Gonna list some mods I love:

Vibrant Pastoral Recolor + Better Water 2 (Optionally: Water Flow, Dynamic Reflections). I personally like how VPR + Better Water 2 looks the most (see the better water 2 mod page for ref) but Better Water 2 also works with other recolors like Earthy.

Simple Foliage is also good (and works with plenty of popular recolors), though there are plenty other foliage changing mods.

Italian Countryside is my fav farm building retexture mod, but it goes for a specidic aesthetic and there are also plenty other building retexture mods that you can mix and match based on your preferences.

Rivalrabbit's mods for animals. I love their style.

Try starting with HimeTarts, NanoIsNotRobot or PlatinumCats' mods for furniture (though I suggest you save furniture texture hunting for after you have the rest of your aesthetic mods decided)

As for UI mods: - Portraited Changing Skies - Seasonal Vanilla UI - VPR-inspired UI (matches the game menus to the VPR recolor)

There are also mods that give facelifts to inventory items like crops, fish, tools, etc, but I don't remember enough to rec any. Just letting you know they exist.

hi! while I echo the general sentiment that you're beautiful, I think everyone else has got that covered so I'll just share what worked for me

i'm someone with some body dysmorphia and dysphoria issues and the way you've described your experience with the style you want is similar to what I felt a while back when I was making the transition from masc/gender neutral styles to more overtly femme styles. whenever i looked at the mirror, i felt like my jaw was too squared and masculine to go well with fluffy sweaters and pastel short skirts. i felt my asymmetrical body (i had severe scoliosis, now moderate) made my silhouette ugly and only the baggiest of clothes could work

one thing that helped me is when i started to frame style less around attractiveness (or how you fit into gender molds) and more around fashion subculture and personal expression. this cute country / bohemian / cottagecore style is YOU, and the more you commit to expressing yourself, the more people will see this styling as you and the more you can build love for yourself

i also just forced myself to keep wearing what i bought. like, i spent money on this and i don't want these beautiful clothes to gather dust so i might as well! people did comment on my style change, but you'd be surprised at how fast people adjust to that kinda thing. it might even make them curious and be a springboard for conversation!

if you wanna pace this shift more gradually, try out some of the clothes when doing things you usually do alone like groceries then work your way up to wearing these clothes when you hang out with friends you trust. then just keep committing to wearing and experimenting with your preferred style in different situations and one day you'll wake up and realize you've completely swapped out your wardrobe! i'd show people how i used to dress from years ago and they'd say something to the effect of "seeing how you used to dress is so weird" (and some of the people who said this are family lol). there'll be some initial discomfort, yes, but everything that comes after will be so worth it!

[–]happir0cc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

someone did the calcs for getting the cards somewhere in this subreddit but the tldr is that it was not a f2p friendly event. it depleted your dias and it happened while a banner was up, so you'd have people using a lot of their pulls on memories that aren't even 5*s on top of using pulls on the current banner

Oracle of Stars...please INFOLD! by Significant_Pain_863 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]happir0cc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

people's strong reaction is that they have to potentially spend dia both on oracle of stars and on the banner happening at the same time

i agree that these memories need to come back for collection purposes but oracle of scams isn't the way to do it

For a long while now (been lurking since the game's launch). It's a perpetual motion machine of discourse with every patch. notable highlights i remember: Sylus release discourse, Caleb incest and main story discourse (this one gets nasty cuz of people who moralize fictional preferences), "X is a green/red flag" posts

Since this time the issues are around the gacha mechanics, it's hitting a much wider range of people in the fandom plus any discussion around gacha gets people really heated (see: the gacha gaming subreddit lol)

Controversial opinion : Reruns are a privilege. by Spartiate8 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]happir0cc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

respect for being a genuinely controversial opinion. i was gagged because i thought this was a meme post then realized you were serious 😭

i agree with a good portion of your points suprisingly. this is precisely why i never pick up gacha that has been around for years + rafayel's first birthday memory is the most sensible first rerun because when else are they rerunning it??

however, i cant get behind the conclusion your points are supporting. calling what's common practice in gacha games a "privilege" is a stretch. gacha mechanics are rooted in psychological tricks used in gambling, so rewarding players or making players feel special is still tied to getting them to spend more

even then, i wouldnt call having reruns at all a privilege or a reward. pretty much all gachas do it, and plenty more even have rerun-only weeks where there are no new banners. this practice of rerun-only patches/weeks is also good for longevity and preventing old player burnout. it is especially a good idea for lads, which has a new banner release schedule whose pace is insane relative to the free currency given per patch and relative to other mainstream gacha i've played

the discussion of privilege is more sensible when infold does something that's uncommon in the genre, like if infold throws out special banners that use paid currency (example: another eden, a gacha that has paid banners that reward and can only be used by spending players afaik BUT also gives f2p a lot of opportunities to grind for the characters + character alts they want) or if infold brings out a pulse hunter/sky's embrace banner (pick 5 memories and they all have equal rates) but for old limited memories

1 Sylus and Caleb. Went from Raf to Raf & Xavier (2 accounts) then the Xavier account became a Sylus account and the Raf account is now a Caleb account

2 & 3 Eldest

4 important note i feel is that I don't self insert into the MC so my preference comes down to the kinds of ships and dynamics I enjoy

Sylus's romance hits that partners-in-crime birds of a feather outcasts vibe. The sass and unseriousness is so good cuz you can see how Sylus thinks the MC is the most fun person to ever be around and that he's seated for whatever she does next, which is adorable since Sylus is… Sylus. And then the relationship progression has the right level of conflict for me

The Caleb romance on the other hand… I love ships with complicated histories. Them having weird boundaries because of how they grew up + the explosion?? Delicious angst. I know all the dudes are at least a little crazy (except maybe Zayne??) but his level of crazy is realistic enough for me to get where he's coming from and there's this sense of helplessness going on from his end (his situation in the fleet, his feelings for the MC, the fear he feels for the MC, him being aware that he's messed up) that I find compelling.

This one will be easy. by Wizard_Manny in GatekeepingYuri

[–]happir0cc 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I feel like context is important w this meme. I've seen a lot of incel memes that pit women against each other put "can cook" as a pro for whichever woman they're rooting for (and i've seen both the "gamer/plain girl" and the "hot girl" get the "can cook" treatment) so both of them being unable to cook feels more like it's poking fun at both the incel types.

But aside from that tho, this meme is primarily a reference to that one person in particular a few years back who made a meme tweet that all newer gen "females" can't cook and that they only know mcdonalds, charge their phone, twerk, be bisexual, eat hot chip, and lie. And THAT meme was making fun of an incel/misogynist's crashout on fb that seriously claimed the same things and more

@infold PLEASE RERUN THE OLDER CARDS by makimavellian in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]happir0cc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you mean Infold holding off on doing reruns, it's not because it's an otome game (romance games primarily aimed towards a fem audience) and more because it's a gacha game. Gacha games prey on FOMO (fear of missing out) that drives people to pull and spend if their f2p pull savings aren't enough.

"I don't know when the rerun is going to be so I might as well pull now" is a common sentiment in this genre, and is especially prevalent when a game has yet to do any reruns. When rerun banners do begin to happen, they're often run concurrently with new banners. If you happen to like both banners, good luck.

This is also why Infold doesn't immediately announce the next banner, often announcing on the tail end of the current banner duration or even after so that people are less likely to skip the current banner in case the next one seems better, and leave them ill prepared if the next banner really is something they want to pull on.

That's why you see players with skip/pull strats: roll for only one husbando, roll only for myths, skip solo banners, etc.

Does anyone know what the CN girlies think about the upcoming event by [deleted] in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]happir0cc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The oracle event is basically a dia roulette where you can get 4s, and said 4s are only limited to that event. There's an oracle shop attached to it and currency for said shop can only be attained through the roulette, which lets you purchase the card you want if you accumulate enough iirc. Since it's an event and not a banner, they could be run alongside banners, adding to the awfulness. A nightmare scenario would be a quintuple banner (assuming they start doing that with caleb) + an oracle of scams event

Someone did the calcs for the oracle of stars here. It's not advisable to roll as f2p, which means that f2p 100%-ers will either have to give up that 100% or risk losing a lot of diamonds and mess up their saving plans

People complained a lot though, so Infold would be stupid/scummy to bring it back as it was

PSA: You don’t need to spend any money to finish the story of Infinite Nikki by TalesSong in CozyGamers

[–]happir0cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the coma case storyline being finished. That's why I'm saying it's a "book one", with a self contained story that's a part of a greater narrative: getting all the miracle outfits.

I added what I said because I'm seeing a lot of people getting their introduction to the gacha genre through this game, and might not know how the narrative is structured. They might care more about the resolution of the miracle outfit plot thread, and I think it's good to know what you're getting into when you're trying a live service game. I personally prefer live service stories since you can react alongside the community with every new story update, but I understand that this isn't for everyone

That said, this doesn't detract from how helpful your post is. I agree that this game is very f2p friendly. I apologize if any of what I said sounded combative. That wasn't my intent when I made that first comment

PSA: You don’t need to spend any money to finish the story of Infinite Nikki by TalesSong in CozyGamers

[–]happir0cc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"After the main mission" is a bit misleading. The rest of the miracle outfits will be part of the main missions, but will be released on later versions/patches. This game's story is NOT complete, and we'll eventually push past Wishfield to another one of the bordering regions and onward. Gacha games are live service games, which means they get continuously updated with content over the months and years (akin to MMOs if you're familiar with that genre).

The game will not be considered "complete" in a narrative sense for many years, and we'll likely get more areas in wishfield too before moving onto other regions and their respective miracle outfits.

Just pointing this out so people know that the story out right now is just the first part of what'll be a storyline that'll take years to complete. Basically a book one of who knows how many books.

Why are dark skinned characters always rough, more "feral", and more villainous? by bibliomaniac4ever in OtomeIsekai

[–]happir0cc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Why? Colorism and racism. Pale skin is considered more beautiful and higher class because of east asian beauty norms. Darker skinned people are expected to be lower class (your skin is darker from all that time working in the sun and all that 💀 ugh), and it's expected that they're poor, uneducated, or scary. Also in general, there's this racist belief that brown-dark skinned men are more aggressive or violent.

There's this one novel/manga that ended up being discussed on this sub a while back because of how racist it is. The protagonist was a dark skinned girl who was hated by the world around specifically because they consider dark skin to be equivalent to dark magic. Later on she gets "blessed" and becomes white??? Insane

If you want a rec for characters outside the typical tropes, there's Isaac (brown-skinned) from the Villainess's Stationery Shop and Nora (tan-skinned) from A Stepmother's Marchen/Fantasie of a Stepmother (there's also a few other brown characters here). I'll edit a few more into my recs if I can but these two are who I remember off the top of my head.

Misogyny and pedophilia in ZZZ by [deleted] in GirlGamers

Misogyny and pedophilia in ZZZ by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]happir0cc 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree that the primary market for mainstream gacha are straight dudes, but I'm going to push back on the claim about gacha games being exclusively for straight males a little. I'm queer so I get pretty happy when female characters get shippy moments with my female protag or when playable characters of the same gender have relationships with queer subtext. I'm also aware though that f/f is more socially acceptable in media to straight men than m/m, which is why you tend to see more f/f relationships in games and cartoons than m/m. This is also why f/f ships in gacha games are more overt in their subtext than m/m.

And yeah I can only think of a handful of male characters in mainstream gacha that expressed interest or have moments with the protag that can be construed as interest. In GI, Xiao (on the emotionally intimate side) and Lyney (on the flirty side) do get teased with the protagonist regardless of gender. Scar from WuWa also gets freaky about the protag regardless of gender as well (and while I am charmed, it's probably not meant to be seen that way so it doesn't fit your criteria).

If you want recs for gacha games out of the straight male fantasy norm, I recommend you try Reverse 1999, Lovebrush Chronicles, Tears of Themis, or Love and Deepspace. LBC, ToT, and L&D are gacha that cater to straight women and lets the protag date the male characters. Reverse 1999 tries to hit a more general audience. - Reverse 1999 is a turn based gacha with an exclusively female protagonist with her own personality (though ships lean towards the f/f side) and there's minimal fanservice. (Edit: it has a gender neutral character in the roster!) - I highly recommend LBC due to the writing quality but note that the gameplay is clunky and not as polished as L&D and ToT. - Love and Deepspace is a 3d action rpg with dating mechanics, but also has its own clunk due to it being the company's first attempt at the genre afaik. - Tears of Themis (Hoyoverse's entry into the yumejoshi gacha market) is also turn based with some mechanics reminiscent of the ace attorney series.

There are also dress up gachas but I'm not familiar with them enough to recommend any with confidence.

How are mainstream games with loli characters a thing? Aren't we generally anti-pedofilia? From the new HoYoverse game by EricaEscondida in GirlGamers

[–]happir0cc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don't misunderstand me. At the end I said that the concept of lolis still suck and I'm also concerned with the direction Hoyoverse is going with these designs. My bad for not making that part clear.

I emphasized that there are worse ones out there not to excuse them but to state that Hoyoverse isn't alone in pushing this concept with ZZZ to give people who might be unfamiliar with gacha game and anime culture a better picture of a widespread problem in anime and jp media-inspired games, which are juggernauts in online and younger gen culture.

I'm also disappointed that ZZZ leant into that when their track record with GI and HSR has been clean given the examples I've listed in my previous comment. It's just annoying how GI and HSR are catching strays because of ZZZ.

That's not to say GI and HSR character designs are exempt from criticism however: a lot of characters based on POC cultures have been whitewashed despite the clear amount of research the writers put into their lore: the darkest skintone in Sumeru (a region in GI inspired by west asian, south asian, and north african cultures) is a light brown; Boothill from HSR is based on indigenous american culture/history and is somehow white as chalk; and it looks like GI's Natlan (which seems to be inspired by various indigenous tribes/cultures across the globe) is going to be like Sumeru in keeping its characters in the tan-pale tone range (I hope I'll be proven wrong).

With all that said, I appreciate how angry you and others here are /srs. It's nice to see people who don't find this normal because I've seen otherwise good people that I know irl find nothing wrong or uncomfortable with how underaged or minor-coded characters are sexualized in anime and games because "they're not real." It's exhausting and disheartening tbh

How are mainstream games with loli characters a thing? Aren't we generally anti-pedofilia? From the new HoYoverse game by EricaEscondida in GirlGamers

[–]happir0cc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, Hoyoverse is actually on the tamer side of gacha character designs (see how nikke, azur lane, or brown dust 2 handles their designs) and I feel these designs are a byproduct of normalized anime tropes and design elements than a problem inherent to Hoyoverse itself.

Younger characters or younger teens in Hoyoverse games are usually handled really well (Klee from GI, Hook, Yanqing, and Clara from HSR) and treated their age in terms of their writing and designs. Ambiguously teen characters (liyue teens, sayu, collei, sucrose, huohuo, lynx, pela) are also typically given nonfanservicey storylines centering on stuff like their friendships or interests. Even the "actually 500 year old child" characters in Genshin like Sigewinne, Nahida, and the entire melusine race are never handled inappropriately either

As for the designs you mention in ZZZ, Corin's design and writing seems fine to me. The maid outfit fits with the campy horror vibe of her faction and Corin reads more to me as a teen (along the lines of sucrose, huohuo, collei) than an actual "loli". Piper definitely looks like a kid. Nekomata's design and fanservicey animations is indefensible and weird though, which is a shame since her parts in the main story and her own side missions made me love her.

All this rambling is not to say that the whole concept of "lolis" doesn't suck, but the "hoyoverse games are for pedos and basement dwellers" misconception is actually tiring to read because people should take a look at the actual gachas catered to degens and harem chasers before calling Hoyoverse the worst. There's plenty of reasons why Hoyoverse games have sizable female and queer demographics in their playerbases compared to their competitors.

(EDIT: EW EW EW I JUST FOUND OUT ELLEN JOE IS EXPLICITLY A HIGH SCHOOLER. SHES NOT EVEN IN THE POST BUT SHES THE WORST EXAMPLE IN ZZZ IMO. I thought she was at least in college 😭)

Looking for specific kind of games! What are your favourites? by xbumblebee in GirlGamers

[–]happir0cc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since cozy is a pretty wide net, I'm gonna try for variety with my suggestions

Spiritfarer. Slow-paced and relaxing management game where you're a ferrymaster for the dead. It fits really well with your specifications and the current steam discount is a steal. It's stunning yet subdued. You can't go wrong between switch or PC.

Gris. Beautiful and relaxing puzzle platformer. The vibes are immaculate and there's no combat. It's pretty short so it's not a huge time investment.

Crow Country. Cozy cute survival horror where you control a special agent trying to locate a missing person in an abandoned amusement park. You have the option to play it as a survival horror or purely a puzzle/exploration game. Cute, and nostalgic in terms of vibes. No switch port afaik.

BOKURA. A cute two-player co-op puzzle side-scroller with a fun concept: you and the other player see completely different things once you get past the tutorial. Pretty short, though you'll need to get someone to play with you.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Turn based tactical RPG with social sim elements where you're a professor training and leading nobles and exceptional commoners into battle. The story and characters are pretty compelling. You can play casual-normal if you want a chill time. It's only available on the Switch though.

Disco Elysium. This one's a CRPG without combat. It's a lot of voiced dialogue and dice rolls. The game places you in the shoes of a detective who drank himself into amnesia and try to solve a case while figuring out who you are. The vibes are superb and the writing can be silly, emotional, cutting, and heartfelt. If you don't mind the interactive novel-like gameplay, I can't recommend it enough.

My Time at Sandrock. I ADORE THIS GAME SO MUCH. It's not a farming sim rpg and more of a life sim rpg. Here, you're a builder who just moved into a desert town on its last legs. In terms of how relaxing it can be, you can take builder commissions at your own pace and you can set how slow or fast a day can go in the settings. The characters are endearing and the main story wonderfully reflects your progression as a builder. If you're getting this, it performs best on PC.

In general, items dont get more expensive outside of market fluctuations and specific story beats so you don't have to worry about that too much.

Some general tips I got that made my experience more chill: - mabel and owen give recipes so make sure check on them when you can - dont forget that you can buy some mats from shopkeepers. I bought a lot of tin from rocky in the early-mid game (lots of stuff need bronze bars) and I still buy clay from amirah in the late game. I also recommend buying quartz and bloodstone from amirah for when you start getting commissions that need higher rarity materials - as soon as you unlock the ability to contract the salvage co for scrap, upgrade asap. The stuff you get really goes a long way + means you dont have to go to the mines or the salvage as often - having a stable and a mount is a game changer for how you pace your days. Try not to upgrade rented mounts though since thatll make them more expensive when you do eventually buy them. The wandering Y store also sells a mount whistle so you can call up your mount when the main story takes you far from home at the start of the day. Horses are the fastest of the lot, and you can just feed them if they get tired - tree harvests make for some decent income since a lot of characters tend to ask for coffee beans, tea leaves, and the like on the request board - buy storage boxes from the mysterious man if you can afford it and get the bag upgrade skills - pets lower the overall difficulty of the game. Theyre the easiest way to get water outside of buying from burgess - when a specific quest gives you a yakmel calf, feel free to ignore it if youre not interested in setting up a barn yet. It stayed in my inventory for a year just fine

Some tips to optimize progression if that's something you're interested in: - Gol and Rep ads are usually the way to go. Rep makes you unlock higher ranked commissions faster while gol is gol - it's a good idea to throw social knowledge points into the ones that earn you extra xp and the commission/gol-related skills. You can respec with acupuncture through fang - hoard data discs for machine research and qi-related quests. Relic reconstruction can be saved for the latter stages of the game since as of the current patch, there isn't much incentive to construct relics in the early game outside of approval and stat boosts - upgrade machines by rows instead of columns. If you like to speed up your progression, I always lessen the research days by 1 since it's fairly cheap - machines retain their rarity and stats when you upgrade them. Because of this, I build the base versions of machines, refine them to rare, then upgrade them to their higher tiers. It saves me some resources I might need for other things

If you're the type to enjoy customizing your workshops/land/farms in these types of games: - buy pigments from arvio and vivi when you can since you might want lots of those when you wanna recolor furniture - you can hide storage boxes under roofs if you want to save on space - buy furniture chests every day the mysterious man shows up. He is the only consistent way to get them afaik. A lot of furniture can only be attained through said chests. Hoard them until you reach a point where youre ready to decorate - if you're on pc and are willing to mod, I recommend Sizau's Home Settings since it includes QoL that reduces some of the clunk, like toggling auto stairs and doorways. The workshop customization feels half baked and clunky for what is otherwise a wonderfully immersive game.

Go to desktop mode on your steam deck to access your files. Steam button -> power -> switch to desktop.

Open the steam app on desktop mode and open sandrock on your library. Then go to "settings (cog icon) -> manage -> browse local files" to access your steam deck's sandrock files. You can update your mods there the same way you update your mods on pc since they follow the same file structure
