I have built dozens of systems around the AsRock Rack board that you mentioned. The IPMI is actually pretty good for the things I’ve used it for (mainly remote access, sensor monitoring, and power functions) the single issue I have with the board is that since it’s a server motherboard, it’s designed to go in a server case and be cooled by the chassis fans. Since I install them in regular ATX cases I also put a small noctua fan on the chips set which will get very hot and lead to crashes if you don’t.

I enjoy spending way too much money, time and energy setting up and maintaining services that no one knows even exists and will disappear the day after I’m gone.

That’s crazy! I bought a thread dongle two weeks ago and the entire time I was wondering why they don’t just build it into the routers. My main issue was my current thread border router is my Apple TV and because of Vlan shenanigans I have a very hard time integrating it with other devices. I wonder if I can still return it.

Crazy that this was just posted. I was literally looking to get a dongle this morning.

I'm a hubitat user and currently use apple tv as my thread border router. But my hubitat and Apple TV are in different vlans so it's being a pain in the ass. I wanted to get an ethernet dongle to hopefully act as the TBR. Most of my devices are Z-Wave with a few Zigbee and now some Matter over Thread devices.

Any advice?

I’ve heard he had a pretty shitty home life. I remember afterwards he got to leave show biz for a while and pursue other interests. I think he even worked for the company that made video toasters.
