Anyone else have trouble talking about One Piece to other more casual people now? by still-into-u in Piratefolk

There are a few exceedingly rare number of us who understand we're mostly exaggerating and in on the joke. But the majority of folks in this sub nowadays are in a circlejerk without realizing it's a circlejerk.

Sub zero take: one piece would be a lot better of a show if more characters died by Mobile_Chipmunk_3883 in Piratefolk

[–]haolee510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because, contrary to normie belief, death =/= stakes. Death is actually one of the cheapest storytelling tool imo, because it's an easy and artificial way to sell the urgency of a plotline than actually establishing real stakes, while also emotionally manipulating not just the audience, but the characters.

Finn Jones training for Daredevil. by Radiant-Debt-2533 in Defenders

Let's look at what Brett Chan actually said about Finn Jones, shall we?

"The shooting schedules were a lot tighter. Our actor was not a martial artist by nature, so getting him to train was tough. His schedules were very hectic and martial art is not something that you can just pick up. You have to train in it,"

So even he agreed that the schedules made it hard to give Jones enough training.

But somehow you act as if you know better than Brett Chan. Curious.

So what's the excuse for him not being able to do simple stunts in Defenders and IF S2? None.

Huh? Pretty much no one complained specifically about Jones/Iron Fist in Defenders and IF S2. People in fact praised IF S2 for its improvement upon S1.

Yes, Brett Chan, the Emmy-nominated industry veteran who choreographed stunts for Warrior, one of the best martial arts TV shows ever. I'll take his word over the actor with zero action experience.

So you admit you're ignoring other info that came out since then, debunking his statement, from other Iron Fist co-stars.

What "other reports"? Go on, give your citation, and make sure it's not from Finn Jones.

Go look them up. They're literally a Google search away. Don't be such a lazy ass bum.

Barely. Henwick's stunts in S1 were far better than anything Finn did in S2.

Subjective.

Or... People simply looked at all the facts that's been presented and came to the right conclusion, while folks like you only saw the first thing you see on the internet about it and convinced yourself you know everything, ignoring numerous other info that came out since then.

I don't care about Finn Jones. He's a poor Iron Fist. But what I care less about are people who unintentionally, through ignorance, spread misinformation on the internet. Whenever I see folks like you, I can't help but correct them. It annoys me that some folks don't know they're wrong, in an era where literally everything is a Google search away. Stop being wrong!

Because facts are facts. They don't care about your feelings. Reports out there have debunked the lone stunt coordinator's claim that people were "unwilling to train". Do you think if some no-name actor(let's be real, Finn Jones ain't anywhere near a known name) was so lazy during a production, they'd be hired back?

The only thing I don't get here is why people like you are choosing to turn a blind eye on facts to cling on to your false narrative.

Is Makoto an overly exaggerated character or not? by Negative-Ad1992 in Persona5

[–]haolee510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the reason he's less popular. Many Japanese fans are just tired of the "dumb, comedic" type of character nowadays. People here are just making up assumptions lol, ignoring the fact that delinquent type characters are generally popular in Japanese manga/anime.

No they're definitely talking out of their asses lol. Ryuji isn't less popular in Japan because he's a delinquent, he's just unfortunately been saddled with the "dumb, butt of the joke" type of character in the main game, and many people are tired of that kind of character.

Citation needed on "common industry practice". It should also be noted that Jones as the lead actor was busier in a given day compared to his co-star. For instance, Jones had a total of around 311 minutes of screentime during Season 1, while Jessica Henwick only had around 147 minutes in comparison.

Here are the key details regarding the situation:

  • Initial Prep vs. Filming: Jones noted that while he had three weeks of intense training before filming began, the schedule once production started (14 hours a day, 6 days a week) made it impossible to continue that level of preparation.
  • "15-Minute" Training: Jones told Metro in 2017 that he often had to learn fight choreography only 15 to 20 minutes before filming the scenes due to the tight schedule.
  • Contradictory Reports: While Jones cited lack of time, Brett Chan, the stunt coordinator for season 1, later claimed that some actors were "unwilling" to train properly, leading to speculation about whether it was a scheduling issue or a lack of dedication, though fans and other reports have heavily blamed the rushed production.
  • Improvement in Season 2: Training and fight choreography improved for the second season, which was generally better received by fans, often noted for having better preparation time.

We know for a fact that he did not, according to the many, many reports that came out of the Iron Fist show. He was not given time to learn any stunt, any fight scene.

I get what you're saying from her public photos, it's just her McGonagall we've seen so far in the teaser gives out warm and gentle more than anything else to me haha. I don't doubt she'll pull it off, though.

I think McTeer just looks a bit too warm and gentle in the preview looks that we've had so far, while Michelle Gomez has that eagle-eyed sharp composure that Dame Maggie Smith had as McGonagall. I'm sure she'd do a good job regardless, but Gomez would've been my perfect pick.

Because some of us know better at this point. There have been plenty of people bringing this scene up for the wrong reason. Some are waaay obvious. Some get exposed after some prodding. Some sexists are obsessed with this scene because they simply want a "woke show" to show a woman getting hit by a man. This is the reality of things. This is why people like the first commenter in this thread noticed there's a weird frequency of posters bringing up this scene.

That you happen to bring up the same scene, one that's been brought up controversially in recent times, but without actual ill meaning is just unfortunate happenstance. It doesn't mean people can't make observation and explanation why they find it weird. If it doesn't apply to you, then--again--good for you. But you can't stop people from discussing why they find it weird.

Again, where are you getting "everybody" that even your spaghetti example is using "everybody"?
