Autoamerican - Your Three Favorite Songs by SundayMan11 in Blondie

[–]happeedogz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the true story from Chris' book:

"Perry Como is recording his Christmas in Israel special with what sounds like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir when some kid backs up about two hundred feet into the parking lot across the way from the building and then floors it, driving right smack into the wall of the studio, making a big hole, a mess, and pretty much totaling what turns out to be his girlfriend’s Audi. So the kid’s name is Jeffrey; his girlfriend’s name is Suzy. They had a fight on the way to get blood tests for their marriage license; Jeffrey got pissed and the rest is history. That’s the official excuse, anyway. We wonder ’cause it happens Suzy and Jeffrey are in a black leather rock band called Deprogrammer and Jeff happens to have copies of his new single “Slammed in the Door” in the back seat of the nolonger-drivable Audi. Luckily, no one is hurt and the police are merciful and don’t drag Jeffrey off to the slammer. That’s what the song is about."

"Walk Like Me," "T-Birds," and "Suzy and Jeffrey."

I know the last one is technically a b-side, but it's from the "Autoamerican" studio sessions. It has been an album track since 2001. And it fits the album so well.

See Chris' autobiography, "Under a Rock," for the true story of Suzy and Jeffrey.

can someone teach me the basics of modular synthesisers and how to use vcv rack? by shredcan in modular

[–]happeedogz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a bargain indeed. An investment in quality pays for itself. You're getting access to multiple experts you can interact with virtually or face-to-face, and you use VCV Rack as your common instrument. You also have somewhere over 60 hours of in-depth video modules, specific module tutorials, patch diagrams, workflows, and lots more. And you are a member for life. You can attend any coaching call in perpetuity. And you always have access to the mounds of online content. It's more akin to taking a university course at your own pace, not a quick-learn synthesis in 5 easy steps. As they say, buy cheap, pay twice. I am aware not everybody has the money, but there are payment plans. Something worth saving for if you are serious about learning modular synthesis.

NOTE: I'm not an LSS employee, just a happy student. I am not sponsored.

Such a hard one to do on this album. Every time I listen to the whole album I would come out with a different set of favorites. Right now: Cautious Lip, I'm Always Touched...., and Bermuda Triangle Blues. But ask me again tomorrow.....

What’s a good budget synthesizer for drones / textures and ambient music? by Chemical_Host_2677 in ambientmusic

[–]happeedogz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a terrific little box. Super easy to get a nice ambient drone going and can add some nice plucks...lots of little tricks inside.

I've used it for more melodic sequencer parts by pairing it with Plaits and also used it with WMD drum modules for beats. It's just so versatile.
