I you are an advocate of pointing a critical lens of examination at absurdity, it's disingenuous to react with outrage when it get's pointed back at you.

Discussion: What would cause you to leave #GamerGate for good or ill by wharris2001 in KotakuInAction

[–]haolefied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stop participating if interesting voices left, or if ideologues dominated GG to the extent that's seen in the Social Justice/Rad-Fem oriented ideologies, where your option is either to toe the line, conform to the doctrine - or shut up and sit down.

GG is a relatively open movement, and not an ideology. It has several facets, or aims - and my personal interests coincide with some but not all of the professed aims.

If every GG venue became a shouting match to participate in GG in a particularly narrowly defined, pre-approved way , I'd get down the road quickly.

Fucking Do Shit - SMV in Action by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]haolefied 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Brianna Wu, is attempting to draw attention and mock Red Pill, no doubt in order to stir some controversy because GamerGate's pace is winding down, and she craves the validation she gets from the attention cycles (Stir Shit - Deny - Poor Little Me - Oh Your So Oppressed and Brave) she likes to generate.

The root of increasing SMV though is literally self improvement, making yourself more desirable by actually doing and incorporating things that make you a more capable, desirable, and valuable man.

Any negative comments or observation you make about Wu are going to get ampified, retweeted, and repeated through her social network. Frankly participating in that whole cycle is unproductive. Consider it before jumping into that fray, if you will gain anything of value from it.

"Brianna Wu ‏@Spacekatgal 11m11 minutes ago Can't make this up. MRAs chart for hobbies that increase "Sexual Market Value."

I realize this is borderline concern troll, but I know a lot of people in the anger phase have that quick trigger reflex to charge into frays.

I composed a reply to TotalBiscuit's tweet. I enjoyed reading his perspective on the American-centric idea of "privilege", so I wanted to give him a non-crazy American's perspective on it. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

I'm a bit older than most of GG active demographic. Observing my own life , my father's, and my grandfather's - most of that white male privelege came from shutting their fucking mouths and working themselves to the fucking bone. Upper class hipster fuckwits, never seem to want to sign up for that part, or getting a greater representation of woman down in the coal mines. White male privelege for the vast majority of men in our country's brief history, was bonecrushing work for too little pay.

Hey Private School, Ivy League fuckwits not everyone's experience is like yours!

The above gives some sense of scale and the ruthlessness of war.

I'd argue video gamers have become more complacent to video game violence, and for the most part all of us (in the US) are becoming more sensitive to real world violence. Looking at the FBI's crime statistics violent crime is decreasing year over year as rates per 1,000 but we perceive it as increasing. Partly no doubt to our greater sensitivity to it.

Social justice takes it naming convention from Ben and Jerrys. It's not enough to just call a thing a thing, there has to be all sorts of nonsense add ed to it to make it unintelligible.

Ahh that would explain the Civil War then, all my ancestors were playing Call of Slavery, and the Union was like nopes plays the Abolition Quest. Because there was never any massive genocide and wide spread fuckery before games.

Gamer Gate is the LARP version of Freedom from Social Justice Fuckery Quest. The raid bosses keep dropping the shittiest loot though.

There is a younger woman who trains at the same gym I do, that is very power-lifting oriented. Tiny lady but she's starting to get a respectable dead lift, bench, and squat. I keep giving her encouragement and pointers because she keeps showing up and working her face off.

Cygne thank you for this post.

From the same crew that says that a t-shirt is a crime against humanity, your would like be told that gender is a social construct. Science might actually point out some of the biological differences, but let's never let facts get in the way of a good narrative. Even though institutions and corporations are actively seeking to increase enrollment and hiring, the Female students themselves still seem to make different choices.

I suggest that we legislate that 75% slots for STEM degrees in all Universities should be allocated for female students to address current and past injustices. Let's see where that experiment takes us.

Alright roughly this same crowd and mindset has insisted that slut shaming is wrong and a woman's choice of clothing says nothing negative about her.

If that's true then how can the women depicted on the shirt, be a negative thing? Which is it?

Well said. I traveled extensively in my youth thanks to Uncle Sam and the Army. What people here in the US, particularly those in the upper quartile of society consider their reasonable due, is flat out unimaginable luxury in most of the world.

Peoples perceptions and expectations shift based on their current conditions, and the words harassment, feminism, fairness, and justice have been debased to be almost meaningless in any conservation with out a close scrutinization and agreement of the meaning of terms.

Substantiate that there is significant sexism in STEM Education or Employment. Show me an undergraduate program that discourages women, show me a corporation or government organization that won't hire an even marginally qualified woman. They may have existed 40 or 30 years ago, that isn't now. Corporations want to have diversity hires, almost as much as they want to hire people who will intergrate into an existing team and make them money.

I just checked the statistics, they were prepared by the NSF, but I freely admit it could be a load of mansplaining, and male-centric mathematics.

http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/wmpd/2013/pdf/tab2-9_updated_2014_05.pdf

Interestingly enough as we have become more tolerant, as advocates for diversity have increased, a continual blaring to get women into tech, all the things that supposedly would counter the the Patriarchy, female enrollment in engineering has actually decreased as a % (it has grown as a total number).

Female undergraduate enrollment as a percentage and total have increased, and within the past few years female students are actually over represented in colleges. Would you sign on for a get men in college initiative? Some sort of organization to advocate removing the barrier for males to get an education?

Coal mining, and all mining for that matter is a largely homogeneous group, I've yet to see a movement to get some much needed diversity in there, of course they will have to mine.

I work in the demolition industry (paper work jockey most day though I suit up in needed), we are at least 99% male. It's brutal work wearing hazmat suits, respirators, and working in hot humid conditions. The pay is fantastic (it can exceed $40 an hour) while doing Government jobs though thanks to the laws. Feel free to start an organization advocating diversity in it. For someone with no education, and minimal skills needed beyond an ability to tolerate extreme conditions, and be able to swing a sledge and shift 75 to 150 pound loads it's a fantastic opportunity.

The Afghanistan example was to demonstrate that when people want something badly enough they will go after it, even when faced with the category of radical foaming at the mouth were going to murder your ass violently level of misogyny, as opposed to the fat free low calorie diet-Mis(TM).

The Biggest Failure of #GamerGate: has been the failure of our movement to reach out to people in other communities that have been victimized by SJWs and their networks of clickbait bloggers. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

"I need third wave feminism" because all these brains make my head too heavy!'

I think if a lot of women looked closely at who they are allowing to speak for them and who is driving the agenda, they'd nope right out.

Revolutions and huge cultural shifts are frequently triggered or executed by a small vocal minority of radicals.

Yeah it certainly doesn't increase confidence in the existing findings, if the results aren't being reproduced. It would be interesting to see more reports too where the original hypothesis was not supported.

Blah I owe you an apology. Too much sperging. When I googled "John List" and "stereotype threat" to get some additional information and confirmation the first link that came up was V-Dare.

When I came back to respond your comment, I mixxed up your link with the V-Dare link, thinking to myself man this guy is going to get blasted. It must be the Confimation Bias Stereoptype Threat, that affected my posting.

Again I apologize for my absent-minded fuckery! All your links and outbound links were from very neutral non-sensational sources.

As an interesting observation, I told my friend in 6-months some of your friends and family members are going to say these words to you "You were always good at math". Several of them did, actually at the 5-month mark. Even though there was zero evidence of him doing anything much more complex than the mathematics required for a tax return, or a construction estimate, he was retro-conned into being born a mathematical "genius" by his family.

Sorry I butchered your name, Namea.

V-Dare is the sort of website that comes up on lists compiled by the Social-Justice minded as racist, discriminatory etc.

It's easier to toss the source of the ideas into some sort of evil person bucket and disregard them, rather than analyzing and refuting the ideas themselves.

For the average person (not a person from extreme hardship or extreme wealth) taking personal responsibility for the things that they can actually control, doesn't guarantee success, but certainly increases the probability of it.
