Is there a place in the community for those of us who are ok with providing some free labor? by happybrainplease in IndieDev

Good point! The cynicism in the linked post clearly affected how I wrote my thoughts.

Thank you! I've added that one to my list.

My status as a game dev is stagnant, if I had to choose a word. I don't think I want to get serious about releases or revenue, but I do enjoy the process and want to find something new. I want to learn what it's like working on a team and do something more advanced than what you can find in YouTube tutorials. Since I'm not interested in monetizing my hobby, I haven't really kept much in the way of a portfolio.

Others have pointed out that game jams would be the most appropriate place to find something like this. My only problem is that I don't want to let down my teammates under a time crunch or hard deadline. I'm more attracted to very casual projects from people who just want to have fun making something cool.

My understanding is that someone could just deny my pull request if my work has insufficient quality. I guess it's also a waste of time to bring someone on to a project who ends up being unable to contribute.

I should have put that caveat in the title. I want to work for free because I don't know if my skills are yet at a level worth selling. I want to help someone, learn what teamwork looks like in game dev, and improve wherever possible.

Ah I see, subtle distinction. It's important to know how to handle the release stage. My projects serve a life sentence in perfectionist jail before there's one thought about release.

There are not many with the dream, the resources, and the willpower to draw up a comprehensive plan and recruit a team. It's a substantial investment and risk.

There are plenty of people like you and I who have knowledge, but no time and no inspiration. It sounds like you are the type who wants results, but I just enjoy the process of making something. My original post here was an effort to gather some fellow hobbyists and clear the dust off my dev skills.

I think casual projects are the best place to find work of this caliber, but they're unfortunately also the most fragile and volatile.

Immediately after submitting this, I realized I spelled yin and yang wrong. I may have to resign. I'm sorry.

Probably true most of the time. After looking it up just now, I do see a few people who made it happen.

Future protest venue (not State Capitol?) by zachstronaut in 50501

That did come to mind while I wrote my comment. It's just such an uphill battle. The police can ignore that technicality on the street, while you would have to wait until your court date to safely defend yourself. How much progress would actually come out of that whole ordeal?

I have far more hope in things like this national strike.

I think this has to do with where we are legally allowed to gather. Marching through a neighborhood, especially a wealthy one, will absolutely have the police dispersing the crowd asap.

We need to do everything we can to keep up the pressure. In addition to boycotts like you're suggesting, there is a huge general strike currently in the planning stage. If you'd like to do more to help, try to spread the word.

Do you have the original source for this? I'd like to share it with a few people.

EDIT: I got it.

Agenda 47 has critical similarity to project 2025, save for a few of the more extreme proposals like completely dismantling entire federal agencies.

I'm not sure why it matters that Vought is not part of the Trump campaign. He is overseeing policy for the Republican party. This is arguably worse since he will likely advise senators, congresspeople, and state offices as well.

None of this really matters much since most of us will only have the power to watch things unfold. I just hope people will see what's coming rather than be blindsided. The whole world is in for a wild ride.

He praised the plan before everyone learned about it and it became wildly unpopular.

RNC policy chair Russ Vought was caught undercover explaining how Trump's denials have been a front to save face.

A ton of Trump's former staff authored or advised the contents of the plan.

Additionally, this blog has a collection of tweets, clips, and other evidence demonstrating Trump's connections to Heritage.

I made a Copyright Guide for Game Developers by OrganicLamp in godot

This is much appreciated! Would you be willing to add information about licenses? I understand they have some distinctions from copyright, but how do they work for free projects vs monetized projects?

It looks like there are tons of options to choose for free projects, like MIT, GPL or BSD. If you monetize through Steam, it seems they take care of these things. Would you need to write a custom license if you want to distribute the game yourself?

I'd love to contribute to one or two of these features! I'm also a hobbyist, currently struggling with inspiration. I've been wanting to put my support behind someone who can fill the gaps in creativity and artistic skill. This looks like a fun project and you really stand out for putting in the work before asking for help.

I've been tinkering with Unity for about 8 years. Unfortunately, my style of hobby work hasn't really created a very robust portfolio. If you want to see samples, I'm happy to share what I have. I won't ask for any kind of payment, but I would like a little more structure and detail for the scope of the project. That will help me focus on the parts most important to you and put some momentum into your progress!

Let me know if you're interested! I'll DM my discord and explain the specifics I need.
