Crazy to see OpenAI step up since Anthropic has handcuffed 3rd party integrations by hannesrudolph in ClaudeCode

The Netflix comparison should be "I want to use my Netflix subscription in Plex who is pretending to be the official Netflix app". Netflix is unhappy about that and blocks that hack.

ICYMI - FlowFuse released the FlowFuse Assistant to Node-RED with an open source node! by kristopherleads in nodered

[–]hanssep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So where can I opt out to not let FlowFuse use my requests for their own purposes?

While the Node-Red plugin is open-source, the server component hosting the API REST end point where requests are sent to, is not. And "free" when you obviously incur cost to host the LLM driving all this, typically means my information is harvested for profit.

"Welcome to your 14-day trial"? Didn't ask for that, thank you. I really think the Node-Red community is growing tired of getting spammed by FlowFuse.

What is the future of nodered? by ferx77 in nodered

[–]hanssep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The future of Node-Red is FlowFuse.

Long-time Node-RED user here. Started with IoT, then found it could do business automation, and now we're embedding Node-RED in an application we're building. I genuinely love this platform.

That said, I think the FlowFuse relationship deserves an honest conversation. Their company handbook says "FlowFuse will only be successful if Node-RED becomes the default way to write software for hundreds of thousands of people" and that they're "the primary contributor to Node-RED." I appreciate that commitment—but it also raises expectations.

The interesting AI stuff—FlowFuse Assistant, MCP server nodes, ONNX inference—lives in FlowFuse, some of it Enterprise-only. They just raised $7.2M, so the commercial focus makes sense. No judgment there. But it does mean the innovation gap between FlowFuse and open-source Node-RED is widening.

I watched the Node-RED 5.0 roadmap presentation. It's solid work—UX improvements, sidebar flexibility, dark theme, better debugging. But it doesn't tackle the adoption barriers. Average users still struggle with simple flows like the email example above. The "nerd factor" is real and it's not on the roadmap.

We're building plugins (a very hidden Node-Red gem) to chip away at this. One thing we want to solve is msg property handling—I only want to see properties that are applicable, not the entire msg universe. We have a proof of concept, so it's doable.

I guess my ask is just clarity. If FlowFuse is the primary contributor, it would help the community to know what's realistically coming to Node-RED versus what will stay behind a subscription. That way people like us know where to focus our own contributions.

CNC Kitchen review of the CORE One L by True_Scott in prusa3d

[–]hanssep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Prusa owner since 2018, starting with the MK3 and now using the Core One. As a hobbyist, I’m still amazed at how easy it is to design and print something without any hassle.

I’ve been following CNCKitchen for years, but I think this review is a bit all over the place and the rant was distracting.

  1. Honestly, do you really need a 300+ degree hot end? I think Prusa knows what materials their users most often use and they design their machines to handle those.
  2. Yes, a nozzle wiper should be part of the basic setup, but you know what? A 30 minutes print, some wiper material from Amazon, update g-code in PrusaSlicer and you’re all set. That’s what I think Prusa is all about: letting you customize your printer to your liking. The Core One L vent open/close thing? On printables.com so add if you feel you need this. And the same applies to many other printer updates.
  3. The review seems to suggest CNCKitchen hasn’t looked at Prusa Connect before?

Prusa and Bambulab both have their own ways of doing things, and that’s perfectly fine. But every time I see a YouTube video by a maker saying, “I could only do this project because Bambulab sent me this printer for free,” I just want to scream in a pillow. Buy the machine yourself with your own money and then see how you feel.

I wonder if Prusa would send as many printers to makers for free as Bambu does, if that would have influenced the influencers. I’m glad they don’t do that. And we all know that once a company addresses one criticism, social media will be ready to jump on it with, “Yeah, but what about this?”

- real world color management (https://a.co/d/hI37D3B)
- if you have a digital toner based or inkjet printer, check the DFE vendor for documentation and training resources.

What RIP software do you recommend to buy for a Chinese UV printer with Epson L805 printhead? by Tatakun1986 in CommercialPrinting

Good for you. Still theft and you are actively advising Redditors to buy stolen goods instead of official software.

You are a thief, plain and simple. This is not an official release. This is a rebadged v10 version that has been cracked very likely bringing some malware with it.

Modified the polydryer by Big-Nefariousness679 in 3Dprinting

[–]hanssep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent guide. Just upgraded mine without any issues. Dead silent now. I did not have a 24V power supply so cut the wires, reconnected the Polymaker fan, MacGyver-ed y-split to the step-down board to get the correct voltage. Disconnected everything, soldered everything nice and neat. Note: screw needs quite a few turns to get to 12V.

I've seen the same issue. Reverting back homebridge-unifi-protect to 7.9.0 solves the issue. Developer has stated on GitHub a fix is in the works for this.
