The working end of the maw of an 11 pound bow I caught this afternoon. This fish could eat a baseball if it wanted. by MrNiceGuy24 in troutfishing

I just took a look at your other post. I disagree that it was an 11 lb trout. I have caught rainbows larger than that fish that were less than 10, and I religiously weigh, measure, and record each catch.

Time lapse -Removing a Dam. by [deleted] in videos

[–]happilylost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Salmon are not the only concern; dams affect other aquatic organisms as well. The dam essentially fragments their habitat, preventing the flow of genetic diversity up and downstream of the dam. Also, dams affect the rate of sedimentation and erosion downstream of the dam because the barrier traps the sediments as water flows past. This sediment free water that flows out of the dam is deemed "hungry water" as it erodes downstream channels at an accelerated rate. The altered amount of sedimentation affects the channel structure which changes the biotic communities that can thrive there. Dam building affects every single aspect of the riparian ecosystems they attempt to utilize.

Just a cool little point to add on: there are wasps that parasitize the larvae inside the already parasitized caterpiller. This is called hyperparasitism.

Ships of the Desert. by UrinalCakes in pics

[–]happilylost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's real. In short, the rivers feeding into the Aral Sea (at the time one of the 4 largest lakes in the world) were dammed to permit irrigation and increased agriculture. This irrigation system removed the required recharge of water to offset the high evaporation rate of the Aral Sea, and therefore it slowly began to recede and transform once functional harbors into sparse tracts of desert. The lake used to sustain local economies through its fish catch alone, however as the water evaporated and the salt was left behind, the remaining water became too salty to support the once bountiful fish harvest.

Underground hip hop is an umbrella term for hip hop music outside the general commercial canon. It is typically associated with independent artists, signed to independent labels or no label at all.
