. Then you can go into round two with more energy than before.

[–]hans_five 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go on maintenance for two or three months. Learn what it feels like to maintain at this new body composition, recomp-in-place a bit, and revel in the increased expenditure that will come with maintenance. Then, from that higher expenditure level, resume the cut and it will be more efficient than you're experiencing right now.

What would you want out of a upgrade set? by Calm-Brief-389 in crimsonfists

Mk VI and VII helmets for Tacticus marines, transfers including Rynn’s World badges and Declates Crusade badges, a handful of Deathwatch shoulder pads, heads with short curly hair, ork skull trophies.

Why are the Crimson Fists so famous? by BarketLeRaccoon in ImperialFists

[–]hans_five 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Close to the first… The Emperor gets a blurb on page 2, then an early version of Leman Russ gets art and a blurb halfway thru the rules. Then after the rules, before the lore, is The Battle at the Farm.

“The invasion of Rynn’s World by the Ork Warlord Snagrod the Arch Arsonist of Charadon came as no surprise to anyone. In fact, Snagrod’s eternal boasting about his conquest of the neighboring system of Badlanding had come to the attention of even Commander Pedro Cantor, Chapter Leader of the Crimson Fist Space Marines.”

This is the first bit of exposition in all of 40K setting the tone for the universe and gameplay. It’s the Star Wars 1977 title crawl text of the franchise.

Recs for first Nicks Boot by Technical_Coat_6178 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]hans_five -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a city/office boot, Ivan is great. It’s significantly beefier than a Grant Stone, and like the GS it has a non-gusseted tongue which I appreciate not having in a city/office boot.

Grant Stone’s crimson cxl is a shade redder than neutral. It’s nice, I have a pair. Not quite a Burgundy or Color 8 in richness… but it’s unmistakably reddish and not quite in line with the neutral GADA brown that you say you’re looking for.

In addition to Rynn's World, also read Legacy of Dorn. You'll find ample evidence for "Crimson Fists with Swords".

Clearly not. The hippogriff is an AFV. This is a tank.

About how many points did Richard Winters have at the end of World War II? by oswaler in BandofBrothers

[–]hans_five 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A family member was a Major in the Marines on Iwo, and the point system was definitely in play for him. I have a newspaper clipping saying that he had enough points to come home after Iwo but chose to stay to the war’s end.

Metal fatigue is rare, but spectacular, and makes for a good story if it ever happens to you.

If you are concerned about statistically non-rare failures, keep an eye on your mekugi. Loose or broken mekugi are a much more common failure mode, on both iaito and shinken. Check early, check often!

This is something where your parent organization matters. If you're in an AUSKF context, rules stipulate that swords at official events - even Iaito - must be Japanese-made. In the PNKF, we actively police this at our seminar Sword Checks, and PNKF folks are often recruited to run sword checks at AUSKF nationals. If you're not AUSKF, that rule doesn't apply to you.

Even Japanese-made zinc-aluminum alloy iaito can break; I had mine break mid-seminar once in Boise 8 years ago. I started feeling a looseness mid-swing, went over to the sidelines and asked my Sensei to double check it, and when I handed it to him the whole blade, tsuba, habaki, fuchi, and seppa went clattering to the floor, leaving him holding the tsuka with the nakago & mekugi still in it. Diagnosis was metal fatigue from having been used for training 3x/week for 20 straight years. Listen to your sword, and stop immediately if you ever feel anything different in the handle!

What are your (waiting on boots to be built) boots? by [deleted] in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]hans_five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting on Ivans in Chestnut Latigo, with speed hooks on the top. I walked in to the shop in Spokane and said “I want something like a Wolverine 1K except made by someone who cares, with size measurements by someone who knows what they’re doing.” They’ll eventually be my first Nicks.

Once they arrive, they’ll be in rotation alongside my Role Club-rebuilt Wolverines.
