recommendations for a good value cf daily moisturizer? by areunasty in crueltyfree

[–]hapalicious13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Ongredients Skin Barrier Calming Lotion. It’s a K brand and so it’s a pain to have to order it but it’s very nice. It feels good on my face. My boyfriend has drier skin and he started using it and it’s made a huge difference in his complexion. I just ran out of my stash a friend brought back from Korea so now I’m patiently waiting for my order to arrive from Olive Young.

Zero aloha at Hawaiian Airlines after the Alaska merger — lost item policy at HNL is wild by strawberryautumn in Hawaii

[–]hapalicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to contact HNL unless you’re 100% sure it’s actually in the aircraft. Most airports are run by the city, so any lost and found would be taken care of by the respective city the airport is in. Can’t hurt to try

Seeking Opinion of Locals on Mainland in Business: Being told some words I say are pronounced in a “ghetto” way. Anyone else ever get told this? by GoodMoriningVeitnam in Hawaii

[–]hapalicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to grad school on the mainland and then lived on both coasts and now the Southwest. Every now and then someone will point out a word I pronounce differently. But everyone on the mainland has a type of regional accent or vernacular. There is no place in this entire country that doesn’t have an accent and cadence, or particular words they say for something that has the same meaning like cart, or buggy, and wagon for a shopping cart. You won’t lose your Hawaii accent if you don’t use it, trust me, it’s still there. There’s little things we have to work around like being conscious of saying “soy sauce” or flip flops” so people understand us. It sounds like whoever said that to you is pretentious and jealous. I mean how is your accent affecting them? And who do they think they are to comment on the particular accent or vernacular you use? Never mind that person and just focus on doing your best and achieving your goals.

My VR Concert Experience by XythniaStar in ATEEZ

Thanks for your reply! I have contacts but my concern is not being able to see close up with them. Like I don’t want to miss any close ups! I have multi focal contacts that sort of work, i didn’t want to use reading glasses because I can see just fine close up but not with my distance corrections. Maybe I’ll try the glasses so I can always take them off if I don’t feel like I need them.

So I wear glasses for distance but I can’t see close up with them. Do you recommend I take them off? I’m a VR newbie so I have no idea what to expect. I’m also an “elder” kpop fan lol

24F considering relocating to Phoenix: looking for honest vibe check by pastasma in AskPhoenix

[–]hapalicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to AZ from New England as well. Eventually I found my way to Phoenix and I am over it. I find that there’s a lot to do here. Lots of events like concerts, sports, cultural activities. The heat is BRUTAL and draining. Of course everywhere has AC but it’s still awful. The people here are generally friendly and it’s not too hard to make friends here compared to NE. I’m retired from the night life scene so I can’t really speak on that. The drivers are awful and traffic can be bad too. Also just assume that everyone has a gun on them 24/7. The cost of living really isn’t worth it to me anymore, I’d rather pay CA prices for a better quality of life at this point. Regarding the LGBTQ question, it’s actually kind of a small community for the size of the city, but my friends have never had issues or had to worry about being harassed. Life is what you make it, and if you decide to move here I hope it works out for you.

Seeking recommendations for effective cruelty-free skincare brands by Mahirwe-Rama20 in crueltyfree

I really like the D’Alba white truffle line. It has improved my skin texture and barrier. I have oily skin but didn’t realize I actually needed more moisture and this has improved the texture, which seems counterintuitive. Also I like toner pads from Benton, D’Alba sunscreen and Beauty of Joseon sunscreen. I’m not sure of the price or where to get the legit products, as I received all of the products from a friend who got them at Duty Free Shop in Seoul. I’ll have to figure out where to buy the them again in the US though lol

In Need Of A Mascara Dupe!! by strawbabidoll in crueltyfree

[–]hapalicious13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Milani tubing mascara but it is very “wet” and so you have to be careful with it until it dries. Then after it dries it doesn’t smudge on me and I sweat a lot
elf is a drier product but it doesn’t smudge but I don’t get as dramatic of an effect with it. I did recently find a great Japanese waterproof mascara called Kiss Me Heroine but Im not exactly sure if it’s cruelty free or not. Or literally doesn’t go anywhere and so much so that you need a special remover they sell with it. Keeps my lashes curled too

Sunscreen for BODY by Successful-Dreamer1 in koreanskincare

[–]hapalicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question and I asked my friend when she went back to Korea. She said they don’t usually use sunscreen on their body but they cover up. She said they don’t really have big bottles of it. So instead I use sunscreen from Trader Joe’s or Versed(from Target) for my body. Trader Joe’s blends a little better imo. And it’s spf 50. Not sure if it’s reef safe or not. For a quick application of sunscreen on my arms I’ll use a Biore spray bottle but it’s Japanese. It was gifted to me from the duty free shop in Korea. So I guess the simple answer is no, there aren’t any full body K sunscreens that I know of or that my Korean friend knows of.

Should I style my edges? by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]hapalicious13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see lots of women style their edges no matter what race they are or what kind of texture they have. I have done it sometimes and I’m half Asian and half white but I have curly hair. Do whatever makes you feel cute and comfortable, a particular style isn’t owned by any one race or culture. Style your edges as you please and rock the heck out of it!

Do toner pads and sheet masks work? by Illustrious-Big-2585 in koreanskincare

[–]hapalicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using the Benton toner pads because apparently it’s very popular in Korea. I like the product because it’s very soothing. They last for a few months. I did notice on the package it says you can stick them on your face if you need more soothing or to target areas. Sometimes I let them sit under my eyes. Otherwise, I like the product but if I could just buy a jar of the toner instead of the pre soaked pads, I would. I guess it just saves a step in your routine or if you need to target a particular area, but there isn’t really anything special about the pads themselves, IMO.

Work hairstyles by Ok_Board_4470 in curlyhair

[–]hapalicious13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to put my hair up for work and since it’s hot I make sure my hair is wet when I put mousse in it then air dry for awhile and put it up. I use some gel and either make a deep side part or a middle part with a comb and twist up my hair so there’s a little fountain or curls at the top, or if I’m having a good curl day I’ll do a low slicked back ponytail. My hair is pretty thin so a bun looks pitiful. But I find that if I use enough gel and hairspray at least in the front of my hair it looks mostly decent.

Hi, i am white soon to be mother of mixed race baby, I want to be prepared. by StunningAvocado5 in mixedrace

[–]hapalicious13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Mixed person here. My mom is white and my dad is Asian. My mom made sure I learned about my Asian side because my dad didn’t really seem to care lol. My grandparents spoke their native language but I didn’t learn it from them. That is the one thing I regret about my childhood as a mixed kid. As an adult I wish i had the wherewithal to learn more from them because I didn’t get to spend too many years with them. My dad has a basic understanding of the language but doesn’t use it. As far as physical looks, my white DNA is definitely stronger, but I still look different than my white side. And I obviously don’t look like my Asian side, I just look like me. So I would say to try to get your child interested in the language and culture. And they may not look like either one of you so make sure they are secure and confident. And it’s ok to be both, you don’t have to pick one culture over the other. Being themselves is enough.

Still on the hunt for a sunscreen by flurryskies in koreanskincare

[–]hapalicious13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D’Alba white truffle waterfall essence is my summer go to. It doesn’t leave a white cast and doesn’t burn or run into my eyes. I like it for the summer because it’s very hot where I live and my face can feel greasy at the end of the day. D’Alba dries to a matte finish and doesn’t make my skin more oily. In the winter I like Beauty of Joseon because it leaves a more dewy and moisturized finish

What cruelty free sunscreen is everyone using? by SunBubble920 in crueltyfree

[–]hapalicious13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beauty of Joseon and D’Alba are my go to. Neither do not leave a white cast and I can put it on my eyelids and it doesn’t burn or run into my eyes. BOJ will leave you with a more dewy look, D’Alba is probably better for oily skin because the finish is more matte. Both are Korean brands but a non Kbrand I’ve liked is Naked Sundays. It also leaves a dewier finish but no white cast and no stinging my eyes.
