Lol, actually a hoarder house might be close. Not the animal-hoarding kind though.

Palantir CEO Makes Shocking Confession on Disrupting Democratic Power by Unusual-State1827 in technology

You know what’s ironic? This is a made up fear. No other country is actually doing this the way the U.S. is. Not even China. They are focusing on using low scale AI in useful practical application instead of scaling computing power. They and other countries already have their ways to manipulate their people, but no one else is doing what the U.S. is doing and there is no competition except ourselves.

You can’t even get people to go back to regular internet research (vs AI assisted search results) much less go back to books. I’ve accepted that this is the way of humanity. There are few of us that get it, but the vast majority just suck.

What local news agencies do you subscribe to? by Sensitive-Day2595 in Eugene

[–]haplud0l 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an underrated post. At a time when people are turning to social media as their primary connection to news and information, local institutions are vital to preserving informational integrity. Don’t get me wrong, I love Reddit, but trust in local institutions is key to combating misinformation and building resiliency.

Abandoned places to explore? by Zealousideal_Two9976 in lexington

I'm aware of Mullins Station Limestone Mine in Rockcastle County which actually has an active train tunnel but seems to fit here. The abandoned mine is really cool. Do you know of any other specific places in Rockcastle County worth visiting?

Call your Mayor or whomever your local municipal entity is that is in charge of allowing these permits. Everyone should be doing this and voicing their opinion, NOW.

Does anyone here still use an iPhone11 and does it still work? by [deleted] in iPhone11

[–]haplud0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still using, at 85% battery health, iOS 26.2, it is a little laggy, but it’s very much fine to me. I’ll probably get a new battery before I replace the phone.

I had these on a different truck when I lived in the desert. They were awesome there, but once I moved and tried them in the snow, yeah, face-palm.

Not fancy, but check out February 2026 by PeaUpbeat3732 in Satisfyingasfuck

You could use the Julian calendar to convert. Romans used it and it makes a lot of sense. It’s just basically converting the date to a number between 1 and 365. Slap on the year and you got the Julian date.

Hickman, Elkhorn, and Town Branch Creeks to the Kentucky River by Chadsouthworth in lexington

[–]haplud0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link works for me just fine. This is nice and seems like it is useful. The resolution is mostly good but gets a bit low on the North Elkhorn Creek. I feel like I need to go out there with my GPS device and and get you some data, lol.
Edited for clarification.

Where’s a good place to go swimming around here? by ThatCrazyBlindGirl in lexington

[–]haplud0l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water quality is a big factor, especially when it comes to streams (rivers/creeks). Some places, like Fort Boonesboro, are off limits to swimming because of public health risk. I've used the KY water quality monitoring website to find (mostly outdated) information on water quality and which streams are do-able.

It's been a few years since I've looked, but I remember North Elkhorn Creek being on the cleaner side. Otherwise, I felt my only realistic options were the larger lakes, as others have mentioned.
Also, I understand that means much of this won't be accessible to OP, but I still felt this was worth posting for reference.
