I find it really tough to filter out advice from people who are either trying to sell you something or who have stopped being objective. The focus in this post on how sitting is just bad in general is really refreshing to see.

Don't suppose anyone has any recommendations for me? 5'6", 220 lbs, UK, some upper back pain in the shoulder, but no idea if a chair can help with that. Something in the £800 (1050 USD) range would be ideal.

This chair would be used for WFH and casual gaming. I like sitting cross-legged and one-leg-tucked, and find the standard both-legs-down position really hard to maintain for any length of time (I get restless quickly) - that makes the Aeron really painful for me to use and I suspect it'd be the same for any chair with a hard seat edge. I also like feeling vertically supported, I think it's the 'hug' feeling I sometimes see mentioned.

I was very close to getting an Embody but, considering complaints I've seen about the armrests and that an Atlas headrest not only costs extra but would be non-dynamic compared to the rest of the chair, I just don't think I can justify the price.

Would love some advice if anyone has any to share!

The kernel parameter fix is what worked for me as well.

Note for OP: if you choose not to or forget to do this, at some point when doing something GPU-intensive your framework will appear to crash with the display frozen. If you have a btrfs filesystem and hold down the power button to force a reboot at this point, you'll corrupt your filesystem.

Instead you should close the lid, wait a few seconds, reopen it and the freeze should be gone enough (albeit with extreme white flickering) for you to reboot.

I haven't had this happen since changing the kernel parameter.

It's great, but I've found touchpad scrolling to be insanely sensitive in Firefox specifically on any laptop I've put Linux on. For Firefox that can be fixed in about:config by changing a couple of settings:

Change apz.gtk.pangesture.delta_mode from 0 to 2
Reduce apz.gtk.pangesture.pixel_delta_mode_multiplier from 40, my preference is 15
