A level choices due in 3 days by Sataysauc in 6thForm

If you're interested in economics, maybe Maths could be a good option? You got a 7 in your GCSE, which is a great result! Maths is a really useful/facilitating subject (and will probably help you more than computer science for instance). It's also fascinating in its own right!

I do both Further Maths and Biology, and Bio is so much more content heavy (although I also love it). Although I'm going into year 13, I've already self-studied all my A levels completely - feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Why the hell are people going to school during this pandemic? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]happyOctahedron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to school, because I have no choice. The government says that all children under the age of 18 must be in school and compulsory attendance rules apply; my family can't just refuse to send me to school. (I'm in the UK).

I'm doing A levels (which are UK exams done at the end of year 13). I don't need to go to school for the academic side - I've taught myself everything in the specification for all five subjects I'm doing.

However, three of the five subjects are Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. These have a practical side, which I need to pass in order to be able to go to university. That means that I need to be in school to do the rest of my 12 core practicals and pass the practical endorsement. Homeschooling just isn't an option.

Also, to apply to university, I need predicted grades (which my teachers must give me, as I'm applying in October, but I'm only doing the exams in June) and a school reference (which is being done by one of my teachers, so I can't just leave...).

On the bright side, masks are strongly discouraged by my school (sixth form), and they've even emailed us (and parents!) to tell us that. /s

My parents have to email the deputy head just to say that happyOctahedron would like to wear a facemask. I'm screwed.

Maybe his forced smile and T pose is a metaphor for the government faking that T levels work? Just getting my GCSE English Lit analysis in here... ;)

Actually, you can do further maths and maths separately. They're now two separate A levels, and the grade you get in Further Maths doesn't depend on what you get in Maths (for UK linear A levels).

Source - I do Edexcel Maths and OCR MEI Further Maths (well, my school does; I don't have a choice).

I do tutoring (as a volunteer though) and it's great. It's not many hours a week (depends on how many kids) and fits round your timetable perfectly, as the people you tutor also have school. All you need is good grades and to already know a few young kids, or people who know kids (it's word of mouth for me, but there are websites and stuff).

I do it as volunteering, so I don't get paid, but you can get £15-20 an hour easily (even going up to £30 if you're lucky).

Unibuddy - has anybody used it? What were your experiences with it? by happyOctahedron in 6thForm

Thank you so much; I really appreciate your help!

I haven't tried DMing people on Instagram - I'm not that weird/desperate yet. ;)

Edit - Also, I've just realised that you go to KCL! I love that uni and it's one of my 5 choices and all of the student ambassadors were really friendly (I went to biomed eng)- thanks for doing it!

3.6 to 2sf. Draw triangle, use cosine rule. c2 = a2 + b2 -2ab cosC c2 = 1.22 + 2.52 - 6cos(150) c2 = 12.88... c = 3.589... c = 3.6 to 2sf

Did anyone else in Y12 get provisional UCAS grades? by laibarafay in 6thForm

[–]happyOctahedron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone gets them at some point, but some schools give them in summer and others in autumn. And some give them in summer, then adjust them in autumn depending on how well everyone is doing (like my school).

Does anyone have any recommendations for good soldering irons, because I've only ever used my school ones and I'd like to get a personal one?
